Bullet Train (2022)
It's funny
Good camera work, beautifully cinematic scenes. The visuals alone are one reason to see this movie, and I typically prefer outdoor filmography but they managed to make these striking. The cast is great with the exception of the russian daughter. She did well, I just find that actor rather annoying in the face. Can't get past it for some reason. Lemon and Tangerine are absolutely hilarious and sweet. Their bickering and Ladybugs commentary is great. Overall this movie is perfect as a goofy action comedy, my only complaint was the very brief sex scene at the beginning. It wasn't funny or necessary in any way.
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)
Ruined with the addition of Dot and Peaches
Honestly, this could have been a magnificent heartfelt comedy between Ben and Trevor. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie until Dot appeared, it was downhill from there and fast. I didn't start the movie to watch an idiot girl cuss every 4 words or a random ass woman give birth on gravel. That scene was so unimpactful and useless, it added nothing. Neither female characters added anything to the story.
What I expected and wanted was the journey and growth with Trevor and Ben. Just Trevor and Ben. I will not be recommending this movie and I will never watch it again. Truly a disappointment and I'm so glad I didn't pay for it. 3 starts because it started out strongly, worthy of a 10, but then shot itself in the foot over and over again.
Kate (2021)
Dumb
If we could leave one word reviews I would. This is basically Lucy but from the perspective of an assassin and instead of enhancing drugs, it's poison. The CGI was horrible, the plot idiotic, the acting not very good (I adore Woody though, always), the music is questionable for the theme. I really thought it was supposed to be a comedy every time the goofy music played and that's no diss to the music, I enjoyed it, but it made me laugh confusidley (it's a word now) because on ond hand it's funny, on the other I had no idea how to take it! Totally unnecessary sex scene, thankfully they stopped before nudity. Honestly took away from the already bad film. If you want to be confused but laugh occasionally, give it a watch. I won't ever actually recommend this and will never watch again.
Fear Street: 1978 (2021)
Shame
Really a shame that you ruined a potentially good movie with so much child sex. It's quite disgusting and anyone who enjoyed the movie with that content in it is also disgusting and likely predatory. The first movie did well to not add sex, but did poorly when showing children in their underwear making out and implying child sex. Revolting.
There was no improvement on the gore. I don't mind gore, but it was cartoony in the first movie and it's cartoony in this one. It draws away from the fear factor and makes it even more of a comedy. One review mentions they wish they had more "splatter" as if they would improve anything.
Relationships were not believable.
I've seen the 3rd film prior to these ones and it was ignorant. They should never had made these.
Damsel (2024)
Pretty but underwhelming
I adore fantasy films. Not this one. Millie Brown has a lot to learn when it comes to acting. She wasn't bad by any means and of course part of her performance is partly to be blamed on the director. However, she wasn't great and was barely good, particularly towards the end of the film. Such as when she was confronting the queen in front of the 3rd sacrificial bride. It was straight stupid, poor writing and ignorant direction on performance.
As for some of the comments on 'moderninity', I typically only view that with ethnicity (forcing different skin shades where they don't belong). Yes, there were 2 'out of place' black characters but you have to remember, this is a FANTASY land. It has a totally different timelime and happenings than our own. I personally didn't have any issue with any of the cast in that sense because this movie is not claiming to be historically accurate. I like Angela Bassett but I didn't care for her in the role she had, she is far too strong of an actor to be playing a character that, essentially, is weak. Not to mention it's a small role and she deserves bigger and better. Yes, I know she chose to take the role.
The CGI was really goos, I could only notice a few things that were a little blurry or otherwise not perfect, but ultimately it doesn't matter because I can't remember what they were the next day. I enjoyed the dragon having a slightly different form to traditional dragons. She was by no means the first of her design but it was refreshing to see something different, yet not ridiculous, that wasn't limited to video games. The voice actor was a good choice, obviously feminine but still held the weight of a large, not-to-trifled-with beast with some gutteral sound.
I hated the visions of previous princesses, it really took me out of the moment. I think this would have been better as a short series and probably would have enjoyed it much more. A shame they went for the short movie time instead, really takes away a lot of opportunity and visual growth. I will never watch it again, and while I gave it 4 stars I would recommend it to anyone interested in fantasy.
Daybreak (2019)
It started strong then flipped a switch
We started watching this out of sheer boredom and found it moderately amusing. We stopped watching around episode 3 or 4? Because we forgot what it was called for about 6 months. We started it up again and it was the episode where they elaborate on the big baddie Hoyle. We were not amused with the sex in the school restroom. There is nothing okay with or funny about children having sex. We stopped watching and will not be picking it up again. It has a lot of potential for what it's meant to be; a comedy that knows how cheesy and stupid it is. The level of stupidity and the self awareness is what makes it funny.
Leave out child sex, people, seriously. You're disgusting if you like it, think it's acceptable, or funny.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
Bittersweet
Very sweet movie about a man who has forgotten how to live after his wife died. After failed suicide attempts and 'harassment' from caring neighbors, he slowly comes back around, learning to live and love again. He becomes very attached to the new neighbors as time passes, a former student of his wife, and rekindles relationships with the neighbors he's had for years. And a stray cat that he initially tries to shoo away. Very bittersweet, you may very well shed tears towards the end of his journey and rejuvenation of life, ehich unfortunately only lasts 2 and a half years after his wifes passing. Excellent movie.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Started strong, ended weak
My husband and I gave this movie our full attention up until Tate never came back and she got involved with Chase. We were enjoying seeing this young girl overcome what life threw at her and grow into a bright young woman, then finding a man that was good for her. Of course that doesn't work out right away which was disappointing. But overall, up until the 4th beach scene, we were content with what we saw.
