Babylon 5 (1993)
An epic, as yet unmatched.
Babylon 5 may look dated, but, it's plot and character progression are second to none. This is an epic story, it is a great ensemble and I still am enjoying watching it again in 2020. Do yourself a favour, watch it and enjoy!
The Witcher (2019)
Great show and crew
Henry Cavill IS Geralt of Rivia, he has nailed it. It's not a perfect show, no such thing, but it is very entertaining. The whole cast has done a fantastic job with their characters.
Fights are the best I've ever seen on film and they don't skimp on brutality.
If you hate fantasy, skip this show, otherwise get ready for a hell of a ride.....hmmm.
PS: I love Jaskier/Dandelion (the bard), perfect casting.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Wow, just wow.
The first season finds it's legs fairly quickly, though far from perfect. Season 2 is mindblowingly good. It's the dialogue, the wit, the character development and interaction that is near perfect.
Buffy, in my humble opinion, is a worthy successor to Ripley, as a badass female lead that EVERYONE loves. Is there some bad, of course, as with all TV and film. It doesn't matter because the overall story is beautiful, anger inducing, funny, scary, deep, romantic, etc.
Everything that can be said has already been said, but why do I love Buffy and the gang? They're all flawed, no perfect heroes here, just people with doubt, hopes and fears, and that's where this shines. We get to see all of the characters grow, stumble and do what they must despite all their hangups, doubts and shortcomings.
10/10 from me.
Prehistoric Park (2006)
Brilliant
Inaccuracies....obviously, we learn more every year and correct older concepts. Does it have a Jurassic park budget.....no. But, is it entertaining, fairly well acted and filmed, absolutely. The best thing about this is the imagination used. If you're a grown up (mentally), this will probably not please you. If, however, you retain a bit of childlike wonder, then I think you'll love this.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2019)
We need more
Watched the original with my children, loved it. I was dubious about this continuation, it's not a reboot, but my fears have been allayed. This series is not perfect, but hell, what is? If you want fun, frights and decent acting, then you should enjoy this.
The Princess Bride (1987)
Simply one of the best!
This movie has everything, giants, villains, true love, monsters, swords, fantasy, miracle workers, etc.
Beautifully written and directed, this is Rob Reiner's masterpiece! Mandy Patinkin is brilliant and this is Cary Elwes at his finest. also a fitting end to Andre the giants career. Chris Sarandon steals every scene he is in and does it with style.
Watch this and experience what true filmaking is all about.
I have nothing negative to say about this film, if any youth or boyhood dreams remain within you, then you will love this.
Hello, my name is Inigo Montaya, you killed my father, prepare to die!
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
One of the best movies ever
The title sounds biased, right? Wrong.....I didn't really get into Tarantino or Rodriguez until I watched this film.
Watching it for the first time??? I envy you, this had the shock value of 'Planet of the apes', the original. The script was sharp, disturbing and funny. The characters were sometimes one dimensional, but hey, who cares.
This was also my first time seeing Salma Hayek, what a debut!!! Also, this is where I became a Clooney fan.
Forget all the bad reviews, movies are about escapism and this one delivers! One final word, hail Sex Machine (you'll get it once you've watched it).
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (1993)
Brilliant fun
A perfect example of a one season show. It was funny, well acted and the plot, though flawed (which one isn't?), were weird and engaging!
Bruce Campbell is brilliant as Briscoe, though Billy Drago steals most scenes he appears in. The supporting cast is excellent, from Bowler to Socrates.
This is a sci-fi, fantasy western with old time serial style cliffhangers. If fun is your forte, then this show is a must see. If, however, absolutely everything must make sense, then avoid this. It is chaos incarnate and one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen. Oh, did I forget to mention......time travel!!! Find out for yourselves. 9/10 for Briscoe!
