The Act of Killing (2012)
The Act of Killing Review
I think the purpose of this documentary is to expose their killings. In the documentary you see how they executed people and how they feel/think about it, and they don't seem to happy with their past. It's coming back to haunt them. The main people in this documentary think that they are making a movie and are going to be stars. It took place in Indonesia and they're just reenacting how they ended thousands of lives. I enjoyed the documentary just it was hard to understand what was really happening. It surprised me because I didn't expect them to feel guilty and pain because of it, i thought they were just monsters. I would recommend this documentary to people and I might watch it again to fully understand it.
Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013)
20 Feet from Stardom Review
20 Feet from Stardom was about 5 background singers that never quite made it to the top but were very talented. I think this was to show people the struggle from being a background singer to being a Solo artist. Their names are Merry Clayton, Darlene Love, Claudia Lennear, Lisa Fischer, and Judith Hill. I liked how they could look back on their memories with a smile on their face. I learned that it's not easy to make it somewhere in this world but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying. It surprised me how well these ladies could sing, how talented a lot of background singers are. I would recommend this documentary to anyone.
Al midan (2013)
The Square Review
The Square is about an Egyptian Uprising. They want a new government with a new President. People should watch this to learn about what's happening around the world that a lot of us don't know about. The Square is about Egyptians living in Poverty, Injustice, and Corruption. What happens is the public protests in Tahrir Square (you don't have freedom of speech in Egypt) and is able to have President Mubarak step down. The public has completely filled Tahrir Square and the Military steps in to try and control it and then all heck breaks loose. I liked how dedicated these people are for fighting for what they believe in. I recommend this documentary to anybody who cares about what's going on around the world.
Cutie and the Boxer (2013)
Cutie and the boxer review.
The purpose of "Cutie and the Boxer" was to show people what marriage is all about. It showed the good times and the bad times. And even after all the struggle and all the pain they are still together, Happy. "Cutie and the Boxer" was about a couple who has been together for about 40 years and were artists. Ushio and Noriko were artists that wanted to be successful so bad they have spent most of their life chasing their dreams in New York. I really enjoyed the happy times in the documentary were it just showed them being together, happy. I learned that you can't be a master at anything if you don't try. It really surprised me when their son Alex showed his artwork, he was really good. I felt as though his work was better than his parents. I would recommend this documentary to people because I really enjoyed watching this. 10/10.
Dirty Wars (2013)
Dirty Wars.
I believe this documentary was made to show us what happens at war. We're completely oblivious to what's going on around the world. Most of us don't pay attention. We should be concerned about what's going on because it's serious business. This video is informing us about what the U.S. Military is doing over seas. This involves raiding innocent people and killing them. We have been bombing countries that we haven't even declared war in like Yemen. It was filmed in Afghanistan, Yemen, U.S., etc. I enjoyed the information the documentary gave me because I had no idea most of this was going on. I learned a lot about the U.S. and why people hate us around the world. I would recommend this documentary to anybody I meet.
