Billions: Cannonade (2022)
Billions: Season 6 - A Change of Pace (But Did We Need It?
Alright, look. I'm gonna be real here. I dove headfirst into Billions for Axe. Damian Lewis absolutely crushed that role, and the whole Chuck vs. Axe thing? Pure gold. But then Season 6 hits you like a rogue wave - Axe is gone!
Now, some folks might be hyped for a fresh start. New villain, new power struggle, all that jazz. But for me, it felt like they ripped the heart out of the show. Michael Prince just wasn't the same. Don't get me wrong, Corey Stoll's a great actor, but Prince felt more like a smug advisor than the deliciously ruthless adversary Axe was.
That being said, there were some bright spots. We got to see a different side of Chuck Rhoades, which was interesting. The supporting cast stepped up too, especially Wendy. And hey, a change of pace can be good sometimes, right?
**So, here's the verdict:** If you're craving that classic Chuck vs. Axe smackdown, Season 6 might leave you feeling empty. But if you're open to a new chapter in the Billions story with some strong performances, give it a shot. Just maybe temper your expectations a bit.
Gandeevadhari Arjuna (2023)
Cringe at its best.
In my opinion, it was cringeworthy at its best. The performances of all the actors and actresses fell short, even Nassar, who is typically a decent artist, didn't shine. The storyline itself was weak. A PhD student how is doing PhD on how global warming is happening decided to do research on a company called CNG, apparently this company is the only reason India have carbon waste and other pollutants. The surprising thing about this is she found out about this by visiting some garbage locations and making a vedio vlogs of her own. There is no evidence, I mean the say about some evidence but its not show in the movie nor in the vedio vlogs. The more cring is that the villain is trying to get the vedios because she is trying to submit these vedios into g20 summit with help of a minister. Supposedly, by viewing this girl's vlog, the villain's entire business would crumble, leading to the loss of his license. To retrieve the video, the villain kidnapped his own daughter and blackmailing her grandfather.
Making movies about Agents is a thing nowadays but it would be appreciated if they were grounded in some degree of realism or featured a compelling storyline.
Imagine a multi billionaire villain is chasing behind a PhD student to get some vedios of a her and he is going after a minister to get those vedios. If its about some rare porn vedios as audience we can understand but this is beyond the limits of common audience.
Heart of Stone (2023)
It's just a copy of person of interest, James bond and mission impossible
It took me at least 6 or 7 attempts to finish the movie. Unfortunately, it felt like a mash-up of elements from "Person of Interest," James Bond, and Mission Impossible. Typically, I begin my reviews with the positives, but in this case, I struggled to find any redeeming qualities. Even after completing it, I spent half an hour racking my brain for something positive, but nothing came to mind. The action sequences were well-executed, but most of them felt derivative. The cast left much to be desired, as every actor and actress came across as grating. I generally admire Gal Gadot, but even her performance in this film left me frustrated. Alia Bhatt seemed like a poor choice, delivering a subpar performance. The actress who acted as "The King of Hearts" also fell short in terms of performance. It's disheartening to think that Netflix allocated such a substantial budget to what I perceived as a lackluster film. I implore them to invest in genuine talent rather than enabling just anyone to create or star in a movie, as it risks diluting the quality of the entire film industry.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
An Adventure Worth Embracing, Despite a Few Potholes Along the Way
The movie, in my view, stands as a quality production, and I'm somewhat puzzled by the abundance of negative feedback it has received. The primary drawback, as I perceive it, lies in the lead actress's performance, which regrettably fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, the film's narrative and plot are nothing short of exceptional, and Harrison Ford's portrayal remains remarkable. It's somewhat melancholic to witness Ford aging, but his performance in the film remains a highlight.
In my personal estimation, the movie might have enjoyed greater success at the box office if it had introduced a fresh character rather than continuing the Indiana Jones legacy. It appears that the film has somewhat deviated from the core essence of Indiana Jones, a fact that leaves me somewhat perplexed by the numerous negative reviews it has garnered.
At a runtime of 2 and a half hours, the film can occasionally feel a tad extended, particularly due to the lead actress's lackluster attempt to fill the iconic Indiana Jones shoes.
Overall, I genuinely relished the movie and hold hope for future installments. Perhaps these future films might explore new avenues, potentially without the current lead actress.
Nalla Nilavulla Rathri (2023)
Better name for the movie is oru bomb katha
After watching the movie, I found myself saying, "Enthaappoondaye... enthinna aalukal padakkam pottiche... innu Vishuva!"
