Fair City (1989– )
1/10
Not Bad as in Good just Extremely Bad Rubbish
4 January 2012
RTE have the nerve to say on their website that they are the best broadcaster in the world. They aim their programmes at the rural over 50's.

Fair City is simply BORING. The most BORING rubbish you will ever see on any television in the world.

70% or more of the staff on Fair City are women, does this say something?

RTE should be ashamed of this programme and the majority of its output.

I once switched on the Fair City and it had three characters in their eighties !!

It is simply a bad joke.

Shifty (2008)
The Boring Life Of A Crack Dealer
12 August 2011
Not sure how this film has 6 out of 10 but British people tend to big up British films even if the aren't that good.

Shifty is pretty boring, slowly paced and lacking any interesting action. The DVD cover emphasises the soundtrack which is mundane.

Nothing much happens, Shifty gets chased by the police and gets mugged. He deals drugs and its not that interesting. ITV or BBC would make a drama like this. There is no grittiness. Where Shifty lives looks pretty OK to me.

I would recommend LAYER CAKE as a better drug film or HARRY BROWN for grittiness or the original GET CARTER for a real 10/10 classic.

I will not watch Shifty again and it will be going to a charity shop.

Not recommended.

Don't waste your money (Warning)
7 May 2010
I have just come home from seeing Hot Tube at the cinema. Why did I go? A female film reviewer raved about it.An online review gave it four out of five stars and said it was the best comedy so far this year.IMDb had it at 7 out of 10. The film is very disappointing, there are some good comedy moments but not enough to save it.I didn't like the character with the shaved head. A few months ago I got DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN on DVD for 2 euro and expected not to like it but I thought it was funnier than Hot Tub, had a better sense of silliness and was more warm hearted. Most people in the cinema tonight were not laughing and I could understand why.Wait for Hot Tub on TV and save yourself a wasted night.

The Room (2003)
5/10
Is it the worst?
23 January 2010
I just watched The Room on DVD and wonder if all this "worst film ever" hype is for real.Yes, it is bad.Yes, there are bizarre bits that make no sense.Yes, a character goes for a jog with Johnny AND is with Lisa at the same time (at least I think it was Mark in two places!) For me Urban Menace is a for more worser film, a film so bad it has no redeeming qualities.Even Plan 9 From Outer Space is worse.I think a lot of people are told what to like and dislike by the media & the internet (the average Rocky Horror Picture Show is a case in point.) People watch The Room 30 times? Is that because they feel they have to to fit in with the crowd? I give this 5 stars...the endless love making scenes were terrible and I found Lisa a bore but for me every scene with Tommy Wiseau made this DVD worthwhile. He reminds me of Christopher Walken's talentless brother who can't act or direct. The end scene with him is marvelous.

I would recommend this film, it made me laugh a lot but as Chuck D said : Don't believe the hype!

The Order (2003)

Not Bad - Worth Viewing
14 September 2007
I have just watched the Sin Eater on Irish TV and it was not bad.Better than the average film if a little on the cheap side.

The acting overall was good and the film showed some depth of thought. If William Eden had been played by Christopher Walken you could have had a really excellent film.

The Italian locations were very nice and the underground scenes had a bit of a Gothic tone.I'd prefer a more Gothic film in the vein of THE CROW.

As I said, not bad.I wouldn't buy it on DVD but if it was on the TV again I would watch it.Oh, the girl who played Mara reminded me of Asia Argento so that was good.Have a look!

The Crow (1994)
10/10
A Top 20 film for me!
1 September 2007
I really like The Crow a lot.I never tire of seeing it.It has a lovely "feel".It rains all the time. Its dark.Even the use of models I think ads to the whole thing.

For me it also has a few levels.A kid could watch it and enjoy it but an adult can get a lot from it.It has a nice romantic undertone without being schmaltzy or pandering to female viewers.

All the acting is very good and the characters are very good too.I have the 2 disc DVD and as I said it bears repeated viewings.I give it ten because it is a ten film.Watch and enjoy. It is sad Brandon Lee is no longer among us...he left a great film.

Blake's 7 (1978–1981)
10/10
Very Enjoyable Wobbly Sc Fi.
11 May 2007
Blakes 7 is one of those series that only the BBC could have made in the late seventies/ early eighties. Its kind of crappy yet I find it very enjoyable to watch. It has good strong characters and a few of the story lines are pretty good.Overall the whole is more satisfying that the parts.Yes, the sets wobble and the dialogue can be a bit stupid but the stories are usually very entertaining and there is a good dose of humour in it. Characters like Avon, Servalan, Dayna and Vila are all excellent and the actors do the best with what they've got. If you have not seen Blakes 7 check it out now on DVD.All series are available in box sets and I recently got series 4 for £19.99 inclusive which is not bad. By the way, like the original Star Trek Blakes 7 got sillier and more pantomime toward the end.Which is why I like the later stuff as it is funnier...in that late seventies BBC way...

Shoestring (1979–1980)
Great Laidback Detective Series
5 March 2005
About a year ago I got one of the VHS tapes of Shoestring featuring Toyah Wilcox.I used to enjoy Trevor Eve as the chilled out gumshoe who solved murders & mysteries on the West Coast of England when I was a teenager.

Shoestring is now very dated, it seems to be from an era further back than the late 70's but I don't hold that against it.It is charming and witty and Trevor Eve is excellent.

As far as I know only 2 VHS compilations were ever made and the other one is rare & expensive to buy.Why can't ITV or whoever release this great series on DVD? It really is very good and has that great quirky 'English' style that still holds up today.

Check a famous online auction site for the tape.

Urban Menace (1999 Video)
1/10
A Great Bunch Of Rubbish
5 March 2005
I purchased this DVD & Driller Killer for 5 euro and expected something more than a compleat pile of crap. There is no story or plot.Urban Menace is a joke.I'm a fan of hip hop and usually find Ice T pretty lame but the tracks he used on this seem to be outtakes from his worst album.Snoop Dogg is rubbish and you would hardly know he was in it.Did he get paid $200 for an afternoons work? I give this 'film' one star simply because Fat Joe & Big Pun made me laugh with their rubbish 'acting'.If you could fix your DVD to only play the scenes with these two you could raise a smile. If you find the Urban Menace DVD lying in the street pass it by...a piece of burnt wood is more interesting.
