Reviews
West Side Story (2021)
Just ok
Why this Spielberg redo ? Some cultural corrections, but otherwise a stylistic copy. Meh. The romantic leads are angelic and flat; 'Anita' is great.
But that sweeping music. Still wow after 60 years. (Except my favorite duet became an Oscar tactic)
Breach (2020)
Barney attacks
Prefitable, low budget affair. Lot of usual Bruce, little acting.
Emma. (2020)
Insufferable
Review header says it all. Slow, uninspired and tired.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Terribly disappointing
Just like 2020, WW84 sucks. Targeting 12y olds with a combination of slapstick and glamour shots. Like the actors, we deserve a better sequel. Straight to VHS.
Keeping Faith (2017)
Take shortcut
Watch a couple. Then stick with more slow episodes or jump to final. Mediocre either way.
The Capture (2019)
Great, until the end
Engrossing story with the usual quality acting. However, the end (last episode) is a huge disappointment and seems more about securing a new season then bringing this story to a close. Still very worthwhile watching.
Balthazar (2018)
S2 too much
Initially I enjoyed the characters and stories, but S2 is just over the top drama for lead Actor (cap A). Loved the French atmosphere.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Never mind the critics.
Never mind the critics. #StarWars9 is a fun and fitting end to the saga. Family ties explained and story lines connected in a visual extravaganza that made time pass quickly. The life force victorious. Nice job @jjabrams.
Operation Finale (2018)
About a monster.
Hard to downgrade a movie about capturing the butcher of WW2. It is mostly slow moving and chatty, yet building little human connection with captors, mixed with TV show-like suspense that cheapens this real-life story about incomprehensible evil.
The Poison Rose (2019)
Barely watcheable.
Marlowe-style 1950s acting and 1950s writing. Barely watchable, except for the fading stars (comets?) in a forgettable straight-to-streaming flick.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
It's a movie, folks; not a moral beacon.
Many reviewers seem oddly upset about the narrative, so deeply downgrade the flick. Versions of revenge movies have always been around, but perhaps today's audience has become too sensitive to accept this violent genre. Quite entertaining and interesting premise, though loses some steam at the end.
The I-Land (2019)
Not the worst
I enjoyed these reviews more than the show, but it is not that bad. About the same letdown as the final episode of Lost. Just skip it or wait for season 2.
Strangers (2018)
If you have time
Not enough story or character for 8 episodes. Lots of filler that makes otherwise good acting annoying.
La casa de papel (2017)
Good watch, but drawn out.
Entertaining master crime and crazy implausible love story (stories). Spain must have worst shooters in the world, rubber bullets and clueless police. Satisfying, cartoonish wrapup in S2. Watch with subtitles.
Hinterland (2013)
Gloomy
Miserable people solving tragic crimes in dreary countryside, accompanied by sullen music.
Goliath (2016)
Just season 1
Great S01. Terribly disappointing S02, incl gratuitous fetish subplot.
