Forget Me Not (2009)
Forget About It!
I see all these good reviews and I have to wonder what movie these people were watching? The "Forget Me Not" I saw had no character development, so there was no one to root for or care about. The film was assembled badly. The director uses flashbacks to give the audience the details of the story, but he waits until the very end to reveal the whole story, but we've watched most of the movie with a general idea of what's going on, so it's no surprise and just seems way too late to have any impact. Also, the opening scene of the film appears to be setting up the conclusion of the film, but has absolutely no relevance to anything in the movie. And the acting is mostly from a D-level cast. You don't have to worry about remembering the names of the cast, because they're playing forgettable characters in a lackluster horror film.
The only positives I can say for the film are that it was a good idea for a film and the general story could've been interesting if there were some characters to root for. Basically, it was a good idea on paper, but pretty much everything else goes wrong from there.
Minor Details (2009)
Complete Garbage!!!!!
I don't know who's been writing all of these glowing reviews for this film, but I'm guessing that they've either never seen a film before in their lives or maybe they had something to do with making the film. That's about the only explanation, because EVERYTHING is BAD about this film. The writing is horrible, the acting is terrible, the casting is awful and the direction is pathetic. I can understand a bad script and the poor direction, but couldn't they have at least found some interesting actors?? It seems like you'd be able to walk into about any high school in the country and find a half dozen kids that could act better or be more interesting than this cast. I'm not trying to pick on these kids, but I can't ever recall seeing a film where so many of the actors were just unpleasant to even watch on screen.
This is one of those rare films that comes along every so often where it seems like everything went wrong. From the low budget look and poor staging of the scenes to the actors that sound like they're reading cue cards, badly, it seems like nothing goes right.
And for those people that are able to make it to the end of this flick, you probably did more hurling than all the kids in this film. A Terrible Film!!! This is the kind of film IMDb should allow people to give the film a zero or maybe negative one review, because it doesn't deserve a one star!!
Kids in America (2005)
Kids In America Review
I just saw the film, and thought I'd post my review. I'm a little surprised by some of the comments, both the over-the-top enthusiastic reviews and the reviews blasting the film. I didn't think the film was hilarious or terrible. I thought the film was okay. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars out of 4, a marginal recommendation (6 out 10 on the IMDb scale). This is a story about a group of teenagers, lead by Holden (Gregory Smith), that lead a small rebellion against their vicious Principal (Julie Bowen), who has a penchant for suspending students and is running for Superintendent of Schools. I thought the story was pretty good and the acting was good. I did like the "movie love scenes" montage, but didn't think it had much of a point. One thing I didn't like were the student films and 2 talent shows, which looked like they were conceived and assembled by 3rd graders, not high schools kids, (or film writers). If these had been sharp and funny, they would've been entertaining, and would've fit the rest of the film. I'm not going to bother with any political angles, because films don't alter my political views. This is a simple story that could've been sharper, but is a nice, mild diversion.
Mac and Me (1988)
Absolutely Terrible
I wish I could give this film a minus grade. I couldn't believe that I ran across this film again. This film was released almost 17 years ago, but I still remember how terrible it was. It was that bad! This is one of my picks for all-time worst film. This terrible film wasn't only a horrible rip-off of "ET", but it had a dance sequence in a McDonald's. Isn't that enough information to understand how bad this film was? Even the little alien was butt ugly. I'm not sure what the makers of this film were thinking. Why they'd even try to make a cheesy rip-off doesn't make a lot of sense. It was more blatant in 1988, but even now it looks pretty crass. A Horrible film! Miss this Disaster!
Sideways (2004)
Not a Comedy, and Not Very Interesting
I don't mind films that are character studies, but if it's a comedy, it needs to be funny. This film isn't. It also helps if the characters are interesting. This is a very pedestrian film. If I wanted to see this film, I guess I could have invited my friend who's an actor and my other friend who's a teacher to go on a tour of wine country. I'm sure it would have been as exciting and probably funnier than this film. With the glut of downbeat films about alcoholics and womanizers, I have to wonder if that was the topic of last year's "Screenwriting Seminar", because it seems like every writer has to have a film dealing with these subjects this year.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Overrated!
Critics loved this film, but critics don't know David Lynch. This film is just more of the crap he gave us in "Twin Peaks". It's just a bunch of weird and random stuff thrown at the screen with quirky and strange characters meant to be intriguing, but, inevitably, is all meaningless junk with no point or purpose to it. It's like "The Emperor's New Clothes", where Lynch is the tailor telling the Emperor only an intelligent person can see his creation, when the truth is that he's fooling almost everyone, because there's nothing really there. To all the critics and fans of the film, I can only say, "The Emperor is in his underwear.".
