The Incredibles (2004)
Surprising delight
This movie was a surprise from start to the finish. The scenery was beautiful. In particular I loved the bad guys' enemy lare. It was a web of neat visual structures. The animation of each character was top-notch, in particular the females' faces were extremely realistic. It was fun to learn what "powers" each family member had, and to see them use those powers. Having a dysfunctional family, with all the family problems made the movie more realistic. It also helped you connect with the character when you saw their struggles. There are many adult overtones that make this much more than a cartoon, yet it still holds the magic for the children.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Are you kidding? This is not funny in the least!
I've never been so disappointed with a movie in my life. There wasn't anything remotely funny in this film; only what you saw in the trailer which the second time around got a smile from me. Other that that the movie was dragged out and boring, with too many pauses, poorly written dialog, and too simple of a plot, with one foreseeable direction. Bill Murray's character is as boring as the one he played in Lost in Translation. By that I mean flat, dead, and lack-luster. I loved Bill Murray in Scrooged, Ghost Busters, Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, & The Man Who Knew too Much; but I wonder if his latest films are bad because he's feeling old? I hope not because I think he has a lot more energy than he's showing on the screen, so he should stop taking boring parts. I didn't care for any of the characters, and couldn't connect with any of them accept for maybe Owen Wilson and a young reporter on board. I felt the whole movie was dreary & depressing. The camera style, documentary footage made the movie even worse. I would'nt even bother to rent this one.
Hello Again (1987)
Great Movie
Hello Again's best characters are Shelley Long and the actress who plays her sister. It offers an unique storyline that isn't beat to death in the movies. The film also provides an array of kooky characters, such as Shelley Long's sister, daugther-in-law, and brother-in-law. As usual Shelley's physical comedy makes you chuckle, even if it is more subtle in this flick. The comedy is off-sets by watching Shelley's struggle through this particular predicament, and although at times you empathisize with her, the movie never brings you down. It generally makes you chuckle and provides a feel-good atmosphere. The combination makes this one of my favorite comedy's of its era. It's a must see.
