Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (2005 Video Game)

if you liked the solo portion of doom 3 you will love this.

i really enjoyed doom 3 but i think it did lack some of the step forwards that the genera has taken in recent years , the game play is very standard there are no puzzles really and the majority of the game does just consist of running , gunning and not much else .ressurection of evil is no different . there are a couple of extras like the gravity gun , double barrelled shotgun a few new enemies but this really is all you are going to see . this is not a bad thing though . this is not an entirely new entry into the series i think you have to bare in mind , this is just an extension of the previous title ( plus there is original doom , doom 2 and master levels ) so if you are looking for a fresh new look at first person shooters , you should look else where but if you enjoy the dark , dingy corridors of doom 3 then this is where you should look ( the single player campaign is not that long though , i completed the game in one day )

Far Cry Instincts (2005 Video Game)

present day tropical halo ! sort of ...

this is a game not to be missed by any fps fan who's only means to play the genre is on a console . influences from halo are very apparent right from the get go , the duel wielding guns and left trigger for the grenade are obviously pinched right out of bungies now legendary fps but this isn't something that seems cliché ; this is what made halo great , why can't other games use it?

the scale of the game is mind boggling . i heard some where that the whole island you are trapped on works out to be one square kilometre , no corridors or tight twisting tunnels to keep the frame rate up , this is huge sun kissed paradise with hardly any boundaries and frequent moments of beauty which will make you stop and stare.

the vehicle physics are the most disappointing aspect of the game , i think they wanted you to be able to shoot and drive at the same time which turns out to be tricky due to the ropey controls ( the left analogue stick is used for accelerate as well steering ) also there's only one difficulty setting and the game can become very hard .

the graphics are stunning , it does make me wonder is the release of the xbox 360 a little premature ? this is a game not to be missed the graphics , game play , setting are all great and jack carver has some excellent voice acting by Steven dorff it is a package not to be missed by any xbox owner.

Sexy Beast (2000)

a simple story with an amazing support cast , not to mention one of the greatest performances by a British actor in the last ten years of cinema.

I try very hard to not have any preconceived judgements on movies before I see them but I found it very difficult to not think I already knew what was going to happen in this film ; I pictured some over zealous British gangster tale of woe ,peral and contrived morals but what I thought was going to be an average film turned out to be one of the greatest British movies I have seen in years . the unassuming storyline griped me not for the intricate plot twists but the enigma .

the whole cast complement the dry dark theme . Kingsley (logan) truly stands out in the movie not just by his merits as an actor but by the way Winston (gal), Kendall (aitch), white (dee) and Redman(Jackie)relay a score of unwanted emotions so convincingly . from the nervous fidgeting of Winston to the out of character manner of Kendall in Kingsley's presence . it begs the question ,what is it that this man has done to warrant this behaviour? you'll soon find out . could be interpreted as a little odd but with an open mind on your side you might be talking about this one for years.