As soon as Chase showed up we lost interest, red flags everywhere, totally unlikeable character, real POS glad he died. Didn't enjoy seeing the rough, one-sided sex, then the attempted rape (which I am SO glad neither were elaborated visually or audibly, as well as the intimacy with Tate).
Thanksgiving (2023)
Annoying but alright
My biggest gripe is that it follows a group of teenagers, all of whom appear to be in their mid 20's. The second gripe is a problem I have with most movies; the unnecessary inclusion of SOMETHING sexual between children, which teenagers are. So you have a point in this movie where they intend to evoke arousal towards what we're to believe (for movie's sake) is an underage girl. Extremely gross but thankfully it didn't get farther than her exposing her butt and pulling her thong down.
Other than those 2 things which are my biggest peeves and source of anger/irritation, the movie was alright. I enjoyed the concept, the execution was decent but could have been far better. I will never watch it again. If you want something better I recommend Haunt 2019. It's rewatchability is once a year, for me anyway, only because once you know you know. It's about college kids, still annoying but not nearly as much as the ones in this movie.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Waste of time
I didn't like the first Exorcist. Not because it challenged my views, was offensive or scary, but because it didn't catch my interest at all. At no point in the original movie did I feel anything other than disinterest, with the exception of the priest that sacrificed himself. I only sat through it because my husband said it was a great, horrifying film. That said, with modern special effects and more screwed up minds than before, we both expected this movie to be a hit. We refrained from buying or renting and thank goodness we did because ANY price for this movie is a slap in the face. It suffers from the same issues the original movie did. No one is likable, no character developement, no real threats and pathetic spooks. The only scene in this movie that actually got a slight heart flutter was after the girls came home and Angela's father was asking for details and you briefly see a demonic version of her mother (I thought) behind him. It was a quiet jumpscare and I did actually like it but it was never expanded on and everything after was ridiculously cheap. The entire movie is cheap and a disappointment. The Nun II, although not as scary as the first one and completely predictable, is far better than this film. Will never recommend.
Road House (1989)
Not a thriller
This movie is a poor excuse for a soft core porno. I sat down with my husband to watch it because he said it was stupidly funny. I couldn't disagree more. I went into it thinking it was about a slick goes-where-needed bouncer, out to keep idiots under control and offer a little protection where needed. I was only partly accurate.
This movie is disgusting and a sad excuse to see women nude or topless. I'm honestly embarrassed on his behalf for the pathetic reasoning to watch it AGAIN, and embarrassed for myself because I'm apparently married to a mental teenager.
The story is bare, the characters are bland yet over the top with bad acting. 'Dalton' is relatively fine but the rest is nasty. Not for anyone with morals or women who have self respect, unless you're into this sort of thing. To each their own if it isn't hurting anything. It's for sure hurting my marriage though.
You're Next (2011)
Terrible intro and first 25 minutes
Absolutely unnecessary opening sex scene. I honestly don't remember it from my first watching so I probably skipped it and rightly so. Knocked off 3 stars just because of it. It adds NOTHING to the story. It's just to draw in the desperate or perverse.
We fast forwarded through all the BS and continued once the parents and first couple (our star) were at the house. Otherwise this movie is fantastic, different from other horror survival films with a character who actually has a brain and later you find out training! Although you feel bad for the officer that dies at the end you can't help but be happy the star survives the entire ordeal.
Lie with Me (2005)
Disgusting sexualization of teen
Straight pornography. The acts has stated she was proud to 'act' in this movie. Not only is the actual acting bad, it is no longer acting when you have real physical interactions. If you want to have real sex and be proud of it, become a porn star. She also should not be proud of the sexualixation of a teenager, someone who still lives with and depends on their parents, someone too emotionally and intellectually under developed to be having sex, someone who is unable to even take care of themself. There is nothing deep or beautiful about this movie or sex scenes. There is nothing empowering. Just a couple of cheap whores.
The Hangover (2009)
If you enjoy infidelity, drug and alcohol abuse
I've seen the entire movie but it was not my choice. It's about 4 friends who go to Vegas and do disgusting things.
Sexualizing a baby by making it motion as if masturbating.
Drugging unknowing people.
Drugging an animal.
Infidelity.
Anyone who finds this movie and the acts in it amusing is a revolting person. 'It's a movie, nothing is real' but it encourages and endorses those behaviours. There is no true warning against drugs like people claim. It's basically saying you won't remember anything but you'll have the time of your life. Movies never show the consequences, that would be the real warning.
Who's Your Daddy? (2002)
Nope
I actually came across this when trying to watch a different movie on Pluto during chores, but selecting that would play this movie. I try to pick my movies very carefully because sex scenes make me insanely uncomfortable due to past trauma. Particularly promiscuous ones and of course rape scenes. Characters with established relationships don't bother me too much unless it shows/is audible for more than maybe 15 seconds. This movie starts off with a sex scene.
I did go watch the trailer in case it was just a bad opening and was a good movie (before reading reviews/comments) but that is obviously not the case.
The Wedding Ringer (2015)
Shoddy movie
The only things 'funny' about this movie were Gretchen's father in the beginning and the mains' dancing. Any chance at being further amusing was ruined by the dog scene. A gay guy dressed as a dog? Sure, no problem. Using a real dog implying they used it as sexual entertainment? Screwed up, regardless of whether or not anything is real. This movie is worse than The Interview, which at least gave me a few laughs and had much better acting. Scenes that would normally make me laugh, such as the kid getting nailed with a ball, didn't even receive a chuckle because it was bad acting. Everyone could have done better, especially Hart, who is typically hilarious. Very disappointed and disgusted. I would never recommend this movie as it's just that bad, and I'm a person that enjoys some poor films. However, this seems to be a less popular opinion. To each their own I suppose. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the movie as he did with The Interview.
