Finch (2021)
CAST AWAY 2.0 - Wilson makes a return as a bucket of bolts
Cast Away 2.0, the first one was awful and so is this one. Finch is basically Castaway 2.0. An idiotic premise that promises so much but ultimately goes nowhere. The ONLY thing that this movie has gong is the special effects. At least you understood that Wilson was a volleyball, but trying to pass off a home made Robot with human feelings is beyond stupid. If you are a kid or young teen, I could see the appeal of the corny scripted jokes. But as film, I found it stupid and boring. Hanks simply reprises his Cast Away character in Finch - BOTH FILMS ARE AWFUL. Finch takes you on a road to nowhere, while Finch could have been a Cast Away on a deserted island - you start & end nowhere.
Three Identical Strangers (2018)
Q. When is a Civil Wrong REALLY a CRIME ? Brilliantly Documented - An emotional juggernaut
The documentary is excellent as the filmmakers really engage the audience to 'buy' into the film in the early stages - then you are hooked and then then the emotional journey begins - and as they start peeling the onion away you cant seem to step off the off the emotional locomotive you accidentally boarded.
Although disturbing at times - the actual art of film making here is top notch
Q When is a Civil Wrong really a Crime ? - A crime is an offence that merits community condemnation and punishment, usually by way of fine or imprisonment. A Civil Wrong (a tort), which is an action against an individual that requires compensation or restitution. (Wiki)
If you don't really know WHEN a WRONG becomes a CRIME - watch three Identical strangers
Some definitions of a "CRIME" & "CRIMINAL" include
Criminal - adjective - (of an action or situation) deplorable and shocking. Crime - any offense, serious wrongdoing, or sin. Crime - a grave offense especially against morality - You be the judge ?
I can't tell you how disturbing & cruel I found this well researched film
Louise Wise Services (SHAME ON YOU) Justine Wise Polier (SHAME ON YOU) Natasha Josefowitz (SHAME ON YOU) Dr Lawrence Perlman (SHAME ON YOU) Dr. Peter Neubauer (SHAME ON YOU)
Footnote - These NY Jews treating babies as lab rats - How ironic considering the history
10 stars for exposing this injustice - my heart goes out to ALL the NY Twins & Triplets affected.
The Good Liar (2019)
Promising Start descending into complete stupidity - its not the actors that get conned - IT'S YOU !!! so don't be a dumb ass & see this
Promising Start descending into complete stupidity - its not the actors that get conned - IT'S YOU !!! so don't be a dumb ass & see this
McKellen;s performance is terrific & So very promising for most of the movie - BUT BUT BUT be prepared to be punked as the story decends into the nonsensical stupid farce it ultimately becomes
Don't be like this patsy (me) and watch the lot - you WILL BE DUPED - I promise
Underwater (2020)
Alien wannabe (FAIL!!!) only good thing (for me) was Kirsten in her underwear
Garbage Garbage Garbage Garbage apart from the underwear sequences (sexist I know - & I apologise) but I found absolutely NOTHING else that I enjoyed - so I am digging deep (oops - sorry for the pun) to justify the 1 star I gave this tripe
Some may like this type of schlock - I cannot believe the positive ratings here at IMDB
However If you have brain and perhaps if you are male - - you may find you might agree with my summation
I tried to warn you NOT to see it - but if you must - at least you know what to look for lol hahaa
The Tomorrow Man (2019)
What A Load Of Rubbish
I love John Lithgow - no other actor can portray confusion quite like he does - but I was doing my best John Lithgow impersonation while watching The Tomorrow Man - odd - to say the least
There is a nice little reference to the Twilight Zone which I found quite amusing - and if you are a fan of Lithgows & Twilight Zone - you will recall his brilliant performance in Nightmare at 20,000 Feet
Other than that - for 95 minutes of awkward weirdness you can knock your self out with this forgettable piece of garbage - and there is alot of that in this movie
Footnote - I found this reviewers comments as strange as the movie
CONTENT ADVISORY: Occasional conversational foul language, occasional cigarette smoking by a secondary character, Ed offering Ronnie alcohol & other beverages when she first comes to his house & she chooses to have water, champagne with the family Thanksgiving meal, a heated argument with yelling during the meal followed by the granddaughter running away from the neighborhood, one incident of Ed low speed wreckless driving, heavy kissing with strong insinuation of intercourse & Ed waking up the following morning at Ronnie's house.
