Al midan (2013)
We are not in search of a leader...we are in search of a conscience."
I am writing this review on the documentary The Square. WHAT AN AMAZING FILM!! I really loved it I think they (Revolutionist) were brave people to fight for their freedom and speak their minds. The camera work was great just everything was very powerful. I feel that it got very intense when I got farther into the documentary and all the more exciting. I really liked it. It also was sad at times but I still loved it. I don't understand why this wasn't more publicly expressed. This should be an important part of history TWO THUMBS UP! Everyone should be required to see this film, this bravery, this story. "We are not in search of a leader...we are in search of a conscience."
Cutie and the Boxer (2013)
Uhhh...
I am writing this review on Cutie And The Boxer. I was surprised. I didn't understand the concept of this documentary. I kind of didn't like it. I thought it was going to be longer or more information about something but no. I mean they were a cute couple I just didn't know what the concept of it was. It wasn't like a boring type of bad it was a
unfinished type of bad. There just should have been more in my opinion. They had wonderful work and sculptures but it looked like an everyday kind of thing for an artist. All artists run into problems every now and then I didn't see what the difference between them was. It didn't show me enough about who they were I feel.
Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013)
Beautiful
I am writing this review on my take on the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom. I enjoyed the movie. I think that for the women who were in the movie to be so talented, and not being able to live their dreams was sad. Some of the parts bored me a little but over all I was surprised and interested at the documentary. I think that a lot of people should see it because it is inspiring. I had always wanted to sing and this movie showed me to go after your dreams. Those girls had unbelievable talent I would love to listen to them sing all day. Some parts of the movie had me thinking about opportunity in general and how even though you may have the talent, you need luck and timing on your side to make it. This is a must see!
The Act of Killing (2012)
Saddening
I am writing a review on the documentary The Act of Killing. To be honest I did not expect to see what I saw. I thought I was going to see mass murderers in the act. But really they were basically repeating what they did in the past. To see them so excited to tell their story of how they killed more than one million "Communist" was sickening. But when Anwar started showing guilt and started realizing what he really did, it was kind of unreal. What I didn't like about the film was that the captions were small and hard to read. But to see Anwar Congo, in those last 5 minutes of the documentary, retching from disgust was at least a little comforting. Because he realized what he did was wrong. He realized that these supposed "Communist" never did anything wrong. He and the rest of the executioners were forced to forget about it all. After 40 years they relive their story... wow is all I can say.
Dirty Wars (2013)
Extraordinary
I am writing this review on the documentary Dirty Wars created by Jeremy Scahill. For me the purpose of this documentary was to show awareness and spread the word about this unbelievable secret group that is killing innocent people for really no reason at all. I did not expect to see that much shocking information about our own US government. Jeremy Scahill did and actually finished what some people couldn't. I was really surprised to see Barack Obama involved with the problem. For the US government to actually kill U.S. CITIZENS was very shocking to me. But overall I really enjoyed the documentary and strongly recommend it for everyone. This documentary is a message everyone needs to see.
