The Gray Man (2022)
Disappointing but tolerable cartoonish, mindless action film
This could have been so much more but the script and super hero style action scenes cheapen it ,the cliches are everywhere but it feels like they just wanted to make a super hero movie based on a novel ( why write an original screenplay?) because they didn't have the rights to a comic book at the time.the cinematography is marvel style and lacks anything interesting or creative in framing or lighting .they could have made a much more interesting and deeper film with more money spent on writing the script to get a more defined tone it feels lost between all the films it is trying to be and the MCU.
Unlike others in the spy action-thriller genre it lacks any thriller as you share the lead characters apathy knowing exactly how things will play out ,chris evans is the least threatening torturer and sociopath ever in film ,the casting is terrible he should stick to MCU or a network sitcom.this film has zero depth ,grit or realism in its script, cast, cinematography or action scenes.the directors are stuck in comic book film mode and it hurts this project,it's a simple dumb action film and some will like it but fans of the genre will find it pretty bland and bewildering.
Watch it while you play games on your phone you won't loose the plot.
Law & Order: Paranoia (1995)
Curtis clutches his pearls and thinks he's an internet expert
The ray curtis character is too much in this episode ,he acts like a complete prude and a moral crusader at any kind of erotic art ,at the same time he thinks knowing what a Pentium is makes him an elite hacker that's down with the kids "surfin the web" it's just not plausible that a detective in New York clutches his pearls in disgust over an erotic movie poster, blog post or network t.v ,which his children are band from watching,I know that's his character to be the Boy Scout but they go too far in this ep and it's hard to watch it's cringe .the rest of the episode is the usual decent procedural.
Thai Cave Rescue (2022)
A low budget version from a different perspective
If your interest in this is event is only passing or from the remarkable job a bunch of volunteers from all over the world did to save the team from certain death in almost impossible conditions then give this one a pass ,all films based on real events have to change things for the sake of the film but this series goes far beyond that to the point of disrespect to those involved .
Its relatively small budget is often evident especially in the underwater sections and has a very daytime t.v feel to dialogue .while this version shows more of the boys in the cave and their families it's very cheesy and slow at times
watch "13 lives "directed by Ron Howard instead it does a much better job showing what it was like and the technical difficulties they faced in trying to bring them out alive ,having some of the actual divers on set as advisors really makes the technical aspects of the rescue as accurate as possible while also having the budget for large purpose built wet sets of parts the cave system.this version lacks in that department and unfortunately for me the actors ,especially the western ones don't have performances to make it compelling enough for me to finish watching it.
This was obviously made for Thai audiences and they in general have a much deeper emotional connection to the team and their stories.it also has a Thai daytime drama feel to it which is too melodramatic for me.
