Waiting... (2005)
A fun, easy watch with plenty of laughs!
I wish they still made films like this! "Waiting..." is a classic, low-budget comedy typical of the nineties and noughties. Uncensored and bordering on the surreal, this film is unapologetic in it's inanity. The plot, which could be liberally summarised in a single sentence, is matched by the "kitchen-sink" style scene-setting (with the film taking place almost exclusively within the confines of the restaurant). However, this is what makes the film such a ripe apple for comedy. It gives the actors, by design, tremendous scope! Ryan Reynolds leads with his oft-seen, smooth-talking and witty character, while the rest of the cast provide ample comedic material.
Take the movie for what it is - a light-hearted, silly comedy. Perfect for a Friday night after a tough week!
Key and Peele (2012)
Seminal and hilarious
Key and Peele is incredibly funny! With any sketch show, you usually describe them as "hit-and-miss", however this breaks the mould and is 95% hit. Both Key and Peele are just very naturally funny people, and their chemistry is second-to-none. A lot of the best sketches centre around race, with no holds barred. They are unapologetic in their humour, tackling issues big or small with subtle satire which invariably develops into absurd, sophomoric, and slapstick humour.
It must be said that the best sketches do come early on in the show, as might be expected. Nonetheless, series 4 and 5 have some excellent, very quotable, sketches which stand the test of time.
If you haven't seen this show, but enjoy "silly" humour, then this is a must watch.
Embattled (2020)
What you expect and more!
I don't understand the low ratings! This film delivers all that you expect - realistic, exciting fight scenes with a compelling story to back it up. But more than that, the tragic backstory is fantastic and drip fed to you throughout the film. This came as a surprise to myself, but I found myself thinking about it for days afterwards. Absolutely worth your time, because even if the backstory doesn't draw you in, the fight scenes absolutely will!
Angel Has Fallen (2019)
Action with a half-decent storyline!
You know what you're gonna get with these type of films, and it delivers. Lots of action, blood, and fighting. But Angel Has Fallen also offers a half-decent storyline to keep things interesting. Although it may be obvious what the "twist" will be within 20 minutes, if you're looking for a good action film then you've found it. Need any more be said?
