Dahaad (2023)
awesome procedural crime series with deeper societal subtext
Few friends had recommended this and just got to watching this, and it's indeed an excellent show.
Very well made with such a grounded, earthy feel backed by a subdued yet powerful turn by Sonali Sinha. Most of the major characters had interesting independent backstories, and all performances were stellar. Underneath the crime story, the show gently and deftly touches about caste and gender issues which seem to be always lurking across the social fabric.
An intelligent show, which rises about the standard traps and delivers more than a whodunit. Wish the last 2-3 episodes were a little tighter but that's a minor nitpick.
Shakti (1982)
One of the best - ever
Watched this again and it's such a masterpiece. Masterful script and dialog, powerhouse performances, and crisp direction all add up to one of India's finest movies. Ramesh Sippy proved - again - that Sholay was not an accident, and Dilip Kumar's performance reminds us why Amitabh makes the claim that when the history of Indian cinema is written, there will the two eras: Before Dilip Kumar, and After Dilip Kumar.
Sholay (1975)
The mother of all movies
What can be said about Sholay that has not been said. This is a masterclass in direction, script writing and performances.
