Dirilis: Ertugrul: Pilot (2014)
Lots of action, lots of plots, absolutely no blood, sex, or gore
I can't believe there are only two reviews for this series. Right at the beginning of my review, I watched this series on Netflix while recovering from kidney failure.
But I never slept through any of the episodes, that's how good this series was for me.
Well acted, well directed, great horsemanship, and sets.
I had no idea of this Turkish history and had to do some research and reading to catch up so I could follow along better.
I have been on the search to purchase a copy of the complete series since 2018-2019 (I think?). I looked tonight, March 2024 and found USB copies of this series. Its still quite expensive, so I will wait until the price comes down.
I will assuredly purchase the series. Well worth it viewing. Its like 5 seasons, and like 500 hours! Worth the binge time.
Harmony (2018)
Is it real? Where did the writer get the idea for a film like Harmony?
Where I come from (Holy Spirit-filled Believers of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit): we call it burden bearing, and includes intercessory prayer.
We are born, not made into these two gifts. Intercessors know how to grasp the Horns of the Altar of God and not let go until the answer comes. Burdenbearers know how & yield to the burden by carrying a person like a beast of burden (like a donkey) in prayer. We can literally take on what others feel good and bad. If we don't handle the burden appropriately, we can become depressed, restless sleep, even develop health problems. Absolution portrays this well.
Ozark (2017)
Is there gonna be a 5th season?
I think the writers and cast came through for a 4th season. They did not disappoint.
I thought the whole subject matter was far more intense, much like waiting in line for a roller coaster ride.
The kids lost much of their innocence atmosphere they had in the first two seasons.
I have been waiting with baited breath to see 4th season. Will there be a 5th season?
I binge watch this show, and watch the seasons over and over again.
Lost in Space (2018)
Apples to Oranges?
I've never really understood that saying...Its equally bizarre that people compare "old" Lost in Space to "new" Lost in Space.
I've done lost track of how many times I've watched this new Lost in Space series. Aged and in bad health, some days all I can do is veg in the bed and binge tv....."good" tv.
At least you can clearly see the difference between wife and mother Maurine and the wife/mother/astronaut/smarty-pants Maurine.(with intended affection)
Much more realistic, truest to humanity, not to mention squeaky clean. Even your little kids could watch this and never see a naked body. I loved that about LiS 2.
As the rest of the cast, I'm an SO glad they switched it up a bit.....well, okay, a lot. But it gave surprising and needful breath of fresh air to the characters. (I recommend watch the original LiS, and we'll see just how long it takes you before you switch over to the new series.
It did take me 3 seasons to get used to the female Dr Smith. But her new hairdo in season 3, She's a really pretty woman!! And not quite so ornery.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for making the 3rd season. I recommended a 3rd season on imdb. And I am so pleased. And I will watch this series again and again, until the angels call me home.
Maybe in the future of old tv series remakes, take this series of Lost in Space to make it successful. Unlike how they totally destroyed The Croods. Loved the first movie, second one sucked.
Harlots (2017)
Thought I'd like this show, and I enjoyed it, with some reservations.
Intriguing, well acted, well written, has its comedy element, and the hated characters.
I had to post a review, especially following Margaret's saved from death by hanging. Like I've seen in other British movies, the criminal elements were threatened to be sent to the Colonies, or were actually sent to the Colonies to live lives of indenturement or worse.
Just gives new meaning to "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to be free." And then the Brits wondered why the Colonists could even dare desire to be free.
And the world ponders and even make fun of the 'kick-ass' attitudes that us Patriots still have today. Makes me proud that America has become the 'muscle' of the world! (to those who would refute my sentiments......"Well...frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.")*smile*
Taboo (2017)
Profoundly intriguing and entertaining
I watched this series when it first premiered in the US. Have have lost count as to how many times I have 'binged the series since. Each time I watch it, I hear something new that I missed previously.
They're clues, subtle and intriguing as to where they lead one to what and/or whom it pertains to.
I am extremely critical of Hollywood writers these days, dull, unimaginative, and seemingly have a not so secret motive to kill off the movies and tv series in which they write.
But Taboo's writers have restored my faith in their ability to keep the viewers/fans anticipating the next episode. The actors/actresses are most effective and show truly compeling talent to carry out the storylines.
Even the children in this series have some talent to perform their roles.
I highly recommend folks binge watch this series, or make a weekly date to watch the each episode amongst friends.
I await with baited breath to watch season 2. I particularly like how Tom Hardy's character gives to the less fortunate, yet despises the hypocrisy of nobility.
Its about time we have some really great shows.