The first and second halves of the movie seemed disconnected, and the overall execution could have been better. While the story had potential, it lost its essence on the big screen. If they were planning a sequel, they should have announced it earlier because there are many unresolved questions in the film. Unfortunately, the movie didn't perform well at the box office, so a second part seems unlikely.
On a positive note, the actors, especially Babu Raj, delivered strong performances. However, the fight sequences could have been more engaging, given their importance in the second half. The villains' backstory and motivations were unclear - were they villagers or forest dwellers? Their side of the story seemed to be"Evidenno vannu engotto poyyi..!"
Overall, the film had the potential to be a decent hit with better storytelling, character development, and a more satisfying climax.
Oru Thathvika Avalokanam (2021)
A Must-Watch Feel-Good Political Comedy-Drama!
I began watching this movie after coming across some scenes from it on Facebook. I learned that the director is Akhil Marar, known for "Big Boss." So, I decided to give the movie a shot. The film is truly impressive. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's definitely an above-average movie that is quite underrated. The main reason for the negative reviews seems to be that the story criticizes all the political parties in Kerala, especially the Communist Party. The director uses the movie to express his political views. Instead of viewing it solely as a political drama, consider it as an expression of the frustration of the young generation towards all the political parties that have turned our beloved state into a living hell.
Let's hope that, just like what happens in the movie, our people will start to change and elect deserving individuals rather than blindly voting for party leaders. The movie's production quality is good, and the performances of all the actors are commendable. While the storyline and climax may be somewhat predictable, they are still good. Overall, it's a comedy-political feel-good drama with outstanding performances and solid production. It's definitely worth watching.
Krishnankutty Pani Thudangi (2021)
An Intriguing Plot, Outstanding Performances, but an Unsettling Climax - A Movie of Missed Opportunities
I watched this movie after seeing some scenes on Facebook. The movie's production quality is impressive. I believe that if it had been released in theaters, it could have performed even better, possibly as an above-average movie. The plot is very engaging, and the storytelling is excellent. The performances by all the actors were outstanding. I'm not sure why this film didn't perform well on OTT platforms.
However, the climax of the movie was disappointing. It felt incomplete and unrealistic. The transition from a horror genre to a crime thriller was a fresh and interesting idea, but the execution fell short. The movie's length was excessive, making it difficult for the audience to stay engaged. I believe that with a more realistic climax, it could have been a decent hit.
Guns & Gulaabs (2023)
An Engaging Ride Through 'Guns and Gulabs'
"Guns and Gulabs" is an incredible series that has reignited my enthusiasm for watching shows. While it may not be a masterpiece deserving of an Oscar, it's undeniably fantastic. There were a few moments of lag that briefly deterred my interest, but the thrilling climax more than compensated for it. The performances of the entire cast were exceptional, with each actor outshining the other. However, I must admit that the main character, Tipu, portrayed by Rajkumar Rao, fell short in his emotional scenes. His portrayal of sadness didn't quite resonate, and his crying even came across as somewhat comical. I'm uncertain whether this was intentional. Nevertheless, on the whole, it was a satisfying series.
Por Thozhil (2023)
Best crime thriller of recent times
"Por Thozhil" stands out as one of the finest crime thrillers in recent times. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. However, one aspect that could be improved is the introduction of the fear of darkness in the hero character without sufficient backstory or depiction of his triumph over it. Nevertheless, the overall storyline is exceptional and unique. I highly recommend this film to others and have encouraged my fellow cinemates to watch it.
One of the movie's drawbacks is that the we all know that the apparent killer isn't actually the culprit. The narrative leads us to believe the suspect is guilty due to circumstantial evidence, particularly the eerie coincidence that the killings commence after the suspect's wife's demise. This abundance of coincidences stretches believability, but in general, the film is a decent thriller presented in a distinctive manner.
Spy (2023)
One of the stupidest movie that I seen recently
It's disheartening to witness poorly crafted movies. The film lacks coherence and fails to deliver a meaningful storyline. I believe even an inexperienced person could create a more engaging plot, write better dialogue, and direct improved acting performances. While the hero's portrayal was passable, the heroine's performance was particularly disappointing. On a positive note, the main villain's acting truly stood out and deserves praise.
They attempted to engage the audience with an overly affectionate portrayal of our country, but those scenes felt like they were trying to make a bad movie even worse. After watching the movie, I feel like anyone could join RAW. The most amusing thing is that in the beginning, they tried to present the movie as a realistic RAW agent film, but after watching it, I feel like a RAW agent falling in love with an ISI agent is not a bad plot.
