Snatch (2000)
Guy Ritchie...is the man
From the beginning, you say (if you have at least a modest cinematographic culture): Guy Ritchie! It's an extraordinary comedy placed in the world of little mobsters. These men count their bread money in thousands of pounds...the real mobsters count them in millions of dollars. The movie it's a beautiful diamond jewel. It's a "what you don't want to happen, will happen" movie. That's why Guy Ritchie or Tarantino movies are shocking in a very entertaining manner.
The central reason of the movie is a very big diamond. And where is a diamond there always will be the greed. This is why the action goes crazy and links every character to this diamond. I won't tell you the action because I want you to watch this movie.
Brad Pitt is a master at being an English gypsy. When you hear him speak...laugh and laugh...he is unbelievably funny. And that punch he can throw...wow! K.O. in the first punch, no exceptions.
The other actors are perfect for their roles. They all have those criminal faces to scare any grown man.
It's not an educational movie. You can learn nothing from this movie...well almost noting (you learn that a desert eagle shot can penetrate a thin wall, a pig eats anything if he is hungry and you can live through a head shot). It's pure entertainment!
Anyone who thinks he has a strong cinematographic culture must have seen this movie. It's a must see movie!!!
The Grudge (2004)
Crrrrrrrrrrrr..............
This is the second best horror movie ever made (to see the first you can look for my comments). It's a movie about an old saying that says when someone is killed in anger a curse is born in that place. And anyone who approaches the place will be killed by the anger of the murderer. The movie is fantastic. It doesn't have any monsters but it has a little kid, a half cut mother and a strong father. Picture the boy in a blueish tan and black make-up eyes staring at you with those big eyes; the mother getting down the stairs on her hands because she doesn't have a lower body, covered in blood; the father jumping at you to drown you into a black water bath tub. And add to that the horrified faces of the people getting into that house. The scene with the death of the two new residents of the house is horrifying. That's horror for you!
I really can't say anything about the actors, but they scared me and that's a mission completed.
A special + in this movie is the sound the mother does. That Crrrrr...or Arrrrr...is unbelievable freaky. A big +. Ohh...what is that blue and wet ghost doing in this movie. It seems that Japanesse directors like to have something very outta-here (Earth) in their movies. See The Ring 2.
Excellent finally! Bravo!
Chasing Liberty (2004)
Beautiful
This is really a beautiful movie. It has that something that reminds you of love. It has the "cover" of another teen love movie, but the "middle" is what makes it special. This is not a first sight love movie. The love comes in time like in real life.
Anna Foster is the United States president's daughter. And of course she has a very controlled life. And like any teenager wants to feel something new: freedom (liberty). She escapes her father's bodyguards with a guy that is part of the secret service...but Mandy doesn't know! They travel throw Europe to get to the Berlin Love Parade, and Anna falls in love with the secret service guy. They live a short love story until Berlin, where Anna discovers who her love really is. They stay separated for a while (1 year) when she transfers from her American university to an English one. In the meantime he was working in a London theater after quitting his special service job. The meeting is full of love and, after a while, kissing :).
Mandy Moore is my favorite actress. She has that child innocence in her eyes. She can make you cry with one look, and make you smile with another look. She is amazing and by far the most beautiful actress in Hollywood (my opinion). She was made to play these love stories.
Watch the movie because you will find love, for those who never felt it, regain faith in love for those with a broken heart and you will be more optimistic, for those in love :).
Think happy thoughts.
Saw (2004)
Best thriller ever...
Best thriller ever! No thriller can compare with this one. Everything links in the end in a beautiful conspiracy to learn man to appreciate what they have. The "killer" (he never killed anyone with his bare hands or a gun from his hands) puts the victims in very delicate situations. The victims are not "angels", they all are guilty of various sins. The killer kidnaps them and when they wake up they find themselves in a adrenaline rushing situation. They all get a tape that tells them their faith. This is the most important choice in their entire life. Whether to live another few hours or to live forever (untill their time is up), because in comparison with the few hours in captivity they have, any second outside is an eternity. The missions they have to complete are very hard and they change your perspective on everything about life. The propose is to make you appreciate what you already have (family, life,...).
The killer himself is a dieing man. He has cancer and he is very tired of the people unappreciative for what they have, always running like hypnotized creatures after more and more, always complaining about something in their life. The killer wakes them up with a very cold and life threatening shower. The killer's plans are perfect. No one was able to catch him or to see his face (no one still alive). He makes a mistake but he is to well prepared for everything.
The actors are amazing giving that psycho feeling to the movie. The film ends beautifully. Until the end you don't know who the killer is, but you have a man with a gun ready to shot everyone, so you think that's the killer. But in the end you realize that everyone is a puppet for the real mastermind.
