The Bear (2022)
If your life lacks stress, anxiety and bad vibes...
...this is the show for you.
I am beyond amazed this show has a rating over 8.
Luckily I noticed I was not alone with my thoughts about The Bear. I was pretty late on the ball here. The praise knew no limits in media. "The best show of 2023" and so on. So my expectations were pretty high. But what did I see then? A stressy street kitchen with a bunch of people who works their ass off. No one gets along, fighting for survival, fighting against authorities, smoking, stressing, shouting, swearing, more stressing. Is that what people lack in their lives??? Well obviously. But I'm not one of them.
If you are, this is definitely the show for you.
Elvis (2022)
What the h👀ll was this?!!!
Cant believe people who gave this a 10 out of 10?!
Visually stunning I'll give it that. But where is the story? Where is the connection to the characters? And why did it have to be almost three hours?! (felt like six hours).
The first half of the movie is like a long rock video. The second half of the movie starts to feel like some sort of movie in the traditional sense. A movie where they try to tell some sort of a story. I get the feeling the first cut of this movie was something like five hours and they decided, in order to keep a lot of darlings in, they had to speed things up in order to get it down to under three hours. All I wanted was to get home. This was not a good movie.
The Offer (2022)
JUST LOVE IT!!!!
It don't get much better than this.
Don't know how much of it thats true to what actually went down but I guess a whole lot. The story and pacing is great. The cast is fantastic. And it would surprise me a lot if Miles Teller isn't the biggest star in movies/tv in like ten years from now. And Matthew Goode as Bob Evans is electric. What more can I say? I couldn't have asked for more. Bravo!!!!!!
Cry Macho (2021)
Why Macho?!
Its pretty hard to take in how this movie was even made.
And even more ungraspable how 90 plus Clint Eastwood had the urge to go: "I just have to make this one!!!"
Oh mama what a slow and pointless movie.
The story is thin as a sheet of paper. The acting is poor.
I feel nothing for any of the characters and its just nothing in it the film that holds up really.
I'm a big fan of Clint Eastwood but to see him spend the remaining of his days doing this is just pure sadness.
This is not how I wanted to see his journey end.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
What could have been so great
It had everything going for it. Interesting story and a lot of great performances. Unfortunately one very annoying performance which brings the show down. I woun't name names. And the ending was horrible. A part from that a nice watch. Really impressed by all the young actors.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
I think woke is what they aimed at
Love Rob Lowe and its a pretty nice time killer to watch.
But the whole woke-theme is pretty tiring and super obvious. The show is about a tight diversified little group of fire fighters. A gay guy, a trans guy, a muslim woman, and sure some straight people. Very woke. And it is set in the wokest of states...Texas!
Your Honor (2020)
What the....?!
Pretty good start. A bit rocky from a few episodes in. After that, a slippery slope downhill. And with an all time sucky ending. So sad to se the allways great Bryan Cranston waste his talent on this one. The show had great potential but wow did they blow it.
Tenet (2020)
Ok I get it allready! Christopher Nolan is a super genious.
I gave this movie one star which is a bit harsh. But when you have to obtain a doctors degree in physics to keep up, something is dead wrong. Sure, there are some great action sequences in it and to Nolans big credit there are few or if any green screens or cgi.
So thats cool. But the story and the time line?! Jeee suuuuzzzz. There is a lot of talk now about corona and cinema, and this movie was suppose to bring people back to theaters and because it didn't there is no use of trying. That annoys me! Tenet is just to damn complicated for a broad audience to comprehend. Nolan is a great movie maker no doubt. But once he doesn't have to prove how smart he is and actually makes a story one can keep up with, and doesn't run backwards two thirds of the movie, I'm certain people will return to movie theaters again.
Gisaengchung (2019)
High expectations on this one...
Well executed on many levels. But when a non english speaking film wins an Oscar for best picture, needles to say the expectations are really high, and for my money they did not reach all the way. Half way thru I felt it was promising, but the last half hour lowered the rating for me. Over all a good movie but no way nere fantastic.
1917 (2019)
Stunning Camera work - not the strongest story
World class craftmanship no doubt. And the intense camera work following the lead characters through the trenches and battlefields is mindblowing even if you can spot some of the places where the invisible cuts are made. But the story is not that great. An interesting thought is to imagine this film being edited in a more traditional way. In that case this would be a pretty big nothing I bet. But the camera work is fantastic which makes the picture worth seeing. Fine acting and great score aswell. Would surprise me big time if it doesn't win the Oscar for best cinematography and production design.
Peppermint (2018)
WOW!
Who greenlit this? What was the point? How can you make a hero so not likeable? How many times can you make the exact same pointless movie? How did this get a 6.5 rating? So many questions, so few answers.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
No matter how hard they try...
The problems with iconic films are that you want sequels but when you get them you wish they hadn't made them. When I saw this last one I felt almost nothing about any character. I felt almost no suspense at any given situation and my main concern was will this never end. I so wanted to like it but the characters are to pale. The four stars was for the over all world class quality of the production. Let's make something new instead. Over n out.
Unlocked (2017)
Surprisingly good spy flick!
Just saw it on Netflix. It looked like just another straight to bluray-movie but thought I'd give it a try. So needless to say my expectations were pretty low. Anyhow, it has everything one could ask for from a agent/spy/action thriller. Sure a bit cliche but good actors, great tempo and above all: a lot of turns. Not many dull moments in this one. Bravo!
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Feast for the eyes more than a solid story
I was a bit worried before seeing this one knowing it was just about shy of three hours. And its all there. The long scenes that doesn't lead anywhere and the plot is not super strong. I believe in order to appreciate this film you really must be a big film lover. I think the haters want a solid story with fast progress whereas the other half enjoys the details and the fantastic 1969 hollywood-universe Tarantino presents. Just beautiful. And Pitt and DiCaprio really hit it out of the park as do most of the other actors aswell. I enjoyed it even if the story is a bit weak. So if you are looking for a strong classic story this is not the film for you.
The Loudest Voice (2019)
What a performance by Crowe!
This is not exactly a review, more of a reflection. I'm just two eps in, but so far a great show and what a stellar perfomance by Russel Crowe. It would surprise me a lot if he doesn't fill his shelves with a bunch of accolades after this.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Good - not great... except Lady Gagas voice
Expectations were pretty high being so late on the ball and all but its a good movie, no more no less. Perhaps a bit long.
Its a good show case for Lady Gaga. She can really act and boy can she sing! Amazing voice. Nothing less than world class. Bradley Cooper is a great actor aswell and can also sing. Had it not been for those two I would propably give it a few stars less. All n all a good movie.
Long Shot (2019)
Funniest movie in a long time
Ok! Let's start of by saying that if you are looking for sometething that might have happend you should propably watch something else. With that said this movie is an absolute gem if you want to laugh. I was invited to a screening in stockholm and I had really low expectations since the trailer was a great big nothing. And if it weren't for the free ticket I would never have seen this. Such a well written dialouge and great delivery from the cast. And I am not a big Seth Rogen-fan, prior to this one, since he often is a bit over the top, but here he was toned down to a perfect level. This is a great romantic comedy that reminds me of all the great comedies they did back in the 80s/90s. Silly - YES! But absolutely wonderful! Bravo!!!
