Us (2019)
Heavy Duty Acting For A Heavy Duty Subject
The theme presented by "Us" is quite a philosophical journey. Although the acting was solid, the movie still required a script to explain some basic concepts. This may be acceptable in a book, but, in a movie, one cannot interrupt the action with what is basically a narrative explaining what the heck is happening. On a horror film scale, "Us" is good. On visually presenting a relevant, deep concept, "Us" came close, but, no cigar.
Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)
A Merry Movie Within A Movie
I had never heard of Zack Galifianakis until Fern. For me, it passed the test of a comedy. I laughed. Even though I'm not a Will Ferrell fan, he even gave me a few guffaws. Stay for the credits!
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)
Kept My Attention
"Slow" movies put me to sleep, and I usually turn them off after ten or fifteen minutes. I found the characters compelling enough for me to "hang in there". I think the absence of the usual Hollywood cliche's and techniques kept my attention, also. The story itself is worth your time, but the attitudes and customs from a side of the world I have had very little contact with was quite educational. I would recommend seeing this movie. For me, it was enlightening. I would think there is something in there for you.
