Bondi Tsunami (2004)
Apart from being a bit of inane eye candy this film has nothing going for it at all.
So it isn't the worst Australian film of all time, but it is still pretty awful. It looks and sounds OK, for about 5 minutes, until you realise that the whole film is just going to be more of the same - vacuous shots of (admittedly pretty) Japanese dudes acting inanely and occasionally surfing to a groovy but ultimately boring soundtrack.
I almost gave this film more than 1/10 just because of the unintentionally hilarious commentary extra feature on the DVD. Not only do the director and producer sound like pretentious twats with overblown egos, the detail of subtext they read into their own film making is laughable. This is an empty film with no plot, no character development, no narrative whatsoever apart from a banal and simple story of a stupid road trip. Apart from being a bit of inane eye candy this film has nothing going for it at all.
Human Touch (2004)
A self-parody?
Unfortunately this film was sadly quite awful. It is really just an aging man's sexual fantasy, with little insight into the inner lives of the younger characters. The best thing about the film, the acting of the two lead performers Aaron Blabey and Jacqueline McKenzie, was heroic considering how awful the script was. The rest of the acting was verging on the ridiculous, although the scenes involving 'Bud' Tingwell and Julia Blake impart a bit of much needed class into what is otherwise a piece of fairly shallow nonsense. In many ways watching this film felt like watching an awful parody of one of Cox's earlier (and much more interesting) film "Man of Flowers".
