The Godfather (1972)
Part 1
Don't get me wrong, it was good, a pretty damn good film. But I read the book before I saw this film so I felt like the audience got skimped out on a lot of great and important details. And I'm sorry to say but Brando did not give The Don the justice he deserved. In the book The Don is beyond words. And Brando was simply excellent.
Overall though I really dug it, I'm excited to see part 2
Aniara (2018)
Please stop with the sexy time in space!
Directors should really steer clear of so much sex in space. And yes, sex is a great subject. Longing and loneliness and fear in the typical human condition, it's great! But I thought this was suppose to be a badass space movie based on...you know, science!
It Chapter Two (2019)
For the reader!
If you've never read the book, which I imagine more so don't than do, than I'm so sorry but you were incredibly robbed of SO many things. Things as simple as; Bill Denbrough being a strong, level headed (at all times), decision making leader for the Losers, as kid and an adult; Mike almost bleeding to death in the end; Eddie being the one that kills Henry in the hotel room; Henry being spoken too from the moon; Bev always going right along side and never the damsel in distress; It's "actual form"; the way It really gets destroyed (by Bill); Stan committing suicide never getting closure; the timeline; how Eddie broke his arm, his asthma being fake; It taking so many forms that sometimes you forget about the clown; Bill coming up with the Ritual of a Chud (Bill coming up with everything); the way the clubhouse was actually built; the odd orgy; Bev's reason for fear of blood; Bill's wife and Bev's husband following them to Derry... I could keep going but you get the idea.
So, I thought it was entertaining, fun, and extremely cheesy. Which is okay and of course expected from Hollywood. But I must say that the casting was truly great, minus Bill not being bald, ha. But over all it was alright. But If you have the intellect and discipline I highly suggest the book, cause man it's great! It's a novel about everything (kind of like Moby Dick, and yes like it was said in Stuck In Love), and not just a horror book. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Some of the reviews are hilarious
I was going through the reviews randomly one night and saw that someone actually wrote, and I'm paraphrasing here; we see Cage's character drink a fifth of whiskey and then a fifth of vodka? Real alchies don't drink like that, they wouldn't mix.....
That is absolutely HILARIOUS.
This film is miraculous, literally in every way. I have yet to watch any other performance nail addiction, well alcoholism specifically, so absolutely dead on since The Lost Weekend.
If you're not an alcoholic I understand why this film might not be for you and may even seem unreal. But drinking "a" fifth is a seriously comedic notion.
Much love dudes.
Life Itself (2018)
I really hate the title
So, the beginning is kinda funny, the surprise Isaac's character gives us is pretty good but from then on it's just too damn dramatic. And the ending where the woman is speaking on her death bed, for some reason in broken English though through the entire movie she speaks in Spanish, is just awful. So SO awful. It hurt to watch, I was even uncomfortable and embarrassed for how incredibly lame her speech was. I mean it was BAD dude.
Bird Box (2018)
Of course there is hype about this movie
This movie had a good "story" as in the ideas for it were pretty good. Such as those freaks being the only ones that can see whatever it is that's causing everyone else to commit suicide. But it's too cheesy in the grand scheme of things. And just by saying that; of course there is hype about it. The gerneral audience loves these kinds of movies. If it was more intricate and serious it wouldn't have had such commercial appeal and would have brought upon a smaller audience. Damn good movies are for underground water cooler talk, or for years after the movie was released. And no, not ALL the time. But over all, I give this movie a nice try.
Interiors (1978)
A more serious side to an Allen film
I first came to know Allen as a comedian. Everything I've seen by him until this point, this was the 21st, were comedy/drama or simply comedy. And what's great is he has given this kind of situation(s) to a much less dramatic, more darkly comedic bunch in his other films and ends up conceiving such an accurate perception of things as he has done so again here. Not a joke was cracked and I loved that because most people I've come across in similar siutuations end up eating drama for breakfast. A soIid take on the other side. I again applaud to Woody, well done.
Beautiful Boy (2018)
Far from Tweak
First I'll say that Timothee did a pretty damn good job. Now the movie/story; I think it was inaccurate to say it was also based on Tweak, because it wasn't! Maybe a sentence or 2 of Tweak was in it here and there but it was highly based on David (Beautiful Boy) rather than Nic(Tweak). The movie seems to really ask for the audiences sympathy, where in Tweak Nic doesn't, more so just shares his story as an addict straightforward and raw. Definitely worth checking out, though I did hope for it to have been less fluffy.