Dude - you need to get more LOL - this is the most harmless and tame movie EVER !!!! btw
Bluefin (2016)
Stunningly beautiful Giant Bluefin Tuna imagery - I will NEVER eat sushi again
OMG - I had no concept, no idea at all about Tuna - other than food. This documentary gives the viewer an up close and personal perspective of these MAGNIFICENT creatures both in the wild and whilst being slaughtered - the images and imagery captured and provoked by the film makers are poignant. stunningly beautiful and truly disturbing - all at the same time.
It seemed to me that one of the goals of this documentary (by inviting the viewer to be physically so VERY close to these magnificent creatures) was to create an emotional response, empathy and an understanding of Giant Bluefin Tuna as a wild animal & not that a piece of meaningless sushi that has been gorged "worldwide" so that they are VIRTUALLY extinct - if so, the film makers certainly succeeded with me
Whist I am virtually helpless in stopping the Giant Bluefins from extinction - as over 90% - NINETY PERCENT of their population has been gorged mainly for sushi and their best breeders are also the favorite target of big game fisherman - a truly miserable outlook and most likely extinction seems the only viable possibility for these magnificent creatures........... I can at least marvel at their magnificence ...........you know, the GIANT REDWOOD aint just another tree and the Giant Bluefin aint just another fish - far from it
I can also NEVER eat sushi again - for me it is impossible to do so after this truly thought provoking experience I had while watching this very well put together documentary
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015)
This Scientology doco is like looking into a mirror at OURSELVES !!!
This documentary, was fascinating, thought provoking and disturbing - on so many levels (for me). I gave a rating of 10/10 not so much on the subject matter, even though it is presented extremely well - but because of the PROFOUND effect it had on me for many hours after I stopped watching.
and this is what I experienced in the aftermath.....
Am I a supporter of Scientology ? NO I AM NOT. BUT I found this documentary VERY thought provoking BUT not because it "exposes" Scientology as mind manipulators and control freaks.
What this documentary (to me) clearly shows is the HUMAN CONDITION and resulting behaviors associated with ORGANISED ANYTHINGS......ALL Religions,Political beliefs and any form of culture that (as a social being) we MUST belong to......NEED TO.....not only to HAVE TO be part of something, but also to try to have an understanding of the unexplainable.
Examining Scientology and the methods they employ, is JUST another look at the "tools" of mind manipulation and the extraordinary effort "institutions" will employ to maintain control of large groups of people......Are THEY any different to US ? ....for example, take Christianity back in the fun days of BURNING HERETICS - no better case than Galileo being labelled Heretic for not "fitting in" - or subjecting non-conformers to the Spanish Inquisition or Muslims attempting to Jihad the entire infidel population - now there is a bit mind manipulation and control happening there, but is it any different than the US Government and their WAR on TERROR and /or their FIGHT FOR FREEDOM or Capitalism promoted as a "freedom" hiding behind a tyranny of greed or Communism or Fascism or Nazism.....No matter if perceived as GOOD or EVIL all "Institutions" in order to flourish - have the need to engage in the murky worlds mind manipulation and control. We see this exposed in this Scientology documentary.......but WE have ALL seen this type of thing before......haven't we.
Just forget about the differing individual methods employed by "organised anythings" INCLUDING SCIENTOLOGY and concentrate for a moment on the objectives......and they are are ALL the same.....mind manipulation and control.
