The Babadook (2014)
Definitely an 8 at least.
I can't imagine why anyone would score this film less than a 7, even if they're in a bad mood!
This film is good, atmospheric, entertaining. It's a horror film, so you have to expect a few cliches. But they don't detract from it.
Very good acting, especially the young boy.
Definitely watch it!
The Trip to Greece (2020)
Don't waste your time.
Completely annoying pair of self opinionated bores, spend the entire time listening to the sound of their own voices. The only saving grace is the fabulous scenery, but there's not nearly enough of it. Don't waste your time watching this self indulgent stuff.
The ABC Murders (2018)
Waste of tv time.
Don't bother watching this tosh. Malkovitch is appallingly bad, with an accent that veers all around the globe, but is never even remotely French sounding.
Having seen really great Pour it versions ( loved Peter Ustinov), this adaptation is not worthy of an hour of tv, let alone 3 episodes. The other actors are equally uninspiring, and don't seem to know what's going on either.
People who INSIST on remaking classics, should be forced to watch their own remakes non-stop for 2 weeks.
Not recommended.
Contratiempo (2016)
Loved it.
I loved, loved, loved this film. A very well put together thriller with an ending that most people won't see coming. Although, if you pay very close attention, you might get it.
Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy!
Departure (2019)
4 out of 10 is generous.
Some seriously bad acting and woeful storyline make this a candidate for a "Why did they bother" award. The entire plot relies on the audience believing that a person sucked out of a plane at high altitude can survive a) the fall itself b) the landing in the open ocean. It's all downhill from there and just gets sillier.
I can't imagine why Christopher Plummer agreed to be in this disaster.
Goldstone (2016)
Really wanted to like it, but
This movie is just so far fetched, it stretches even the most avid movie goer's imagination. It's full to the brim with stereotypical evil, conniving white people, using and abusing anyone not white. All the cops (other than our hero, of course) are corrupt and incompetent. Business and community leaders are corrupt beyond redemption. It's all a bit much, with the single Indigenous detective against everyone else.
Interesting plot line, but just takes those stereotypes too far.
Fascinating scenery, though.
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco (2018)
Very poor copycat.
I just cannot imagine why Americans keep taking brilliant tv and film from other countries, and then attempt to "improve" them. Virtually every time it's a disaster. It must be that 1. Americans cannot understand English as it is meant to be spoken, and need their own "accent"; 2. Americans cannot speak any foreign languages and cannot handle sub titles 3. Americans like to picture themselves as the only people in the world who can produce tv and film.
Just STOP IT.
Don't bother watching this tosh - go straight to the British version.

Serangoon Road (2013)
Great entertainment
This series is meant to entertain. It doesn't claim to be a documentary or factual history or personal experience. It's just entertainment - don't expect it to be anything else. Of course there are character stereotypes standard dialogue and familiar plot lines - after more than 100 years of filming, what movie doesn't contain those things? The actors are good and the scenery and background activity appear very authentic. I've spent considerable time in Singapore (in recent years of course!), and the backdrops look real enough to me, even given that the series is set in 1964. Chill out and be entertained for a while - or watch something else.
