NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Stranger in a Strange Land (2023)
Even Chuck Lorre would think this was too clichéd!
Why did the makers of NCIS let sitcom writers take over script duties for this episode? I assume that's whats happened here, as the ""jokes" and "comical" situation wouldn't seem out of place on The Big Bang Theory. The subplot regarding Jimmy being an overprotective parent was only missing a laugh track to compound the misery, and what makes it worse is that while the main story was full of good intentions, it was laughably told. Subtle story telling was no where to be seen, and while I applaud the overall message of this episode , it's execution was amateurish at best.
Alas, the term "Hate Watching" applies here for me. Apart from the odd episode, this show is so far from its heyday, its hard to reconcile this present day incarnation of NCIS compared to the glory days. Maybe I should give up on the show? The show certainly seems to have given up on its viewers.
Adaptation. (2002)
Am I wrong?
OK! I actually purchased this film some time ago without seeing it first(a rare thing for me) on the recommendations of various film magazines, and of course because of Kaufman's and Jones's masterpiece being John Malkovitch. "But" I hear you ask "Why are you only writing about it now?" Well dear reader, there are in fact 2 reasons. The first one is that I have only just discovered the wonders of "IMDB"(it now fills up far too much of my waking time)and second, because of the comments about "the ending". Before I come to the ending though,I will briefly tell you what I thought of the film. The whole cast (particularly Nic Cage and Nic Cage)was simply wonderful. While I think that everyone expects pitch perfect performances from the likes of Streep and Cooper,I was so surprised at the double whammy of Cage and Cage playing the twin brothers to such a wondrous affect.Never showy in his portrayal of 2 different people, yet always precise in his ability to never leave the audience in any doubt as to which brother we are watching. It was not just one complete performance, but 2. The story was bizarre, and yet plausible, right up until the end.Ah yes....the end..... Now I have read a few comments that have the theory that the Hollywood ending was written because the Author hated Hollywood endings. It is also stated that the author never got is own way, hence the Hollywood ending" I have a different theory(and please bear in mind that I haven't seen this movies in a while!) The first part of the film featuring Cooper and Streep was written by one brother, the shy intelligent and eloquent brother.....the "Hollywood ending" was written by his flash brother, who was already writing the generic screenplay that we have seen several times before. Am I right? Please post messages with your thoughts. One last thing,if nothing else, this movie sticks in your mind, weather you like it or not.A rarity in todays unoriginal market