We are ALL manipulated and controlled by our own belief systems - all of which are reinforced and fed straight back to us in the form of literature, rules, symbolism and punishments......all of which are mirrored back to us in this documentary. But their "books" rules symbolism and punishments may look different to ours - but they have the same effect that you and I experience within OUR own belief system.
Personally, I think Scientologists are NUTS...and scary and power hungry nuts....and then I looked around......
They really are NO DIFFERENT to anybody else. Brainwashed into believing the unbelievable.....if you think about it.....The stories in the Bible, Torah, Quran are all pretty far fetched (..and on the first day there was......loaves and fishes anybody !!!....oops, where'd he go...he was here 3 days ago) - and as equally unbelievable as the rhetoric of Scientology......It's really not a stretch AT ALL - to look at how ANY Religion thrives from NOTHING in the beginning, then flourishes (through propaganda and control) to captivate millions of people and generational belief systems - no matter how bizarre the original premise may have been and on the matter of questionable methods used to force people to comply - well - Religion as well as Political and other Institutions like Capitalism and Communism ALL have there questionable methods as well as levels of corruption ALSO.
This documentary (for me) was just like looking in the mirror when you are having a "fat day" - you don't necessarily like what is looking back at you.
It's the price WE ALL PAY for being a social creature - to "fit in" to "conform", the majority MUST be manipulated and controlled.
Otherwise we would ALL still be nomads.
Rise (2014)
Cheesy, poorly cast, masquerading as a GOD movie - but I forgive you
I watched this movie with high hopes and anticipation - based solely on reviews garnered here at IMDb.
But these folks reviewing (esp from Melb) have a far LOWER tolerance for what I rate as a great movie. The TRUTH is - this low budget, poorly cast and cheesy scripted attempt is nothing more than BELOW AVERAGE at best.
Apart from Martin Sacks - who carries this movie on his own - and puts together a total believable performance - there is NOTHING really to like (for me anyway).
One of my pet hates in movies, is when the UNDERLYING story has absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie. Just like in this case, masquerading as an evangelical convert to GOD movie. So maybe I can't be 100% impartial here - will you forgive me ?
If the scriptwriters focused more on the dialog and character building aspects of a PRISON MOVIE.......and had actually cast BELIEVABLE characters, then maybe this movie could have been more enjoyable (for me).
So in the end, I found this more than disappointing on so many levels. Cast, acting, dialog and character development.
I was insulted about the religious message - cause if I wanted that in a movie, I would have watched Jesus of Nazareth instead.
Is this the WORST MOVIE EVER ? No it is not. It's just very very average and typical of Australian low budget trash that is not uncommon here in Australia.
will you forgive me also ? Cause I forgive the film makers, after all - IT IS the Christian thing to do.
PS - look out for Marty Rhone - some Aussies will remember his 1970's countdown performances like "Mean Pair of Jeans" - I guarantee you won't recognise him in Rise.....I never did like his music - at that time, the Aussie bands that occupied my speakers were Acca Dacca. Radiators & The Angels
Jack to a King: The Swansea Story (2014)
I loved this - If you like a good story WATCH THIS
Living in Australia, it is virtually impossible not to be some type of sports fan, as sport is so much intertwined with our National Identity (sad , I know, but it is.).
So naturally, I LOVE sports DOCO's. I was hoping this would be entertaining and it is....and more so.
There are no spoilers here and I want to say that before I watched this - I knew absolutely NOTHING about Swansea City FC (I hope I got that right).
This documentary does what great documentaries do - they inform the first time viewer with all the relevant information they will need in order to fully understand the journey that the story wants you to understand.
You don't have to like Swansea, Football or Sport to LOVE this.
If you like an improbable story with Hero's and Villains and a cast of interesting and diverse characters - as well as MAGIC.
Then you should LOVE THIS also
Boyhood (2014)
Lasted 1hr37min12sec & COULD NOT STAND 1 SECOND MORE - Boring and AWFUL
I usually love slow burning character driven movies where the plot moves at a pace that dictates character development and depth.
