Oppenheimer (2023)
Spellbinding tale of Creation to Catastrophe
"Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. For this he was chained to a rock and tortured for eternity!"
Real controllable power stays in the shadows. Imagine a neutron, despite being the most powerful catalyst to a chain reaction never in its purest form compromises the valency of an atom because its innate nature prevents it from turning rogue. But when it gets triggered by externalities, disaster is bound to happen. The genesis of this externality, an obsessive self induced entitlement to change the world, is well explained in one of the verses from Bhagvad Gita "Attachment to sensory pleasures often lead a man spiralling into the abyss of lust, lust leads to anger which further develops into delusion al last destroying all intelligence and bringing him back to the material pool of existence devoid of any reputation".
Dr. J Robert Oppenheimer one of the most influential man to ever live, battered by his pride and lost in the relevance of Manhattan Project, was one such raw mind burst open by the endless desire to change the world. But all his creation led to was a traumatic lifelong battle between the uncontrollable power fueled by monumental stature and the subconscious fear of feeling trapped in the gallows of internal turmoil manifested by the consequences of actions. Amidst the political catharsis his stature is well uplifted by Cilian Murphy's divine portrayal who bends and tears every possible aspect of an already perplexed yet hallucinated mind elevating the notion of an American Prometheus.
All performances including Ludwig Göransson chilling background score are worth remembering with brilliance written all over. Only caveat lies in Nolan's style of filmmaking who builds the experience purely for IMAX. No theatre less will be able to negate somewhat sluggish screenplay at times. Nevertheless, Oppenheimer with its deep scientific and spiritual connotations, fires every neuron in your body and begs you to think what just detonated on screen? Was it an atom bomb or the future of mankind. Highly Recommended!
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
BabaYaga! That was beautiful.
"You come here thinking there is a way out of this world for you, Mr. Wick. There is not. You are a killer. It's the killing that gives you purpose."
A film should not have ambitions more than its worth but when the ambitions grow in line with the box office grosses with each installment cascading in stature it must face the consequence of expectations. This is what John Wick as a brand has achieved over the years and Chapter 4 is by far its best gift.
It is a love letter to cinema and filmmaking at large where action, no longer used as a prop, takes centerstage and is celebrated by ballerinas like Keanu Reeves, and Donnie Yen who dignify the space with their own charm and metallic personality. Stunning to say the least. Well choreographed endless string of eye-popping action sequences - 14 in the finale act are a match made in heaven like ebbs visible only for a moment. The high table just shatters with those bombs one after the other anhilating the screen to smithereens.
Overall, John Wick along with the awe inspiring tonality brushed with magnificent camera work and excruciatingly long set pieces tricks you into a dreamy state of ecstasy and establishes a benchmark that will go down in history as a thesis on how to make memorable action films. After all who would have imagined that a party scene would show people with authority fighting their own hideous battles in the background unwithered by the careless mob taking care of business by recklessly dancing to the beats without substance. That was insanely beautiful Chad Stahelski.
The Whale (2022)
The Whale Splash
Sometimes, when we watch a film and go through the insipid innuendos in between, we pass it off as a boring affair. But should we really do that? It might be a genuine attempt by the narrator himself to save the audience from his own sad story, just for a little while. And if we stay put, chances are such stories genuinely transpire into an epic. The Whale is one such tragic yet satisfying tale of a reclusive English teacher who clings onto the thread of Moby Dick's legend to showcase his own vulnerable self and creates an impact on his daughter that changes her life forever.
Starring Brendan Fraser and based on the much-acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter, The Whale begins with a poignant scene where an essay instructor, teaching a virtual class full of happy faces, lures his students to stare into the empty, dark abyss of a black screen. With the camera shut and everyone left dumbfounded by how he really looks, is a beautiful tribute to the true essence of the morbid creature, often known to invoke a sense of kinship and wonder.
Brought to life by the noir rendition and ignited by Brendon Fraiser's and Sadie Sink's transcending spark, the film shines heavily on its premise, where the protagonist deals with the eventuality of death and yet makes one final dash to rise above the surface to trigger a moment. A moment where the rush of adrenaline could alter perception and leave everyone to ponder how insignificant their problems actually are in real life.
Overall, The Whale is a memorable saga of a helpless yet spectacular force of nature who, despite surviving in the gloomiest of oceanic depths, keeps the ecosystem balanced in its own tranquil world of emotional solitude. It compels to reflect on the idea that beyond a trap of helplessness there always lies a novel thought of being kind to others.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Maverick sends Rooster among Goose. Top Shot
"Lt. Phoenix - Everyone here is the best there is. Who the hell are they going to get to teach us?
Adm. Warlock - Your instructor is one of the finest this program has ever produced. His exploits... are legendary. What he has to teach you may very well mean the difference between life and death. His call sign: Maverick. "
Top Gun Maverick is an outstanding sequel to the legendary original. Tom cruise goes overboard with his gravity defying skills and overachieves in the book of overachievers. He makes you fall in love with Pete Mitchell aka Maverick all over again with his ridiculous exploits and breath-taking flying manoeuvres and makes you wonder how can somebody pull this off even at his age. There is very strong emotional pull resonating throughout which tears into layers of Maverick-Goose relationship. Combine this with mesmerising aerial sequences and a legendary final act - what you are left with is an inexplicable feeling of awe, admiration and respect. As if a flight simulation is luring you into a world of dogfights with those mesmerizing F-18 machines.
