The Last Airbender (2010)
Mrgrgr...
There are 3 things that I have found truly and utterly deserving of my endless amounts of hate. Naruto Shippuden, DmC Devil may Cry and this f***ing movie. Try to envision how I experienced this movie, I paid $12.50 for a ticket to watch this movie and saw it with 3 of my friends...in the front fladoodling row (cuz every other fraggle-rocking seat was taken). So ya this movie had already left a bad taste in my mouth before it even actually played. Truth be told I didn't expect it to follow every single detail the story of the first season (or book as it's referred to in the show) but goddamn it goes beyond that. The characters are portrayed the exact opposite from the show, missed quite a few plot crucial moments, the effects are laughable (the only thing people can give this turd praise for), the choreography is like something out of a parody music video, the humor is nonexistent, and finally the climax blows. I can't believe how badly botched this adaptation is, my god the video games are more faithful than this sh**. To finally put a nail on this coffin, they didn't have King Bumi (a character who is actually far more important than he's given credit for and is funny as all hell).
Dejimon Teimâzu (2001)
In many ways it's better than the 1st season...
but it never be regarded as the original. The first season was an excellent anime even in spite of it's glaring dub-related flaws. With the 3rd season we definitely got something much darker, more interesting, and overall much more effective by comparison to the first season. This time around the kids aren't referred to as digidestined but rather tamers (there is a considerable difference but the sad truth is both terms are used interchangeably) so there is no absolutes about Takato, Henry, and Rika saving the digital world with their digimon partners. The antagonists this time around are actually much more complex by comparison to the original in that they're not necessarily evil or out to rule world (human or digital) but all them are actually misguided (especially so with the final villain which I dare not spoil). Truth be told this season broke away from a few conventions of the series present in the 1st and 2nd season but more or less for the better. Of all the 5 seasons Digimon I've watched this is best of them (with only season 1 and 4 being very very close). Go check it if you deem yourself a fan of Mon series.
Digimon: Digital Monsters (1999)
I'd be lying if I said it was the best but...
It's a damn good anime. The main characters all have certain charm to them and there's never a dull moment in this show. Admittedly the dub is heavily flawed but with that said I still like it (though I would suggest watching the 2 part finale in the original Japanese with subtitles). Also I get sick and tired of all those ****sticks that keep saying it's a Pokemon ripoff but if you actually take the time to watch it, it would clear as day that it is not. Pokemon may have the better games but Digimon is by far the better anime. Anyhow, this show has something for everyone from a great adventure to short yet enjoyable fights to the excellent character development. If you're an anime or mon fan (or both) then watch it, you won't be disappointed.
Gantz (2004)
Weird...
It's just weird. I almost can't even put into words how weird it is. Dying, aliens, a f***ing computer that I think is suppose to be Satan. I'll be honest I couldn't understand anything about this anime from beginning to end. In any case it's just one big mind**** after the another. I'd be lying if I didn't say I kind liked some the concepts they use with this anime like collecting a certain number of points to finally escape hell(?) Something about the weapons they use are kinda funny (Though I'd say that's because of their inconsistent nature). To top it all off the aliens are all funky looking and are not always exactly as they appear, a nice little touch (but it doesn't save this anime from the score I give it).
Overall 5/10. Strangely Average...try figuring that one out.
Arcade Gamer Fubuki (2002)
Complete and utter strangeness yet...
I like it. I know it's full of under aged fanservice, but I tend to ignore it. It's definitely a show You'd have to just turn brain off to enjoy. The referential humor for the most part works and when it doesn't, it's not too bad. Though I gotta say Fubuki does a lot of cheating (though I blame her friend who's name I forgot). Maybe one day there will be another anime that uses the same concept as this one (hopefully with less 12 year old panties). My favorite character is Mr. Mystery just because of his silly antics and the odd ways he pushes the story forward. If you need a good laugh without too much story then I recommend Arcade Gamer Fubuki.
Mashuranbo (2000)
Damn good show...
Pretty much what a condensed version of the Dragon Ball series would be like with better story telling and characters that are marginally more interesting. I'd dare not to spoil away the goodness that this anime .What is it about most bad anime not being short enough or most good anime not being a little bit longer (or at least not ending on a cliff hanger)? Yakumo while at times can be annoying is a very endearing character and helps to push the others forward in spite of all odds. Mushra, Saago, and Kutal being the fighters on the good side all compliment each other yet they also have differences which they gradually overcome. This show has very few moments of humor (though there is one episode seemingly centered around humor), they all definitely hit the mark. Overall an excellent show to get into and it never overstays it's welcome but isn't too short. Give it a watch if you call yourself an anime fan.
Makai senki disgaea (2006)
It's good, but...
It's no substitute for the game. Granted it doesn't do an exact retelling of the game and thankfully doesn't require that you play the game to understand the anime. There are numerous changes between the game and the anime but I won't list them because this review would go on for too long like my other reviews.
If you haven't played the game, I'd highly recommend that you do. I have played 3 out of the 5 main Disgaea games and all of them are excellent for those who like really complex RPGs.
Hopefully they'll make an anime that's a complete retelling of the games (humor and all)
DmC: Devil May Cry (2013)
Oh boy
For the longest time I've hated this game (as I've hated this game ever since the 2010 trailer up to now). My hatred may seem irrational (and I won't lie, it somewhat is) but I do have legitimate reasons to hate it. I have played the demo and saw videos of the full game (which all it is is an extended version of the demo, the only real difference is a few additional and negligible weapons) 1. The story is god awful and full of holes (And this is all coming from the guy who said he would create a video game story that could rival Hollywood movies, disregarding the fact that video game stories already have done that in the past) and pretty much all the characters are outright unlikeable. 2. While on a surface level the control scheme is the same, there are notable changes that are just f***ing terrible. I mean why the hell do I have to hold down the shoulder button to switch stances? Enjoy your carpal tunnel by the way Why are there two dodge buttons? Why is there no manual lock-on button? Also devil trigger is not it's own dedicated button? If you're playing this game after having beaten all four of the original Devil May Cry games, this is utterly jarring and in general is bad game design. 3. The washed out colors of the environments is a real eyesore and I have to look away from the screen every 15 minutes and the unreal engine looks utterly terrible in this game (I mean like even worse than usual, most other games tend to have passable visuals using the UE), stick to the MT Framework Capcom. 4. Color Coded enemies. WTF IS THIS!? I've come across a hack n' slash game that basically makes half your arsenal useless against certain enemies. Who's F***ing idea was this? 5. Tameem and his wretched f***ing PR. How does this dibs*** still have a job after having made 4 games, none of which have broke even? The more I have to think about it the more it pisses me off. 6. The fans. It's OK to like this game, that's your opinion but when you tell me to my face to go f*** myself for saying I like the previous games a million times more that's where I have to draw the line. It's already hard to believe people believe this better than either DMC1, 3, or 4 individually but if you wanna tell me it's better than all 3 combined, then just stop talking to me OK. 7. "I don't care if it sells 1000 copies or a million..." That one was for s***s and giggles and hopefully a wake up call for Capcom to get their act together.
If you like it more power to you, just don't try to force me to like it.