Damnation (2017)
Intrigue, well worth the watch......except one issue
I enjoy this show. And that says a lot when I really despise Depression Era movies and all. But I did enjoy Road to Perdition too, and I will add Damnation to my list of likes. But I have one exception: Being a "Sod-Buster's Daughter" from Iowa, born and raised, and will never despise my humble beginnings.......Just WHERE did you folks find pine forests in Iowa? Hmmmm? I was taken back just a bit at that creek and bridge shot that looked an awfully lot like Wyoming or Colorado and the like. But we (Iowa) do have areas near the Mississippi River areas, Loesse Hills, Muscatine (major river valley areas of the state of Iowa). There were some personalities in characters that did not pull of that "Iowa" charm. I have serious doubts about AA farmers. Even to this day there are lots of Iowa towns that rarely see people of color. However there were the coal towns that were called "black" towns. (not my words nor of my upbringing. I was in my 30's when I moved to a big city, sat in an arena of believers worshiping God in unity from all colors of the world, I bawled my eyes out.So don't make the mistake of me being a racist). Many of those towns dried up and disappeared when the recession of the 1880's. My point is the show is great, but your portrayal of Iowans............sad..........just...sad! And I still have to make time to research this "farmers protest stuff". I have never heard of such a thing, nor do I recall the elders speak of such things happening. But I'm open to correction and re-education. Did anyone even like...ask an Iowan about Iowa? just wonderin'....
Fallen (2007)
I recommend reading about angels good or bad in the Bible
If you know anything about the Bible, this series will only be annoying for the lack of integrity. Someone actually wrote this as a series made for TV? It's obvious the author researched things, but some how got the details all messed up.
The acting was good any how....I most certainly would 'not' spend any amount of money to watch this series.
Turn (2014)
The Best ever made for TV and/or theater
I am a descendant of many ancestors who fought in the historical wars of this world. This series, Turn: Washington's Spies, will forever be my favorite. It was engaging, poignant, and it often moved me to tears of the pride that I have in my country.
Thank you for presenting a side of the Revolutionary War through the eyes of the nameless men and women who fought with their convictions of the freedoms that I enjoy today.
And I wish to extend my appreciation for every man and woman who continue to fight to maintain that semblance of freedom today.
Thank you! C. McNaul
Revelation: The End of Days (2014)
what I wrote are about things that scripture says will happen, not what was portrayed in the movie, but just fyi:
I read several other reviews and agree with most of them. Those coming from people of faith I felt were far more informative than the reviews from those who are apparently of no or little faith.
I was completely annoyed with the so called "trumpets" blast that sounded familiarly like alien movies like The Mist and Cloverfield.
The storyline barely followed prophesy or scripture. As another review noted that when the second coming of Christ appears in a 'cloud of glory', ALL will see Him. I don't believe just believers will see him, but every man, woman and child will truly see Him for who He is.
This movie leaves one in great confusion as to what happened and who, when and where! I believe by unbelievers will already hate those of the Christian faith to the point that laws will be enacted to make Christianity illegal. Being blamed for all that ails the world. No one really knows when the anti-Christ will appear, though the Word says we will see the shadow of his approach. The unbelievers will be so glad to get rid of us, they'll probably be scared when the rapture occurs, then rejoice when we're gone. There will be a remnant of those left behind that will know they missed "the first train" home. When that's all done and over, then the really scary 'caca' hits the fan! The unbelievers by this time will know God was and is real, yet hate Him with every fiber of their being. So much so, that they will think they can actually beat Christ in the Battle of Armagedon and meet at Megiddo to fight the war to end all wars. None of this is featured in this series of movies(so there is no spoilers to warn)....Perhaps it was History Channel's intent to portray "the end times" in such a benign way? If that's so, then they achieved their intentions very well making this series. Only time will tell, as we are seeing the signs of Christ's return more and more than ever before.....as the Word 'also' says, '.....as you begin to see these happen, look up for redemption draws nigh."(Luke 21 and Romans 3)
Labyrinth (2012)
my take on the "Labyrinth"
I didn't even know this movie or series even existed and didn't see it until it aired on syfy Dec 23, 2015. Nothing else on TV but reruns! And I was quite satisfied with Labyrinth. Had a little trouble identifying some of the actors/actresses, but that was still a pleasant surprise. I thought Tom Felton did very well in his character, and that's saying a lot for me! I did have a little trouble following the plot. Not sure if it was my lack of historical knowledge, or the directing was lacking? Being an 'armchair' genealogist, I have come to really appreciate history so much more, so it could be just me. I do like period movies like these that are historically based. Meaning I recognize the d'vereux's, etc, beings I am a descendant. (Kg Edw I was my 21st GGF, and Mary Boleyn my 12th GGM). I also thought the clothing (not the exaggerated fluff and stuff), sets, and props were well done. I don't believe the fabrics of the day were so refined as most other movies portray. I would recommend this movie/series to others who enjoy such types. I didn't think the violence part was so bad, I've seen far worse on TWD! The woman who played Oriane.....I really don't get her..the actress? She seems to always play the same mean, spiteful creature ever since her first debut on Merlin (that I'm aware of, or was that even her debut?) She does appear to be improving on her acting skills, but I think she should really get a day job. After a quick read on the Cathars, I can see where the Catholic Church rose up against them. Being a person of faith, I wouldn't have agreed with the Cathar beliefs either. Yet, based on the Word, the Catholic Church is in direct conflict as well, and was and still is nothing more than a very well organized cult that uses death, hell, and the grave to control its members. But this would be a whole other subject...smile.