It almost took 36 years for the sequel of Top gun to come out and no wonder it has arrived in all its magnanimous glory and grandeur. The sequel soars high and is a perfect summer blockbuster. It not only recreates what the original stood for but also breaks barriers and reaches new heights in the arena of filmmaking especially on the stout and able shoulders of Tom cruise.
Go for it. Highly recommended!.
CODA (2021)
A breath of fresh Air!
"Love is deaf. You cant just tell someone you love them. You have to show it." CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) is a fitting tribute to this adage & epitomizes hope and kindness with utter pure heart and soul.
As you start watching, being a silent film for majority of its part, it makes you anxious about the fact that there are going to be no subtitles or dialogues to help you navigate here. But pretty soon as you go deeper into the sea of emotions, you are struck by the presence of the most powerful language in the world. Love.
Sprinkle it with a sumptuous mix of soothing music and all you are left with is an experience worth remembering. A heart warming glimpse into two different worlds separated by sound but connected with love.
CODA is easily one of the best films of the year so far. A great blend of ambition and sacrifice, it makes you believe that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. All you need to do is to stop cribbing and channelize your energy in the right direction.
Special OPS (2020)
King of Thrillers Neeraj Pandey is back with a bang!
The title and the name of the Maestro himself "Directed By - Neeraj Pandey" is a deadly combo that can make any thriller aficionado weak in his or her knees.Special OPS is an irresistible watch right from the start to finish and is a befitting tribute to the Indian Act of God a.k.a R&AW and IB, the 2 most important components of our security fabric well and truly alive in the gallows of the unknown. This is definitely Neeraj Pandey's best work so far and will go down in history as one of the best Indian digital productions ever made. It will be a tough benchmark for future entertainers to break.Watch it for Pandey's and Kay Kay Menon's bravado.Outstanding!
1917 (2019)
Film of the Year 2020
1917 is a perfect example of how a simple story can be turned into a masterpiece using film making ingenuity. It has literally turned the direction and screenplay business on its head by changing the rules of the game.
Earlier the audience used to interpret a movie by watching a series of frames. With 1917 we see this definition evolve into a series of lengthy shots. To accomplish such a task in a predefined space would have been a quotidian thing but here we see the imagination painted on a canvas of World War 1 which is an outrageous attempt in itself and the result is simply astounding.
No doubt it will be one of the front runners at the Oscars which works big time not only because of awe inspiring cinematography but also because of the screenplay. The soul of the film is infectious and makes it one of the best World War drama movies to come out of Hollywood till date.
Seldom we see cinema transforming right in front of our eyes and movies that challenge hard to bring such a change definitely deserve all the respect in the world.
1917 JUST EARNED IT!
Judy (2019)
JUDY is infectious
A heart is not judged by how much you love others but by how much others love you.JUDY is an unforgettable film that warms your heart and lingers on making you question and believe the vacuum in an artist's life.
The tragedy of Judy Garland is brought to life by the honest and legendary performance of Renée Zellweger. She was born to play this role and has just lived Judy's hollowness, her emptiness and her vulnerability to the core.
Such is the scale of her performance that it leaves you teary eyed. She is definitely winning the OSCAR without any second thoughts and has set a benchmark in stagecraft that is not going to be beaten anytime soon atleast in the near future.
The film's screenplay is adapted from the Peter Quilter's musical - "End of the rainbow" which depicts Judy Garland's life leading up to her Death in 1969 and does complete justice to the memory and stardom of one of the most popular artists of the 20th century.
This film will go down in history as the revelation of Renée Zellweger's stardom. She is an absolute gem of an actor.Outstanding!
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Infinity War was better!!
Film is way too overstretched for its own liking and becomes a monotonous affair for most of its part.Story also lacks coherence and the screenplay seems way too predictable. The script is too convenient and at some point becomes hard too digest.Best part of the film remains an adorable hulk, hillarious Thor and an enigma of perfection Captain America.Battle scenes are the USP of the film.
Overall it is a one time watch at best.It would take an Endgame kind of an effort to sit through this movie again. It could have been easily trimmed by almost 30-40 minutes but the compulsion of showing each and every character without weighing their usefulness make this movie a soul missing drag
Shazam! (2019)
Just say it.Shazam!
SHAZAM is a super fresh entry in the DCEU and is easily one of the best films you will see all summer. What works for the film is its screenplay. It is so taught and well knit in terms of character development that you as an audience instantly feel for the protagonist and his foster friends who are sooo adorable that somewhere deep down you even root for them to overcome all the obstacles in life.Zachary Levi is a perfect cast as Shazam and infuses new life into the character. His mannerisms are 100% in sync with the comics and makes this film a laugh riot throughout.Although I do feel that his sequences with the villain lack some impact and could have used some more VFX's but owing to a meager budget of $100 million this was always going to be the case.Nevertheless cinematography and BGM are another strong points of the film that make this one of the best to come out of DCEU till date.