Then I realised that there was still over 1 HOUR to go.AND NOTHING HAD HAPPENED.......and NOTHING looks like it will happen.
And I don't care what happens. JUST MAKE IT STOP.
So I did......I stopped watching. Now I am relieved.
Because MOMENTS AGO.......I turned into Peter Finch and began raving.
I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take this anymore.
I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take this anymore.
I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take this anymore.
What is the point of this dribble mascaraing as a movie.
I DON'T care what happens to the BOY, the MOM, the SISTER or that DAD.
I am not wasting one more precious second on this meaningless reality fantasy pretending to be interesting or clever or arty.
I HATED THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brothers in War (2014)
Trying to understand WAR
War - is an organized and often prolonged conflict, generally characterized by extreme violence (wiki). I HATE War, I HATE the politics of War, but I understand that sometimes, somethings are worth fighting for. I would NEVER join an army and I would NEVER choose to defend my country, only except if it was getting invaded......and that's it, the only exception.
But I live in Australia, my generation has not experienced WARS (not apart from the token support we give the USA) but the vast majority of Australians born since 1960 have NO IDEA about WARS..and we are not expected to "save the world" like the USA is supposed to....and I have lived all my life WITHOUT knowing WAR......so it is easy for me to have such beliefs.
So I cannot imagine what it is like to be drafted or enlist voluntarily to go fight a war thousands of miles away from home. This documentary gives a first hand account of C Company members that had to do just that.
This is NOT a documentary on the MORALITY of War, but rather, just on WAR itself and those BRAVE enough to have to fight it.
How can ANY WAR documentary really compare to the emotions of those that actually were there ?
This documentary is EXCELLENT and DOES give the viewer just a small (by comparison) but EXTREMELY POWERFUL realistic account of what it is like to have fought in Vietnem......and the stories and experiences of those in C Company surely resonate towards ANY War situation, I would imagine.
Here are some POWERFUL and MOVING quotes from Brothers In War.
You are always angry, you are always scared, because that could have been me instead of him (killed/wounded). and that's the bad thing about mines and booby traps....you suffer and you can't do any harm back against the enemy......and that builds up inside soldiers to a level at which, which something is going happen. - JOHN YOUNG Veteran, Squad Leader, 1st Platoon.
Then all of a sudden I could hear Sgt Benny Bridges choking, strangling on his own blood. So I just held him there.....I couldn't stand to hear him choking......and in a couple of minutes the medics came down and they carried Benny away. They told me later that he died on the medevac flight back to Dongtan.......and the times that I visited the Vietnam Memorial in DC......I always....I always go and find Benny first. It always.....his name always gets to me, because there's just no real reason on earth that I'm standing around looking up at his name and not the other way round. There's just no reason at all. - JOHN YOUNG Veteran, Squad Leader, 1st Platoon.
We are all accustomed to choosing between right and wrong. That's an easy thing for people (non soldiers) to do. War is a terrible thing. It's terrible because not only people get killed. It's terrible because you have to make some kind of decision, and there aren't any good options. You can do something that's cruel and ugly or do something that cruel and uglier still. There's no good option to take ..........and, I'd really rather not have anybody who has not been through something like that, pass judgment on me. Don't be too sure on the decision you would have made.....and don't be smug about your morality until you have had it tested. - JOHN YOUNG Veteran, Squad Leader, 1st Platoon.
Brothers,is exactly the right term. Those guys are everything, just everything to me. It's as plain as that. ---- JOHN YOUNG Veteran, Squad Leader, 1st Platoon.
Full English Breakfast (2014)
LIARS !!!! Don't Believe the Positive Reviews - Movie is VERY BAD !!!!!
This movie is cheap, the acting is poor and the storyline starts kinda OK - but then ends up a FARCICAL JOKE.
Interesting that ALL the positive reviews come from England - the home of this regrettable creation.
This movie is BAD BAD BAD - and THAT IS THE TRUTH.