See this movie! It's worth it. Ohhhh...and please be found of what you have...Wake up!
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
Laugh with tears
An excellent black comedy. But it has a very important Jim Carey touch. The intrigue is the death of the three children's parents. From here on the action starts. Count Olaf (Jim Carey :)))))))) takes the children into his custody only to kill them so he can be the only owner of the Baudelaire's treasure (fortune). He takes the look of various characters just to approach the kids after he is discovered to have put the kids in danger. He than finds out that the kids need to be alive because the fortune will go to the girls husband. So he changes tactics and wants to marry the girl in a very good orchestrated play. But of course he doesn't counts the "special powers" the kids have. Emily, if she puts her black ribbon on, invents very fast anything they need to pass every obstacle. Liam read all his life books and he can read them very (very very) fast and the good news is that he can remember every word he read. Little Sunny can bite...yes thats her specialty; she can bite harder than a Nile crocodile, or a jaguar (is the most powerful feline in the world judging by the power to weight ratio).
Jim Carey is Jim Carey. Excelente!!!
A plus to this movie is Emily Jane Browning. The 17 year old girl is very beautiful. I don't know what's with Australia but it gives us only "screen pearls". It's a pleasure watching Nicole or Kylie (and others) and now we have a new doll in the TV (or big screen or monitor) called Emily Jane Browning. Hope to see you soon girl.
The movie also has lessons for the society. It's like a Caragiale text (romanian theater writer) that underlines the bad things in any society. And the best lesson is that people can't see the evil because they don't listen to what others have to say. We never listen to all the sides in a conflict. We think that if they won they must be right. Very wrong!
In general this is an excellent movie to watch, to laugh and learn something from it too.
Only one -. It doesn't have any scenes that were taken out at cutting. I was used with this in any Jim Carey movie but...not now. Why? Don't tell me they didn't have any fun...:)))
That's all!
The Ring (2002)
The best horror movie ever!!!
This is the best horror movie of all time. I mean there's something very hair raising about a little girl who walks limping toward you. I don't mean this in a ironic way. That girl put me under the blanket many times. And that happened when I wasn't watching the movie. I saw the movie 9 times and I know it like I know my pockets. I am very found of horror movies and then, in 2002, there wasn't any good horror movie on the market. I hate monster horror movies like vampire movies or other mystical creature movie. I heard of The Ring and I said: "Lets see what they can do now!". I took 2 friends and started the movie. From the first scene, there is not one minute when you can rest and not being in constant fear that something bad will happen, and that's great. That's how a horror movie should be. Naomi Watts is excellent (actress and woman), she gives you the filling that she's doing this to save you, because you saw the tape to and in the same time as she. David Dorfman...made my eyes leak when he said "mummy, she never sleeps!"; so an A+ for David. Brian Cox brings the mystery surrounding Samara. Daveigh Chase (my favorite U15 actress) makes this a very spooky movie. Whenever she appears the screen, my skin goes crazy. She's so spooky and scary that no one can stay undistracted. All the actors are excellent even if I don't mention them because this is a comment and not the story of the movie.
Oh, I almost forgot about Mr. Gore Verbinski. He is one of the best directors in Hollywood. Thankyou very much Mr. Verbinski for what you've done with an overused Japanese myth.
Thankyou DreamWorks! Keep it up!
B.D. în alertã (1971)
An excellent Romanian comedy! They don't do them like they used to...
The movie is about the Miscellanious Brigade of the Bucharest Police and their extraordinary cases that they end up solving. All their cases start like a real misc. case (a dog was stolen, someone didn't pay after spending a week at a Moldavian monastery, and so on and so on...)but they end up solving a real complicated case (smugling drugs in the country, stealing expensive masterpieces and selling them abroad, etc.). And all this is done in a very comic atmosphere, using the best actors Romania ever had. The trio Dem Radulescu (decesed), Puiu Calinescu (decesed) and Jean Constantin (alive) makes you laugh with tears in your eyes, because of the situations they get mixed up in :))). Toma Caragiu (decesed) plays a very serious role, but that's what makes the movie more fun. These four along with the other actors build up the best Romanian trilogy comedy of all times. Yes it's a trilogy. Every episode has 2 parts. Episode I: At the MegaStore and The Mimic Professor; Episode II: Janne Doe and Short-Term Widows; Episode III: Drugs for Grandma and The Wonder Icon.
The action takes place in Bucharest (first two episodes) and on the sea side and in the mountains (the last episode).
That's about all I can say about this movie because the best way to rate a movie is to watch it. It's a Romanian-humor movie so if any of you foreign movie lovers puts his/her hand on this movie, please have a good subtitle or learn Romanian (it's worth it).
Sorry about my spelling but I know better how to speak English than to write it.
