Iraivi (2016)
Simply stunning - left speechless
Firstly, I have to tell Karthik subbaraj is a genius.I could see this movie is definitely an inspiration from some Hollywood films and one film in particular which is "legends of the fall" but the director has cleverly tweaked as per tamil sensibilities and given a masterpiece of a film. The story is very unique and very relatable to the whole world.
The film has a dark feel to it and the way it has been shot is simply mesmerizing. Kudos to the DOP. His is a major contribution which makes the movie immensely likable.
SJ surya, vijay sethupathi and Anjali have given power packed performances and it elevates the film to a new level. Anjali lives the role and you cant think of anyone other than vijay sethupathi in his role which he nails it. SJ surya is the surprise packet and boy o boy he doesn't disappoint.
The most beautiful thing about this film is I was seeing what i wanted to see and it was so refreshing that i began writing a review for this film despite being the laziest person ever born in the universe.Mr subbaraj, keep them coming man. you are one hell of a talent and please make at least 2 films in a year. Then lastly music and the bgm were awesome as well.
O Kadhal Kanmani (2015)
The director who has lost his midas touch
Mr. Maniratnam is one of the finest filmmakers in India which everybody knows but the latest from his stable which is OK kanmani is a mere OK to say the least. I was awestruck by the positive reviews for this movie but when I saw the film, it made me think whether I saw the same which everybody did.
The master has lost the Midas touch for sure. I am surprised whether this is the same man who gave masterpieces like Anjali, agni natchatiram and mounaragam to name a few. The uncanny ability in mesmerizing with diverse subjects has definitely taken a beating which is quite a big loss for his fans at least according to me.
The problem which I had with this film is the artificiality which just creeps in, when the protagonists converse is simply irritating to say the least. The dialogues are simply horrendous and the master has to really chisel on this major aspect if he wants any of his future projects to work. I personally think his raavan and kadal didn't work because of poor dialogues. I couldn't root for the lead pair which is very essential in a romantic movie. I want to tell maniratnam that a romantic couple in whatever relatioship they have talk sensibly than they do in his films. In this movie, I literally wanted to throw up when maniratnam portrays his stupid notion about a live in relationship. I was longing for scenes where the lead pair would come out of their shell and talk sensibly and those were very few.All the realistic utterance of dialogues are taken care by the supporting actors. The positive was prakash raj who saves this film from drowning by his flawless performance. The realism which enters into this film when he utters the dialogues is tremendous in this otherwise ordinary film. He is such a delight to watch and a treasure for the Indian film fraternity. His wife played by a new comer gives him some competition. The cinematography and music is great but couldn't praise it fully because of the director's lacklustre narration. Lastly maniratnam's latest take on live in relationship is awful to say the least.
1 - Nenokkadine (2014)
A terrific thriller which is a rarity in telugu cinema
Sukumar and mahesh babu have created a mind boggling thriller which the audience have to see to believe it. the "atmospheric" thing which is needed for a thriller worked big time in this movie and this attribute has stuck to this movie because of Mr.Sukumar. It was like a watching a Hollywood thriller movie with international standards. the production department has to be lauded for this.quite a complex screenplay but it keeps us glued to the screen and i wanted more of it.background score was terrific and the songs were mediocre. twists in the movie were simply awesome.this movie should be an eye opener for all Telugu directors who want to give different cinema.
The Words (2012)
a beautiful movie
This is the first time ever, i am writing a review on a movie. the words in word to be honest was mind blowing to me because of the flow and the simplicity of the screenplay by which it was told. so many movies in Hollywood just gets complicated in conveying a simple story but that wasn't the case with the words. the actors were simply fantastic and Bradley cooper without doubt will the next big thing in Hollywood. zoe saldana was gorgeous as usual and her chemistry with brad was simply superb. i am searching for adjectives here.guys, ignore the negative reviews and see this movie and enjoy.really looking forward to the next movie by words director.