I only watched this movie due to the positive reviews here at IMDb. So I feel CHEATED and LIED to - the only GOOD THING is that I found this on the INTERNET and did not pay (as you pommy's say) a "penny" to watch it.
The ONLY thing WORSE than this UK disaster - is your CRICKET TEAM - a 5-0 drubbing inflicted by the Aussies on those poor hapless chaps pretending to be a WORLD CLASS CRICKET SIDE. I have only one thing to say - MITCHELL JOHNSON - ha ha ha - .
You might have noticed that I have stopped writing about this film! That's because there is NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT - EXCEPT that it is VERY BAD - just like your cricket team.
Oh, after humiliating the poms - did you hear about the Aussie cricketers then beating the Sth Africans in Sth Africa 2-1.
At least the Sth Africans put up a fight - So what does the English Cricket Team and this English movie have in common - THEY ARE BOTH PATHETIC - if you poms saw the Ashes series defeat of 5-0 then you will know just how BAD this movie really is. - BOTH AWFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!
Real Gangsters (2013)
Complete and utter GARBAGE - watch only if you want to give yourself a LOBOTOMY
I will NOT insult you by providing any spoilers.
After laboring through this tripe, all I can do is to warn you that ANY MOVIE associated with the tawdry skills of Frank D'Angelo MUST BE AVOIDED at all costs.
I cannot begin to tell just how AWFUL this movie truly is Complete and utter GARBAGE - watch only if you want to give yourself a LOBOTOMY.
Frank D'Angelo is THE WORST of the WORST.
I wish to THANK

This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels. Movie sucks on so many levels – dialogue, storytelling, character development, suspense, special effects, originality, punctuation
etcetera etcetera. My guess is that Italians will be insulted with this movie – not over the association with the mafia but the quality (I mean lack thereof) of the movie. If you plan to miss this movie, better miss it quickly; I doubt if it'll be around to miss for long.
HE SUMS THIS UP PERFECTLY
Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary (2012)
Back In Black - Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack (AC/DC)
I'm not a car nut and it is therefore not surprising that I had NEVER heard of a Buick Grand National, until I saw this tasteful tribute to what has to be (or should be) a genuine American Icon.
I wont bore or insult you with details of the car, as the documentary literally leaves no bolt undone and delivers the viewer a thoroughly revealing experience that had me falling in love with something I did not know even existed.
The pace of the documentary is PERFECT. The editing, music and the ability of the film makers to seamlessly blend the many layers (and contradictions)of the multiple story-lines they are telling, literally makes you feel like you are entering some type of Film Nior tragedy full of anti heros that somehow win the day - much to your pleasing.
Yet behind this magic piece of film making - where less is just so much more - there looms the intrepid danger and excitement of the car itself.
....and just like in AC/DC's classic song BACK IN BLACK.
Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack. Yes I am. Forget the hearse cause I'll never die. I got nine lives cat's eyes. Using every one of them and runnin' wild.
Yes I'm back in black.
17 Seconds (2013)
Worst Sports Documentary EVER !!!!!!!!!!!! - & I'm not exaggerating
Look - If you are a Black Hawks fan (oops) I mean SERIOUS HOMER, then maybe, just maybe, you will like this brainless, uninteresting schlock masquerading as a documentary.
Incredibly, there is NOTHING in this documentary - Seriously, there is NOTHING here - no information on the season - the highs the lows the adversity to overcome (if there was any).
You see aprox 1 minute of actual Hockey and of course those 17 seconds.
Then you see 50 minutes of grown men yelling, screaming for joy and trying to describe how good they feel cause they just won the cup.
Really......is that it Yep, that's it.....that's all this piece of garbage has......looks like they had a few morons with mobile phones documenting the "aftermath" and slapped them all together for 1 regrettable hour.
I am a Sports fan and a documentary fan - so when there is a Sports Documentary.......any Sports documentary on ANY subject / sport, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE for me NOT ENJOY.....but I HATED this.
