Imaginary (2024)
Underrated
I think people rate horror movies thinking they are supposed to be Oscars nominees.
So the story isn't spectacular, true, but a scary movie is supposed to scare the audience and that's all it should really be expected, and I think this movie had a fair share of scary scenes (and I've seen many many horror movies). I would even go as far and say it was the scariest movie I've seen in 2024 so far. Lately I've hardly reacted to jump scares in movies, but this one got me somehow.
Horror movies have been getting worse and worse ratings on IMDb the past few years, and some of them are way scarier than older better rated movies. People are getting too demanding ahah
In my opinion, as a horror movie, it's underrated.
Candyman (2021)
Horror movie?? Boring
Good start, but quickly got boring.
I thought horror movies were supposed to be scary, not racist...
The whole thing is just an attack on white people, and that is so obvious that the movie loses all the suspense and horror. They show white people, you already know they're going to die (even if they didn't say his name...), that's it, that's the whole movie.
But when I saw Jordan Peele wrote this, I was already expecting racism to be the main theme of the movie anyway... Next time you make a racist horror movie, at least make it scary too, not boring. 1/10.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
It's okay
Every time they mispronounce "Lágrimas de Cristal" my Portuguese heart aches a bit. I mean considering that is the Portuguese word they say the most in the movie they could have tried to pronounce Lágrimas better. The visuals are nice, the story is mediocre and Emily Blunt did a good job as always.
Deadly Class: Saudade (2019)
"Saudade"
"Saudade", a Portuguese word that represents the feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia, missing someone or something deeply. In this episode Marcus talks about missing his parents and missing home. "Saudade" is the perfect title for this episode, great choice!
Fatherhood (2021)
Mediocre
The ignorance of the main character towards the medical field and profession was the one of the lowest points of the movie. Lack of realism as well when it comes to the several correct things that can be done when a baby is crying (but this part most movies get wrong). So this movie is not really a big comedy (laughed with only a few lines) and doesn't really teach you anything either, so overall is just mediocre. The only part I found particular good was how they focused on his grief and love for his wife, Hart did a good job manifesting the character's pain, in my opinion.
The Unholy (2021)
Good, not as a horror movie, but sth to think about
It's not a very scary movie, but it does have a few jump scares. As catholic (and Portuguese, born near Fatima, mentioned several times in the movie) there is an interesting concept that is explored, behind all the fantasy and scary monsters, of course. It's a decent movie, good acting, decent writing, but not for everyone, some may find it boring, although I enjoyed it. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Diogo Morgado both did a great job. 7/10.
Elite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe (2021)
Drugging people without their knowledge
Amazing message, no doubt. I think the show producers think their show is cooler if they have all the kids in it doing drugs (after last season when a character almost died because of it). To me they just look like a bunch of dumb asses. But yeah kids, drug your "friends" without them knowing, great life lesson indeed...
It looked like they wanted to do something, but not interfere too much with the main story so they came up with this random thing where nothing interesting happens. This is my opinion of course, I'm a big fan of the show, but this was pretty horrible (I mean the story, not the actors, they did well as always)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Yes I liked it
God forbid if there is a movie that is more than just huge muscled guys punching each other in the face, a movie that has more meaning and a better message than "violence is fun"...
Not a popular opinion, I know, but I stand by it.
(But putting this movie at a 5.5 star level is just absurd, compared to all the real crap out there that actually deserves it).
Plus Gal Gadot looks absolutely gorgeous!
Reprisal (2019)
Quite the surprise!!
Honestly this isn't usually my type of show, so I wasn't expecting to get too interested in the story...
BUT I ended up binge watching it in two days!
I was immediately attached to the storyline, I really wanted to see the main character get her revenge considering what her brother did to her was horrendous and she deserved a proper comeback which made wanna keep on watching! I liked the fact that not everything went exactly has planned (the ups and downs of their plan made it more interesting and slightly less predictable), the characters also change throughout the season depending on the things they went through, so there's a good character development. Also you really learn to like all the little separate stories with each group of characters and not just the main story causing you to kinda go through a whole set of different feelings and emotions (and not just simply aggressive non stop violence with no context).
