Martyrs (2008)
Wow
I've been watching horror movies since I was 6 years old. By this point, it's incredibly rare that a movie will get the slightest jump scare out of me. It's even more rare that a movie will make me cringe because it's so twisted and disgusting. I've just been desensitized after 25 years, at least, that's what I thought.
This movie comes in waves like a hallucinogenic trip. Let me break it down without giving to much away.
0:00-15:00 what the hell was that?
15:00-25:00 wow! Alright! Let's go!
25:00-50:00 consistent, singular eyebrow raise. Very intriguing.
50:00-70:00 cringe....squirm...holy funkn spit....
70:00-85:00 nonstop torture. No dramatic cut aways or edgy music. Just....pain. Very uncomfortable to watch.
85:00-end ......what the skunk did I just expose myself to?
Soooo ya. Take that, and decide if you want to watch it or not. Honestly, I can't recommend it. A good 30% (at least) is just very hard to watch torture.
The Wendigo (2022)
Worth an hour of your time.
Is it the best movie I've ever seen? Not by a long shot. But it's also not the worst. You can pretty much guess what's going to happen after the first 5 minutes. That being said, I enjoyed it.
It's a found footage film about a haunting in the woods. Doesn't leave much to the imagination. Just don't go into it expecting much. It's a movie that my buddies and I (with ZERO film directing or acting experience) probably could've shot on our phones. Shaky POV camera and the acting isn't much better.
Now, with all that being said, I still enjoyed it. I think they were smart to keep it short. If you're looking for something new to kill an hour, I'd definitely say it's worth a watch.
Manson Family Vacation (2015)
Wasted
This had so much potential. I spent the first 45 minutes really interested. Was thinking it was going to turn out pretty wild. The next half hour I was thinking man, feel like I've been watching this for quite a while, but nothing's really happened. 9 minutes later, it was over.
I don't know who gave this the OK once they finished, but that person needs to be fired.
Dear Mr. Gacy (2010)
Hate to be that guy, but read the book.
I picked up the book and couldn't put it down until 2 days later when I finished it. I was stoked when I found out there was a movie that's (loosely) based off the book. If you're a reader at all, get the book. The intensity of it is unbelievable. The movie was....eh. They just didn't capture the insanity in Gacy and how badly he got into this kids head. If you're not into books, it's a decent movie I guess. But do yourself a favor and get the book.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Holds up with the rest, but it's not the best
It was pretty good. If you like the Saw series, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A tad predictable, and doesn't really follow the story of the rest of them. Still enjoyed it though.
Living & Dying (2007)
Better than people make it out to be.
Is this the best movie I've ever seen? No. Not by a longshot. Though, I think people are being way to harsh. It's clearly a fairly low budget movie. If you have Michael Madsen without Tarantino, then how good did you really expect it to be? If you've got 90 minutes to kill, I say it's definitely worth the watch. It's on YouTube right now for free so what have you got to lose?