Overall Shazam is a small film with a gargantuan heart that works purely because of the soul that rubs instantly from the get go and is highly recommended to be watched with your family and friends.Go for it and just say the word Shazaaaaammm!
Captain Marvel (2019)
Captain Dud !! Thanos would be smiling
Captain Marvel works purely on the goodwill that Marvel has build over years. It is not something that you wouldn't have seen before. It is a good old blend of films like Star Trek,Oblivion etcetera. The film lacks soul and the character development of Carrol Denvers is way too poor.Neither Brei Larson impresses. The movie is literally bad on so many fronts be it screenplay or direction. The only positive point in the film is the cat and Samuel Jackson's Nick furry who had a little bit of humour here and there.
Overall Captain Marvel is a big dissapointment that lacks a script that would have made people scream THANOS IS SO DEAD.Skip this one if you dont want to destroy your peace of mind. 2 stars

Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
Baahubali -The GOAT
=====SPOILER FREE====
#BAAHUBALI2 is the best film that has ever been made in Indian cinema and considering the amount of emotions that are attached with this film, it is sure to rank among the classics this world has ever produced.India is blessed to have directors like Rajamouli. His creativity and imagination is beyond comparison. He simply brought the best out of all the characters, all the actors.I haven't seen such VFX's, such cinematography, such screenplay anywhere else.
Coming to acting all the actors have delivered career defining performances be it RANA,ANUSHKA,SATHYARAJ,RAMYA,TAMANNA(for the first part) but the man who has simply changed the rules of the game is PRABHAS. There is a certain kind of royalty that is attached to him yet it is his humane nature that makes him absolutely endearing. What an actor!!!He is the definition of what a Superstar is.
VERDICT-Overall Bollywood will never have the balls to make a film like this ever because films like these require passion, commitment, patience and creativity that Bollywood lacks.MAHABHARATA can only be made by RAJAMOULI and nobody else. BAAHUBALI is a phenomenon that will easily earn a minimum of 1000cr.Nothing can best it in the near future. It is a classic that will be foretold to future generation as the "Movie of this generation". Go experience this once in a lifetime event.
RATING-This film can't be rated because of its super humanness, magnanimity and grandeur. You have to see it to believe it.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Captain can surely fight all day long!!!
Though it has its share of pitfalls in the beginning but a rollicking second half makes it wildly entertaining!!! What's good in the movie is that the screenplay improves gradually (all through out the movie) and leaves the viewers on a high. Chris Evans expresses beautifully.Robert Downey displays the same attitude that personifies him.Overall all the actors have done a nice job. Action sequences were top notch in the second half!!! You might feel disappointed with how SPIDEY is handled but overall it is a good watch. To sum it up it was more of an AVENGERS assemble fighting the enemy within. Highly recommended. Just go for it!!!It is worth every penny. For more such honest reviews follow me on "Kshitij reviews" page on FB.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Ben Affleck is the best batman ever!!!Treat for comic books fan
To be honest I really cant understand why people are bashing this movie. For people who have been reading and watching DC comics and animations since childhood this a treat to watch! Entire cinema hall was clapping and enjoying the movie to the core.People who like Man of Steel they are going to love this one. First half requires a lot of patience to understand the nitty-gritty but ultimately everything falls into place. It is a serious, dark and poignant piece of cinema. Don't go for it if you are expecting any kind of kiddish Marvel's type of humour or any humour at all.It easily outshines Avengers for me.Second half is WOW.Visuals are breathtaking. Only thing that could have been better was Lex's role. Overall you need to see it to believe it !!! Go for it...It will easily top 1.5billion $ globally.
Airlift (2016)
Airlift - Stays true to its name!!!
It is one of those movies which will test your sensibilities and in the end will only make you stand up and clap.Just like an aircraft takes time to lift ,same is the case with Airlift. It takes time to build up in the first half but in the second it just flies and knocks you left right and center.
Credit goes to Akshay Kumar who invested in the script. He brought the real patriotic Indian on screen. His performance was a total standout.
It is a must watch for all those cynical and worthless Indians who do nothing but portray the essence of the nation in a bad light.Feeling really proud after watching this.Such movies really need to be encouraged!!!
Vande Matram
Bajirao Mastani (2015)
Bajirao :An epic masterpiece
What a movie!!! It deserves its place rightfully among all the classics ever made and if any movie has the potential to come close to Mughl-e-Azam ,it is this one.
Right from the script to the direction to the background score everything is spot on. Stellar performances only add cherry to the cake. Deepika Padukone,Ranveer Singh and PC are going to win a lot of awards this season.Bhansali's direction is crisp and boy ,those sets were awesome.Your eyes will be glued to the screen till the movie ends and you will wish that movie never ends.Such beauty!!!
All in all it is a movie of a lifetime. Don't miss it at any cost !!!