OVERALL REALLY LIKED IT!! The last episode really makes ya wanna keep watching, so HOPE THERE IS A 2ND SEASON!!
Grey's Anatomy: My Shot (2019)
This is WHY I LOVE this show
This episode just reminded me why I became a Medical Student!! Meredith HELPS! She is amazing! Definitely one of my favorite episodes ever. Also incredible script!
The Morning Show (2019)
Fierce women!!
Phenomenal show!! Fierce women who weren't given the power they deserve, so they had to take it! Love it! Absolutely brilliant this show! Amazing cast and script! Definitely 10 stars!
Dickinson (2019)
Wow!!
Just watched the first two episodes and I cannot wait to see what is going to follow up these two amazing eps!!
This show really brings out your feminist side and reminds women (and men!) of the fact that it is time to change the reality that we live in and make today's and future society better, where there's equality of rights and respect for others!
Love it!! So happy about a second season!!
Also congrats to the cast, great work!
Legacies (2018)
Actually kind of good!
Some people are saying that after watching The Originals (which I did), Legacies can be a disappointment because it isn't as grown up as The Originals, and it's true, it's not as mature, but it's also expected considering these are the kids of the characters in TVD and TO! So with that in mind (and not forgetting this is a vampire/witch/werewolf teen show), I actually like it! Not sure exactly why, specially because I'm kind of tired of teen shows... but somehow it has kept me interested in the story and the characters. I think it has potential to be better, the script isn't bad (compared to some new shows out there...), the acting is pretty good (considering they're all starting out), the characters are reasonably tridimensional and overall it's enjoyable to watch!
Euphoria (2019)
Today's Generation??
When i first start watching this show i thought this was going to be about how they all learn from their mistakes and become better versions of themselves towards the end of the season, but no... its just a bunch of teens who seem like their main goal in life is to do as many dumb and impulsive decisions they possibly can during the 4 brief years of high school.
Rue's story actually was pretty good, you can kinda see that she wants to get better and the guy who helps her gives some smart advice.
And I have to mention the great thing (probably the only) about the show is the unique way of filming, visually it looks stunning and very different from any other show i've seen.
One thing I don't understand is how the cast mentions several times that these characters represent real life and today's generation... What?? Soooo what happened in ep 3 (by far the most disturbing episode i've ever seen in a teens show) is a common thing in your nearby high school?? okay... Telling teens that this is what is normal nowadays reeeally seems like an amazing lesson... And Jules who, even tho everyone knows that she's a transgender and no one cares or ever discriminates her for that, still claims that the only way for her to have a "relationship" is by meeting weird dudes at night in the middle of nowhere in literally the most insane town ever! (Another smart idea!)
Also, honestly, in real life i'm pretty sure usually its not the drug dealer who helps you stop using drugs, but what do I know... This should happen more often!
Nate's story is so crazy that i don't even have patience to go there, I mean the part where his dad does what he does and for that reason Nate has his (HUGE) flaws too, this is very common but still not justifiable!
I don't know, maybe is because neither I nor any of the people i know can relate to these characters (except for the more normal teen stuff). And the usage of drugs is kind of romanticised by other characters, who, even after they heard what happened to Rue, still do drugs and take stuff they have no idea what it does to them. I just hope season 2 is more about getting your life together and start making some smarter choices because high school is nothing compared to the rest of your life where all the actually important stuff happens! So don't screw it all up because of a "I am an Independent REBEL" phase!
Why Women Kill (2019)
Fantastic
This show is simply fantastic! The more episodes you watch the more attached to the characters you get and it becomes impossible not to want to watch the next episode!
The several messages and life lessons that are shown in these episodes are extremely important and realistic.
They approach important matters seriously but don't leave out a great sense of humor that breaks the tension making it even funnier!
10 Stars to "Why Women Kill"! Hope there's a second season!
