Empty and no story worth telling.
24 December 2006
One of the best examples to illustrate the decline of Cinema. If Hollywood executives come up with this sort of empty, story-less and uninvolving screenplays, and even succeed in getting cooperation of an superbly capable actress like Meryl Streep, the future looks very bleak indeed. Nice pictures though, and well photographed. This however cannot hide the supreme superficiality and lack of even a trace of interesting storyline. After the first reel, the road to the end is tedious and utterly predictable. An insult to intelligence and a great disappointment. Mind you, we watched it on the big screen, so don't be tempted to buy the DVD. Better treat yourself to a Chinese take-away. Has more content.

Enchanting production!
6 March 2005
Both visually and musically stunning. A treat for both the eye and the ear. The quintessential Victorian element of the opening sequences were completely enchanting, helping to create a Christmas scene of which Dickens himself would have been justifiably proud. Technically the production is visually stimulating and the special effects are both imaginatively devised and creatively achieved in a traditional stage setting. The dancing of many of the lead artistes is breathtakingly good. The photography and lighting are first class and the sound recording admirably matches the overall high level of technical skills employed. A great film for all the family at Christmas time and a most delightful discovery which will withstand multiple viewing.

The Music Man (1962)

The most heartwarming and engaging musical ever!
1 January 2005
This wonderful production has to be watched on the big screen to be fully appreciated. It is,in my opinion, the best translation from Broadway musical theater material to the opening-up on the screen. The performance and general character portrayal of Robert Preston is irresistible and a joy to watch. As far as musicals are concerned, this is the one to take along to your desert island! Í always look forward to the next opportunity there is to show it on the screen of my cinema again. Sentimental, nostalgic, funny and romantic, this picture has it all. And that includes the wonderful melodic songs and the fantastic choreography. I'm running out of superlatives. It's my favorite musical.
