School of Life (2005)
One of the most beautiful and touching films I ever seen
It's a very entertaining comedy slash soul searching film. I cried through some of it. Ryan Reynolds plays a really hip teacher who really connects with his students and fellow teachers. He inspires them in a legendary way. There's an image of humanity, as it is and as it should be, that moved me so. The one big question Mr. D asks of his students is "how much time do we have?". The answer is not much. One learns that the little time that we have should be used to help others, to enlighten them, to have fun and share the knowledge to empower everyone, to make a better world for all. Hugely aspiring film. Good date film. Highly recommended for those who want to inspire. 9 out of 10 stars.
I, Frankenstein (2014)
OMG Outstanding
Throw out the old ideas of the original story. This is like Frankenstein meets the new Robocop. Frankensteins "monster" is a vigilante demon killer. Story starts out back in 1700's when the monster is first produced and extends to the modern day. The monster, as later called Adam, is in a constant fight with demons who want to destroy humanity and ultimately rule the world. A race of beings also known as gargoyles are trying to protect humans as they battle the demons as well. Eventually the gargoyles and Adam team up to try to destroy the demons, who are trying to unlock Frankensteins secrets to re-animate an army of corpses to take over the world. Aaron pulls it off, as the abomination, soulless, trying to find himself in this cruel world. This is the rockstar of the story of Frankensteins monster. Definitely will watch this one again real soon.
Project Almanac (2015)
Brilliant
What would you if you invented a time machine? Change history? Win the lotto? Fix all your lifes mistakes? The lead actor, Jonny Weston (as David Raskin), as the son of a brilliant scientist, who is a genius himself, discovers his fathers hidden secret works, the device that would eventually be turned into a time machine and makes it a reality. He teams up with his fellow classmates, who help him develop the machine. They test it, travelling as a group, back in time to lesser events in history, a few hours, then a few days, then on to years. Each return trip back to the present shows signs of an alternate future, mostly for good, but with a few bad things thrown in. After a few trips back solo, David changes the past and the present in radical ways he can no longer control. The present time events become so screwed up he has to go back in time, before his father disappears and destroy the machine that started this whole thing. It's all shot POV as if by a hand-held device, to give it that amateur shot live feel, as in a documentary (think Blair Witch Project). The story is brilliant and make you think. Superb acting by relative unknown actors. I will definitely watch this one again soon.
RED 2 (2013)
Red was awesome, Red 2 tops it off...
Both films take the bad-ass top secret hit-man genres off the grid, incorporating a feel for regular folks, in their regular lives, doing regular things, who happen to be top notch hit men, and adding a special flavor of comedy, to a new level. Plot twists galore. You expect one thing to happen in a scene and it doesn't. Adversaries become allies, good guys become bad guys, bad guys become good guys, the plot twists ya to death. Great writing here, and excellent acting, especially from Mary Louise Parker, unbelievably hot for a 51 year old woman lol. I will prolly watch this at least 10 times again. Ya gotta watch them in order from 1 to 2 to catch the humour bits.
1941 (1979)
This movie is so ridiculous it's funny. They don't make em like this anymore.
This movie is so ridiculous it's fun. Seen it many years ago, and it's still fun to watch, like Airplane, Cannonball Run and Blazing Saddles. They just don't make racy movies like this anymore, with exception to Django Unchained. It takes place just after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Californians are worried about an attack on the west coast by the Japanese. So everyone comes to arms to defend the West coast. Including local folk, the armed forces, and everyone inbetween. John Belushi is hilarious as the crazy fighter pilot who is tracking a Japanese fighter group who has supposedly set up a base in California. Dan Akroyd plays a devote army fighter uniting all the different service units to fight the enemy and not fight each other. There's a love story in there too. Lot's of chaos. Lot's of action. Lot's of funny, as peeps deal with the idea of Japan invading America. It's a fun film.
Ink (2009)
amazing film, one of the best I've seen in years
I was blown away. And I don't get blown away a lot. According to this storyline, there exists multiple universes, one verse there is humankind, in another verse, kinda like the other side, after we die, where our souls exist, there is the ones, supernatural beings, who control the first universe. They intertwine, and help to control the previous universe. Two factions divide the control, one who create positive dreams and one who create nightmares. They are at a constant conflict. Sorta good versus evil scenario. There's an underlining story about a man who is dealing with his own situation in this world. He's lost many things, mainly his real world life, and he comes to terms with it and gets his focus back eventually. Anyway, this film was well done and must see. I got choked up at the end.
Edge (2015)
Don't mind the first review...
This was a really good raw, nasty, and detailed idea of how the west really was. It is very gritty. I was moved by it's rawness. The characters were very believable. The gore was top notch. I don't understand why some reviewers gave it low ratings. If you like straight up nasty real life westerns, this is it. Watch it and judge for yourself. Easily an 8 outta 10. Im a a serious movie buff and wouldn't lie to you. It's a good old fashioned revenge western. Very well directed and amazing cast. I really hated the bad guys passionately. Got some good plot twists in there too. At times, can't tell who is good and who is bad. Watch it! But this ain't for the faint hearted. Some brutal scenes, nudity, lotsa gore, racism, cursing, etc. Like I said, 8 outta 10. Awesome movie.
