The Boogeyman (2023)
Promised plenty...
I looked forward to this. But... it let me down. So often the one thing that let's these promising horrors down is the 'monster'. Why? Why do they so often get it so wrong? How about a good old fashioned boogeyman being... just that... a man. A man in a dark corner... unseen... cloaked in shadow... a silhouette. But this... these 'monsters'. Please. Don't ruin a decent script with silly unbelievable 'monsters'. Could've been a 7. The monster drags it down to a 5 unfortunately. Horrors more often than not look promising... as did this one. But time and time again it is undone by the 'monster'. Get back to the more believable... and horrors will rise again.
Saint Maud (2019)
Seriously overrated.
Extremely disappointing. This started slowly... and got slower. Went nowhere. How career movie critics rate this so highly is an absolute mystery. This was borderline woeful. Certainly not a horror. I would describe it as a slow burning waste of 90mins. The credits were the highlight for me. I was thankful it was over. I was extremely generous giving it 3 stars. If you're looking for a horror movie... don't watch this. If you're looking for a thriller... don't watch this. If you're looking for a mystery, this isn't it. The only mystery here is how anyone could give this more than 5 stars. Please.
Nope (2022)
Overwhelmingly underwhelming.
What a huge disappointment. At times this movie bordered on the ridiculous. Horror? I think not. I'm not sure what it was. It was too silly to be taken seriously. I'd been looking forward to this for months. I knew inside the first 30mins it was going to let me down. Unfortunately it never really improved after that. If you're looking for something that is even remotely believable you better look elsewhere because this falls way short. It wasn't scary. It wasn't thrilling. It was a whole lot of nothing. Nope simply does not deliver. I will never understand how anyone could give this movie a pass mark. 5 stars is way too generous.
The House in Between (2020)
Underwhelming.
Not a criticism, I thought it was particularly well made and researched. But ultimately this didn't deliver much... or any real WOW factor for me.
Fear PHarm (2020)
Don't torture yourself.
Ohh man this was bad... and i mean real bad. As in when you're 15-20mins in you'll say to yourself... why didn't I listen? Production was good, was well put together, never felt cheap, but by God this was woeful. Don't do it to yourself. You won't get the 80mins back.
Evil Takes Root (2020)
Trust me... don't waste your time.
Nicholas Gonzales is way better than this. Why he signed on for this cheesey garbage is the biggest mystery here. I was generous in giving it 3 stars.
Open 24 Hours (2018)
It surprised me.
I went in not expecting too much, so this one really surprised me and exceeded expectations. If horror/suspense with some blood and guts is your bag... it's well worth a look. Well put together, surprisingly well done.
The Bad Seed (2018)
Above average TV movie.
Well worth a look, not far short of being a genuine cinematic release.
Sputnik (2020)
The Russkies can put a decent movie together.
Really enjoyed this. Definitely worth a watch if this type of thing is your go you'll really enjoy it. Would've given 6.5 if they'd let us do halves.
You're Not Alone (2020)
Promised... but never really delivered.
All the way thru it done just enough to keep me interested. Decent little plot twist in the final act... but still fell a little short. Not terrible by any means.
Witches in the Woods (2019)
Worth a look.
I'd give it 5.5 if they would ever give us that option. It definitely gets a pass mark.
