The Chosen (2017)
Wonderful series
This series is simply wonderful. SOmehow it keeps a balance between being true to the Gospels and dramatic impact. So vbery different from anything done before. It is difficult to praise it highly enough.
The Chosen: The Wedding Gift (2019)
Lovely
Jesus portrayed as a real live human enjoying the celebrations at a wedding, interacting with children, and a very special relationship with Mary his mother. Highly recommended.
The Chosen: Indescribable Compassion (2019)
Simply beautiful
The scene where Jesus heals the leper is beautiful. There in interplay between Matthew and Peter and the children which is very different from the norm, and the pharisees and the Romans make an appearance too.
The Chosen: Invitations (2019)
So moving
This episode is beyond moving. The climax of it, Jesus and Nicodemus meeting by night, is handled in a way that is bold and very different from the usual portrayal.
Stronger (2017)
Just a lot of foul language and drunk people strung together with a story
Distinctly unflattering portrayal of the family who are portrayed as drunks - I am amazed that they didn't complain. Foul language so frequent that I ended up feeling dirty for having watched it. Not even redeemed by a good portrayal of the story.
Rapture (2019)
very strange, not what it says on the tin
Sounded as if it should be a Christian take on Revelation but in fact it bears no resemblance to any interpretation of Revelation that any denomination has ever come up with. Might have been better with no religious element at all and just an "escape from the aliens" plot. With that, it would have been reasonably good. But this will just annoy those who it is supposed to be aimed at while putting off unbelievers who might otherwise have enjoyed it for what it is.
Churchill (2017)
Utter garbage
I am very glad that I only rented this and didn't buy it or see it in the cinema. Even so I begrudge the £4. Had it been free I would have turned it off in five minutes.
The acting is good. But historically this film is so far off the truth that it's impossible to see anything positive in it. I am baffled about why some people gave it a positive review.
Seriously, don't bother.
How to Survive (2009)
Too little information!
Basically a good film spoiled by two things: 1. you never find out why the plane did not arrive and 2. it is not clear what happens to one of the characters at the end. I also found myself wondering how on earth they carried all the food! The tension builds nicely however and it is certainly worth a watch.
