The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005)
ridiculously horrid...don't walk, run away from this movie
What they should have done is make the sequel to the first crow movie a female lead instead of another male lead. I've been waiting for a female lead crow ever since the first movie. But they keep putting out more and more of the same thing. Variety people! This series has gone stale since the first crow movie. The crap keeps piling higher and higher with every sequel. Don't get me wrong, I love the crow graphic novel. Hell, make a crow one remake if you have to, but please stop putting out another pointless crow movie.
I keep watching just to be proved wrong but each new sequel just adds another nail to the crow franchise (similar to the hellraiser franchise except I actually liked the first three HR movies; the rest should not have been made period).
The studio is going to milk this franchise until the utters are no longer milk-able. That could take years. The body count will continue to rise as more and more people get sick and tired of the same old crappy-crow sequels repacked with different characters.
My favorite movies ruined by franchises -- HellRaiser (HR 4 killed it for me), Batman (Batman Forever killed this one; Batman & Robin sealed the coffin; Batman Begins has re-sparked the series), Crow (part 2 killed it for me), American Psycho (part 2 killed it; if I ignore part 2 ever exists, all is fine), Star Trek (loved part 7 Generations and 8 First Contact; part 9 Insurrection killed it for me, part 10 Nemesis added the dirt onto the ST grave), Matrix (part 2 ended this series for me), DareDevil (Elektra killed it), and Superman (part 3 did me in; part 4 was a joke; Superman Returns look promising).
The only remaining movies that haven't been ruined (yet) are Night Breed, American History X, Fight Club, Lord of the Rings (all 3), Spider-man (all 2), and X-men (all 2).
That's all I can recall right now.
Surplus: Terrorized Into Being Consumers (2003)
more annoying than good...
Yes, it tries to deliver its message of anti-capitalism. But it does it by repeating scenes over and over again (it makes you wonder if they didn't film enough or had to pad the movie to extend it's run time because of a lack of money/footage or both). It feels more like the film is trying to force its message onto you until you say uncle.
Most of the scenes are un-narrated (and un-translated). This leaves the viewer lost and confused. Huh? What do these people in this segment have to do with anti-capitalism? The transitions between scenes could use some help here. The editing is horrible. The film goes from one scene to the next without any sort of explanation to the viewer. Okay, there are people rioting. Um, what is it that they're rioting over? Why are they rioting? In the end, the film's message of anti-capitalism is cluttered/muddled because of bad film editing/direction. The reason is never backed up by any sort of substance or fact. Thus, it makes this movie appear more like a propaganda film than a documentary about anti-capitalism.
It's awful. Don't waste your time on this film. Go watch the corporation documentary; it's much more informative and well made. I only give it a 3 because it is somewhat thought provoking (if you can get over the constant repeated scenes and repeated dialogues).
