The Haunting (1999)
CGI Overdose
This adaptation bears little resemblance to the original. This one is one "special effects" presentation after another. Some of it is actually pretty embarrassingly bad; the carved children's faces, for example.
It's overacted and plays almost like a parody. Give it a shot if you're bored on a cold Autumn night. But it will probably disappoint you.
Extraterrestrial (2014)
Entertaining ... and isn't that really the goal?
There was no new ground broken here, but overall, I think it was a decent movie. If you're a fan of the science fiction genre, and not an absolute critical snob, chances are you'll find yourself entertained.
I went into this film with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to get more than I had bargained for. The production values were a little on the meager side at times, but they did pretty well with what they had to work with.
There was an unexpected twist or two and even a wink and a nod to popular culture via a cigarette. Just watch it already. There are much worse ways to spend an hour and a half.
Match Game (2016)
Loved The Original
The very first episode of the new Match Game 2016 and the panelists are lackluster and/or marginally recognizable as famous.
Rosie O'Donnell was unable to keep her political views to herself and turned entertainment into soap boxing. Who gives a damn what she thinks about any of the presidential candidates? That's not what this show is supposedly about. She had her chance to whine on The View. Now, she's trying to torpedo another show with her vitriol.
I loved the original Match Game from the Seventies. This isn't on par.
I thought Alec Baldwin was pretty good, but even so, he just makes me realize how much fun Gene Rayburn really was, back in the day.
I won't be tuning in to future broadcasts.
Ghostly Encounters (2005)
Garbage TV
I love investigation of mysterious and spooky phenomena. But, if there's not a hint of realism to it, then it puts me off.
This show is pure garbage. The back stories are slightly interesting and then, this hokey "psychic" shows up to make it all a big steaming pile of ............ you know.
I would put this show into the same category as "Finding Bigfoot", in which everything that makes a noise in the woods is quickly identified as a "SQUATCH!" Hokum.
There are a proliferation of shows such as this, so apparently many people are like me and interested in the paranormal. It's a shame there are more quality shows out there. This show does not rate as quality.
I won't bother turning this crap on again. It's terrible.
Summoned (2013)
Understandably Direct To DVD
First off, let's just be honest. The acting in this movie was pretty bad. The stilted dialog and wooden performances made it hard to finish this movie.
Cuba Gooding Jr.'s name is added to this film supposedly to give it credibility. He's barely in the movie. After his last several films, it would seem that his name is becoming more and more associated with low budget specials such as this one.
The storyline is right out of a made for TV movie. The ending was so cliché that it was painful.
I would not recommend this movie unless you're really bored and there's no paint to watch drying.
