Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Amelie, je t'aime ! Audrey... aussi.
One of the best movies in the last 20 years! See this if you see nothing else from this year. Audrey Tautou (not 'tatoo', but 't-ow-two') is enchanting and mysterious, and droll as a shy, sly girl trying to solve a puzzle of torn-up photos and perhaps also her neighbor's problems. I have to watch this every 6 months for a recharge. I can't find a fault in this, except you have to read the subtitles a bit; they are very short and easy to read. If you know a little French, you don't even have to do that ! I guess Montmarte is the setting, it's quaint and the people are funny. Amelie is a stunning and sweet girl, a crafty girl.
This is THE best instant movie for free on Netflix if you are subscribed & I think it's free on Amazon if you have Prime. Fantastique !
Bailout: The Age of Greed (2013)
Wall Street
Now, if ONLY this were a true story ! The only problem with this movie is, he didn't kill ENOUGH stock brokers! This country needs more real justice like this. I say, put a guillotine on the steps of the NYSE exchange and start chopping !
Yay !!!!!! Nice job, and nice getaway !!!!!
Also, maybe there is a bacteria or virus that only kills people with no moral compass ? There must be some smart weapon that will rid the earth of the people who financialized the economy since Reagan started our current Glass-Steagall runaway bank mess.
Just a citizen's opinion. I hope the First Amendment still applies to speech and writing of the underclass. If not, see you all in Gitmo !
How to Be a Serial Killer (2008)
It sucks ! and not in a good way!
This "movie" took me 2 hours closer to death, but unfortunately didn't finish the job. It got off to a slow start, and was predictable and tedious all the way through. I am a Ted Bundy and Manson girls fan, and was up for this, but any 10 yr old could've written a better screenplay. The actors are likable enough, but they didn't push the premise anywhere near far enough to be funny. It was just sad. I was waiting for some great victims who everyone loves to hate, to get whacked -- clones of Richard Simmons, Bernie Madoff, Rush Limbaugh, the energizer bunny, you name em, but they never showed up. Worst movie I've sat thru for about 20 years, and I have seen them all. Yow! It gets a 2 only for having decent actors. If they ever render you to Gitmo, for having an opinion or some other thought-crime, and show you this movie, GOUGE OUT YOUR EYES with the MacDonalds spork !!!!!!
Day Night Day Night (2006)
Kept me watching... but needs ending?
I just saw "Day Night Day Night" on cable for the first time; it was almost mundane but fascinating; it would've been even better if I hadn't read the online guide, that she was a terrorist recruit, and let it come as a shock. I only missed about 2 minutes of video making a sandwich.
Through the whole movie, I was waiting for her (She?) to realize that people are worth saving everywhere, even New York City, and that she should save her own young, perky life. I was praying she'd disarm the bomb, abandon it in a bus locker, and get a new life, or go home. Or date that black guy. Am I shallow?
As an atheist, I did not appreciate the ending -- it wasn't satisfying, it didn't resolve anything, or demonstrate any truth for me. Also not a Disney-enough ending for me...
I _was_ impressed by the politeness of the masked guys, and the way they made her wear her seat belt. Also, more nudity would've helped! Oink! Too borderline-meaningful!
