The White Lotus (2021)
Television that's worth the time.
Beautifully written, directed, photographed, acted, and produced. What more can be said? It's a very high quality program from almost every angle. Though hard to place in a genre, it may not be your genre of choice; however, the quality is undeniable. This season in Sicily had a more dramatic tone than the first, but was appropriate for the haunted feel that is Sicilia. I assume, as always, some will look to find fault or inappropriateness. In this season, that may include the choice of tying the writing to traditional Italian organized crime. I would ask them to take closer look before passing judgement, and to also take a deeper dive into the similar true stories that are at least as difficult to believe. The season was altogether excellent entertainment, methinks.
Motel Mist (2016)
Photographed Beautifully, Horrible Film
The beauty of the cinematography in this film may well make you believe that you should keep watching. You hope that there is some sort of story or meaning that is worth the wait. Don't be fooled. Apart from the strangely excellent photography, this film is one that after viewing, you wish to go back in time a few hours and y'all yourself out of it. It's an excellent example of a film from a country where cinema is not yet fully understood. The imagery is a truly excellent achievement, the acting is perfectly fine, but the writers and director should re-think their career decisions. Very weak.