What I am so disappointed about, is that there was absolutely NOTHING to learn or to follow here - other than watching grown men yelling and cheering and holding a cup aloft (alot).
To illustrate my point, I just finished watching Under the Boardwalk: The MONOPOLY Story - which is an average doco - but loaded with plenty of nuggets of info and feel good points of interest to keep the viewer engaged...... unlike 17 seconds
So feeling good and supposedly saving the BEST for LAST .......(now you should whisper this next sentence)...and then I watched 17 seconds immediately after that. :(
BUT 17 seconds leaves me feeling exactly how the Bruins felt - Bewildered.
Just look at the Cover - man in Red jersey with Cup aloft - I still find it impossible to believe that this is EXACTLY what you get for the ENTIRE 53mins.....so I can't accuse them for false advertising (lol)
Sorry Black Hawks - Monopoly just seriously kicked your butt today - and it wasn't even close or dramatic like your Stanley Cup campaign (that this documentary completely IGNORES)
However, If you are a Black Hawks homer, crack open a beer and pour it over your head and yell and scream into your TV. I'm sure you will have a good time with 17 seconds.
As for the rest of us and for your sanity - stay away from this, you have been warned
Vendetta (2013)
awful just awful 0/10
awful just awful 0/10 THIS REVIEW CONTAINS NO SPOILERS - except that the movie itself may spoil your night.
I have seen far better Danny Dyer movies than this but have not seen all of his movies - yet it is hard to fathom that ANY could be WORSE than this.
The movie actually starts out pretty good - but as the onion of the movie starts to peel back the layers - you are left with a plot that is brainless and predicable and cheesy and totally unbelievable - so if you like that sort of dribble, then you'll love this dross
But for me - awful just awful 0/10
Musicwood (2012)
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - George Harrison
Just seeing these ancient and beautiful forests in their natural beauty is both breathtaking and heartbreaking.....learning that 400-500 year old trees are mainly used for "pulp" is devastating I'm not a film critic and this is my first ever review / commentary. I am unapologetic for this being more of a commentary than a review - but I am ANGRY.
I'm also not a "greenie" per say - but like all reasonable people, environmental issues both concern and overwhelm me. However as guitarist I was fascinated by the title and subject matter. From a documentary point of view - I thought the film makers offered a reasonably balanced perspective on what is essentially a "messy business" of trying to balance human needs versus natural resources. However, the film makers FAILED miserably at laying blame at SEALASKA for squandering a precious resource by a handful of GREEDY and INCOMPETENT Native Americans using words like TRADITION and CULTURE to hide their greed and incompetence. As MOST of this precious resource is sold for "pulp" and only a small fraction is used by the guitar manufacturers is hardly touched on.
Just looking at ONE of these amazing trees that is 400+ years old - It is hard to fathom that when thousands and thousands of acres containing these trees have been "clear cut" that the "yield" for SEALASKA shareholders is a meager $4.7million or $235 EACH - this sobering fact is hardly explored by the documentary - NEITHER is the unexplained 7.4million spent on "compensation" for 48 SEALASKA officers, directors and subsidiaries This documentary is supposed to be a "guitar story" and so much of the story centers around the frustrated attempts by Greenpeace to broker negotiations with SEALASKA by using the Guitar Industry as some sort of moral "collateral" is a process that is thought provoking - yet all the while the viewer is eager to simply punch some sense into these idiotic and greedy Native Americans that are hell bent on cutting down each and every tree....with seemingly their ONLY concern is NOT for their natural resource, but rather being able to get MORE free land from the Government, so to allow a further "rape" to continue - is simply bewildering to say the least
You MUST see this documentary, not for the guitars and guitar makers - but to SEE for yourself how beautiful these ancient forests truly are and how a few greedy and incompetent Native Americans - despite the rhetoric - are truly no better than the greedy "white man" after all. Money is the ultimate corrupter - no more so than in the ancient forests of Alaska
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - George Harrison
