Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005)
Not necessary and far inferior to the 2004 version!
I just saw yesterday the 2004 version which somehow passed me back then, but I was greatly suprised how good the movie was. Pretty dark and with an intense atmossphere.
So I had high hopes for the 2005 version.
And now I am buffed. I see a similar movie, but inferior to every aspect. The actors around Skarsgard are much less capable here, pace is very slow, not intense and just not as good.
Now I read so ething about the troubled history of these two movies.
So just see the 2004 version and skip the 2005 version. It's not worth the time.
After all I'll give 5/10 for the 2005 version and for the 2004 version I would give 7.5/10. Well earned.
The Consultant (2023)
A rare Gem but only for a very limited audience
The cast is excellent. No doubt about this.
The optics serve well, also the soundtrack.
If you are a fan of Devs you will certainly like this show too.
The story may occur simple, after the unexpected and strange death of the owner of mobile game app company,
right out of the nothing a consultant appears.
Something dark and uneasy floats above everything,
Is the Consultant (Walz) pute evil, the devil, or just mad?
Everything is so ambigious. Is this a coincident or part of a greater plan?
This question appears every now and then.
As I said, the aufience for this kind of show is rather small.
In the end it's a love or hate thing.
The Simpsons (1989)
I used to be 10, now it's 5 the most
The first season was an experimental one, after that it became soon stellar and spectecular. The humor was precedented by none, quotes from various movies and also political criticism was so original. The humor was anarchical, hard and in your face. But that was back then.
At least this was true for the first 10 years so. But on the 30 years the original spirit got lost.
Completely.
Now it's a copy of itself and not a good one. The humor became flat and easy to consume for all.
And yes, Wokism has taken over, too. Nothing of the original anarchical humor survived.
But you will still notice three of four laughs still in an episode.
It's a shame.
The Last Duel (2021)
First dull but great ending
I had seen the trailer and expected an epic medieval knight movie.
But in the end it was a complete other movie.
Sometimes clever but mostly dull.
But after setting up everything the ends excel.
I must admit, Ridleys best times lies behind.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
For God's Sake, Why?
Totally unnecessary and pointless movie, and not funny at all.
And funny is the least thing that comes into my mind when it comes to Hitler.
You may want to see instead:
The Downfall
Schindler's List
The Boy in the striped Pijamas.
Singularity (2017)
The movie has some neat ideas!
But the execution is awful.
It's mainly a mixture between Terminator Salvation and the novel The Tripods. Let's say the setting (Europe) was somehow borrowed from this novel.
And I have seen really worse. So it was good enough to watch the movie to the end without getting sleepy,
I honestly would rate it with 4.5/10.
Los últimos días (2013)
Waste of time!
1-dimensional characters act totally silly.
Nothing more to say.
Escape Room (2019)
Basically it's Cube for the younger generation
All seen before. It's a mixture of Cube and Saw.
Yes, it's diverting but rather unispired,
Battleship (2012)
Highly entertaining trash
I know, I know, it's no Pi, it's no Requiem for a Dream, it's no piece of art.
But it is by far the most entertaining movie I have seen in years. Soundtrack is excellent for the job, humor is not infantile. Not one single minute of boredom.
And except movies like GI Joe (that one was unbearable) and Transformers (annoying) it really takes itself not serious at all.
And then there is this moment, where Battleship the movie is like Battleship the table top game. In a way it was brilliant.
And another thing: they stay true and didn't try to make a false 3d conversion to squeeze out the last cent.