The Last Man(s) on Earth (2012)
terrible B movie, but worth watching LOL
This has got to be the second best B movie I've seen. Worthy of a watch tho. It plays out like a high school movie project, cheesy storyline, waaay over acted drama scenes (which makes it really funny), bad special effects, and good plot twists. You'd be surprised who the real villain is. It has a comic book type of feel to it, with captions popping up here and there. I've seen a lot of award winning movies and this ain't it by far, but was really fun. Just a reminder, you gotta like cheese to watch this, and I'm a HUGE fan of cinema cheese, tho I appreciate good films. Give er a try, and giggle a lot. Like I said, it's terrible... but in a good way. LOL
Space Milkshake (2012)
Best "B" movie style sci-fi I've ever seen
I like cheese, the kind you eat, and in movies too. This is one of the best B movie sci-fis i've seen since Spaceballs and Ice Pirates. I think they did it on purpose, because Amanda Tapping was involved and she's high up in my book of quality actresses and producers. It's clever and funny and well worth the watch. The characters are believable and develop well. Kristin Kreuk's character image, after a good plot twist, was awesome, I won't mention that as don't want to give away that. The special effects were fairly decent and the props were very well done, except the space suits, which could have used some work. Adding George Takei was the topping on the cake. He was the cream cheese topping on the cheese LOL. Overall, I gave it a 9. And that's pretty high for a B movie style. Haven't given a 9 for a B movie since The 24th Reich. I'm pretty picky on ratings. I was LOL through the whole thing. Watch it and you'll see. Oh, and don't get the title wrong, sounds like a typical B movie, but titles are just the cover of a good book. Sometimes. Before I wrote this this movie had a 7.2, which is very good in my standards. Watch it, you won't waste your time.
3 Days to Kill (2014)
Luc Besson nails it again!
Throw out your typical spy/cleaner genres. Luc portrays Costners character as a loving dad who gets caught up in the job as being a cleaner for the CIA and thus leaves his family life behind. But he returns to them and rebuilds his old family life. Step by delicate step, he gains his wife and daughter back. All the while doing his job. And trying to battle a terminal illness which only gives him a few months to live. I got choked up 4 times to tears. It has a few cheesy bits and the nicknames for the bad guys are terrible LOL. But excellent watch overall. Oh, and Amber Heard was a serious bad b*tch and super sexy too LOL.
Seventh Son (2014)
critics can be cruel...
I don't understand how some critics can be so cruel. This movie was effen excellent. Great acting, great plot, great special effects, really shows the the division in ideals about witchcraft. Some think witchcraft is evil (actually most) and some think it's good, bad or a mixture of both, depends on your perspective of things. I'm a practicing witch, and I get it. Most witches are portrayed as evil and must be destroyed, as they should be. But some are good and a lot of people just don't understand us. The idea of destroying something you don't understand upsets me greatly. My focus is of balance. I tend to be in the middle. This movie focuses in the differences of the good/evil thing very well. There is a tender understanding of the differences portrayed in this movie eventually. You will shift sides throughout till you finally get it. The moral is we all need to get along, no matter our differences, and that makes it so beautiful it brings me to tears. Watch this movie. It's awesome.
Slow West (2015)
An awesome portrayal of life in the expanding west
This is an exceptional film. I was really moved by the reality of the push west and all it's brutalities. Micheal Fassbender was amazing as a cut- throat outlaw with a hidden conscience. This is a heart-felt love story, full of intelligence most don't see in a classic western film. And full of the chaos of the building of the west and the degradation of the native peoples and the struggle of those who came here or were forced here. It's raw, gritty, and unremorseful. It shows the brutality of how things were back then. And how the people who strive to survive have to deal with it. I got chills watching this. And a bit teary eyed. Strongly recommend. I don't post reviews unless it moves me so much. Watch this.
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
The previous reviews are hog wash
This movie is top notch awesome. All the critics who put it down are on crack. It takes sci-fi to a new level. The story is totally different. It encompasses an idea not based as life as we know it on Earth, and encompasses life as we (don't) know it in this galaxy and universe. It is smart and interesting, brings new ideas to sci fi. The gravity boots remind you of the Silver Surfer's surfboard with Iron Man's rockets of control. The CG was awesome! Kept me glued to the screen. It's an awesome film for the sci-fi gen. Watch it and decide for yourself. I rarely write reviews, but felt I had to despite the unfavorable reviews I read.
Serbuan maut (2011)
Blow you away!!!
If you like martial arts movies, this one will blow you away! The choreography on the fight scenes is insane. Im surprised I have any nails left to chew. They combine several different styles into each scene. Jackie Chan, take a seat and observe. No disrespect, I LOVE Chan, but the scenes in this movie are downright brutally realistic and full of just enough gore to convince the viewer without being too gross or unrealistic. The story is solid too. There's several underlying plot twists that get you guessing back and forth as to what is really going on. The main obvious plot twist becomes relevant in a very subtle way that makes the film's overall plot very heartfelt and real.
Bad Grandpa (2013)
So insanely hilarious!
I just watched this last night on a whim. I LOVED the Jackass series, though it was a bit too disgusting and crude at some points. This one has it's crude and gross moments, but is more watchable. This movie was so seriously funny I laughed out loud to the point of crying! The big kicker is it was shot all with hidden cameras, and most people did not know what was going on till after the scene was shot. The look on peoples faces while the scene was shot is priceless and the looks and reaction afterward took it over the top. Johnny Knoxville is a downright genius to surprise comedy. And the kid who played grandpa's grandson was spot on. Especially the scene near the end when they ambush a young girl's beauty pageant. OMG FRICKIN HILARIOUS!!! I almost peed myself so funny! 10 of 10. Up there with the best funny films of all time. Definitely recommend this film!
The 25th Reich (2012)
Awesome B movie!
If you like some cheese in your movies, this one has it! But, it was done so well. The characters are very stereotyped, but believable for the era. The special effects and CG is borderline terrible, (laugh out loud),but the story is top notch and acting very good. You get a good feeling for the characters and their clashing ideals. I've seen plenty of bad B movies, but this one is highly rated, right up there with best! Highly recommended! I loved it! You'l love it too, if you like 40's - 50's style of sci-fi. And I'm really picky about my movies and TV shows. They intended a sequel, but better leave this one to the imagination.
