Farha (2021)
FARHA: A Haunting Reminder of the Brutality of Occupation
It is a powerful and moving film that tells a poignant and important story about the Palestinian girl and the ongoing struggle for education and self-determination in the face of armed conflict and occupation. The portrayal of a young Palestinian girl fighting for her right to learn and better herself despite the challenges and dangers around her is likely to be both inspiring and heart-breaking.
Overall, the movie appears to be a thought-provoking and emotionally charged film that shines a light on a very real and ongoing crisis. It seems like a must-see for anyone interested in the history and current state of the Palestinian conflict, and for those who value education and the right to pursue one's dreams in the face of adversity.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
A good remake, worth watching!
As an avid movie buff and undeterred by Aamir's political or personal stance, saw LSC as an effort by a huge team. As expected the theatre was Housefull as it has picked up by word of mouth and since childhood, an Aamir movie was something the whole family would agree to watch, it was a clean film.
It is no secret that it's a remake but it's worthwhile for a lot of people who don't see English films, don't have access to English proficiency or have started watching post OTT era. Movie is worth watching on big screen despite the tepid response it started with.
The director was one factor that appealed as Advait's previous 2 films Secret Superstar & Honeymoon Travels both were a delight.
Being a SRKian my star moment was his cameo. Retaining the 3 Idiots cast, Mona Singh is pleasant on eyes as a doting and strong mom. SRK looks weird as they have VFXed him.
Kareena looks gorgeous, shines in the film and undoubtedly is a value add to the movie LSC. She has been loosely based on an actress and is delightful in her role.
Aamir is an experimental actor and he is terrific - It's hard not to compare his expressions to Samar or PK which limits this beautiful character. His physical persona going through different phases propels the slow story but engages. Star power still is big as I saw the superior Rocketry in an empty theatre and know very few who watched it on big screen.
Naga Chaitanya wanted a slice of the pie but wish he had been utilised better. Chaitanya ends up with an insipid role and comes across as an annoying buffoon after 2 mins of his entry.
As for the movie's story, the army phase is really the best time shown and it has been guided by AVSM PVSM awardee Gen VP Malik and credits have been given to the respective police teams in states.
The other factors that stay with you and easily the highlights are
- The funny fictional way it shows how SRK got his signature step and how Rupa brand was created in India
- Manav Vij is a terrific actor and he has got some scope here.
- The child actor is endearing and a stunner,it makes you feel that a special child could be really special and do wonders.
- Kamini Kaushal even in a little frame is so loving, the legend has a little role but loved her presence
- The unrequited love theme with the perseverance of a child - Aamir makes you emotional in the right places
- A line where my kid looked at me as it was way similar to what I tell my kid "Religion causes malaria , God is all within us and around"
- The theme of a terrorist being reformed with just kindness and the realisation by which he feels so many are brainwashed by Maulvis etc - Manav rocks this character
- The Ik Onkar song reverberates through you and it's a lovely feeling.
- The storytelling showing the various incidents or events be it the mumbai attack-1983 world cup- miss universe etc, change in governments etc through the period.
- Arijit's song
The story needs a big time edit as it goes slow in 2nd half and most of stuff becomes repetitive especially the romance - The Punjabi is simplified for non punjabis to get it which works well as chaste plain language would have put me off.
What stands out is the humour that makes you chuckle, the emotional scenes are good, VFX is top notch almost n kudos to the director Advait for infusing and merging the history in the backdrop.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
The World Needs More Superheroes!
Kamala is a fast-talking, confident superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Kamala feels like she doesn't fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers.
One day, she is sitting on the curb below her school building and notices Captain Marvel soaring overhead. She realizes how strong and skilled she might be if she had a fraction of Captain Marvel's powers. Kamala gets so excited about being a superhero that she tells her parents about her idea. They are not thrilled, but they still support her in any way they can - because they love their daughter more than anything else in the world.
With their help, Kamala builds herself a costume and borrows a camera from her dad's work to create footage of herself as a superhero on YouTube-something to show Mom and Dad that becoming a hero would work. Her parents are still not convinced that this is what they really want.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Significantly dark, this sci-fi season is also lyrical, funny, and occasionally self-indulgent
This season is absolutely great and beautifully blends and interesting plot with mature themes just like the movie.
This plot is so interesting and unique that it completely blows my mind that some one thought of this, not only is the plot so interesting and enjoyable but it's also so easy to follow but feels so complex at the same time.
I am first time writing any review, just because of so many haters giving such negative feedback.
