Stargate Universe (2009–2011)

You have to understand...
20 November 2009
So this show isn't perfect, and yes, they have veered off the usual SG path, but you have to give the writers the benefit of the doubt. Atlantis was good, but 5 years on there wasn't much more to go on. It fell prey to the same as SG1. This at least is a new take, plus, you have to realize, they wanted a new version of Stargate and Battlestar = this, for better or worse. It comes to whether or not SG fans want to have even a remnant of the original show left on the air. As a partial Trekkie, I can say that I stuck by Voyager and even Enterprise to keep the story lines somewhat intact. Without SGU what would we have? Even though I have not seen every episode, I return to the story eventually because it is still better than most of whats out there!

Why or why
5 June 2009
OK, so I wanted to give this film my wide-open mind, and in the end, it was terrible. Honestly, there was more laughter than "OHHs", and though Raimi is when known for such things, this movie is no where near the level of Evil Dead. It is rubbish - and Justin Long cannot act at all! The editing was poor and the plot laughable. Justin Long's character has literally no clue what is happening the whole movie - really? Also, the nonchalance by which the female star goes about her 'duties' is poorly executed. What is good in this film are the supporting cast members - that are better than the so-called 'stars'. Also, as my friend pointed out, there is much here about female vs. male, which isn't new for his films, but here lacks all subtlety.

not exactly what I expected, but...
18 October 2008
Saw the film last night and it wasn't exactly what I expected. It had more of a 'mocumentary' feel and my friend who went with me said he thought it would be 'funny' - now, there were funny moments, but it was purely from the actual events really. I walked out thinking, 'wow - given that presidential candidates have been crushed by the smallest of innuendo or gaffe's, it really is an amazing story that W. became prez!' I also thought the film did a great job of showing what i think many have thought: W. didn't get to where he was on his own, he always had help. The thing is, and I think the film does a good job showing this, he thinks he did things on his own, but in reality, his 'handlers' (from Rove to his dad and on down) were always there, always behind the curtain. W. is our modern day Wizard of Oz only without the happy ending.

Felicity (1998–2002)

Amazinngly good show
2 May 2006
I came upon this show while in college and enjoyed every episode! Keri Russell and all the cast and characters are terrific with dialog and feeling to match! Definitely JJ Abrams best effort, though i like Alias and Lost to a lesser extent, Felicity has it all. It is always amazing to me how shows can create a scene and sense of a city when they are not even filmed in that city! NYC in Felicity felt as real as real, down to the background and sounds. The show created that perfect little window to look in upon a tiny little world that held so much. I was disappointed when it was canceled but at least it had its college run, and the ending four or five shows were done exquisitely! Thank the goddess its out on DVD!

The 4400 (2004–2007)

Even better on the 4th go-round
21 January 2005
Amending my statement as to the greatness of this show, which, I should point out, has been online since '05. Let me reiterate most vehemently: this was by far one of the best shows ever on TV. I think that Heroes is such a corporate fraud of this program. I liked Heroes for a while, but never forget that I knew from the beginning that it was a corporate takeover of the much better 4400. Now I can barely stand it. The plot is all twisted and crazy. The 4400 at least deserves a mini-series followup in which some of those tangled threads are sown up. This is by far one of the best shows ever. Take a look and see. The hero vs. villain plot was really fleshed out in season 4, only to end to abruptly. I know that the writers strike had a part in the shows demise, but still: NBC owns USA and thereby at least could grace us with a replay on SciFi, another NBC holding. They replayed KINGS or whatever its called, and it is no where near this caliber. I say again: mini-series of 4400 to resolve some stuff or else!
