Nin x Nin: Ninja Hattori-kun, the Movie (2004)
Manga lover this is "IT" !
What an adaptation! The manga I discovered after, is a real pleasure. The movie is a great adaptation from the story of a clumsy smart ninja kid's initiation to the real thing! The character itself is very lovable and the movie reproduces exactly what we can expect from the manga series. Fun, entertaining and absolutely not pretentious, this the key to enter the Hattory's story. Japanese got it all, humble, simple, smart and efficient... My first experience with this kind of comedy was the best by far. Ashamed of smiling in front of ninja kids 10 (lol), well you'll definitely crack up for something's worth it. Forget everything about Ninja Hong Kong movie for once, and you'll be extremely amazed by such a humble comedy like only Japaneses can make. A must in its kind
Forbidden Warrior (2005)
A good epic tale, clean and soft but not as simple as it looks!
Definitely not a Lord of the ring neither Narnia, but somehow in between. Clearly like a B type TOEI production. If you're looking for a good Asian fighting movie (e.g. Ong Back) to share with friends and some beers... if unless you are pretty naive, you'll be disappointed. But if you are definitely a manga fan, and you have kids around... well you'll have no excuse not to sink into this tale... Although, there is no blood, no strong plot to destroy the earth by cutting heads off and raping whatever moves... the story is still very very dense... full of clichés that's granted but the overall makes it very happening and if you don't have a strong manga culture, you'll need a second sight to get it fully. The directing, the edition, the special effects, the music are very very clean, I insist, it's a clinical work. I am sure Forbidden Warrior will stay in posterity of one the best Asian Epic Family movie of the last years.
