God of War: Ragnarök (2022)
9/10 gameplay. 7/10 Story
This one is hard for me. God Of War (2018) is one of the best games (with one of the best stories) that I have ever played. As soon as I finished it I bought Ragnarök. Aaaand... It was great.
But I had this nagging feeling that something felt off. I replayed it on NG+ and noticed frustration with the pacing and writing.
Some sections of the game really drag it down, and they go ON for way too long.
The map layout of some realms are confusing and plain frustrating. At a certain point it just stops being fun.
And the biggest thing for me. It's very obvious that this was supposed to be 3 games. New characters get introduced and you barely have time to get to know them. How can I care about a characters self sacrifice if I don't know them.
It also feels weird to compare the character writing and depictions from 2018 and 2022. Could you imagine Baldur in the same world as Odin and Heimdall? They don't feel like they're from the same world.
Many important plot points from the previous game feel somewhat... Not important anymore. Jormngandr especially. Quick scene and there's that.
I will say the ending felt satisfying enough and I like the subversion we got.
Now to positives!
Even tho the new characters feel somewhat alien. I LOVE what they did with the Aesir gods. Odin oozes with charm and charmisma but is clearly super evil and manipulative, in a subtle way.
Thor is not just a power hungry war monger, but a broken, broken man who has been used his entire life as a hammer.
Heimdall is a complete douchebag with arrogance to power the whole of Asgard. But it makes sense with his powers.
The relationship between Kratos and Atreus is just as strong in this one. But we also get considerable development for Mimir, Freya, Brok and Sindri which is wonderful.
And my biggest compliment must go to the gameplay (most of it) the combat is deeper, more varied and has way more room for experimentation. There is far more incentive to try different builds and play styles. There isn't just ONE best armor, but several that can be used in different ways.
The enemy variety, thank you Santa Monica for listening. We got Dragr, humans, half Dead humans, wreiths, dragons, drakes, trolls, fauna, creepy Goblin things, creepy crawly things, and my favorite Traveller.
The boss fights are also more varied and fun. Valkaries return to frustrate us for hours and Berserkers take the spotlight as the new gamer rage enablers.
The side content is... Actually great? I liked the side stories in the first one but they were relatively simple and didn't take that long to complete.
The Crater ALONE took me several hours (not all for good reasons as I explained above)
So in conclusion. It's got MOSTLY excellent gameplay with some sections here and there that drag it down.
And a ambitious but overcrowded and weirdly paced plot that could benefit from a third game. But the characters (most of them) and relationships between them elevate it to something more.
All in all, I'd say it's still a great game that left me slightly dissapointed. Had I actually waited since 2018, I think I'd be heartbroken, but alas I did not.
Morbius (2022)
Don't see this movie PLEASE
This ain't a 1* movie. More like a 3-4. But I'm getting SICK of Sony producing these god-awful, soulless CGI blurs and trying to trick us that they're part of some Spider-Man universe.
I didn't pay for this, I watched it on a free pirsted site just to write this review. I urge everyone who sees this review to give this "film" a solid 1 star just to drag it down even more. I hate this more than Suicide Squad. Atleast that movie was INTENDED to be a movie made by a person. This was never that.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
I'm Shocked
So... I have been very dissapointed by the DCEU and how it has progressed. Man Of Steel is not my cup of tea (Altough I have warmed up to like it more and more) BvS is a beautiful mess with TONS of writing issues. Wonder Woman was GOOD but ruined by the ending. Aquaman is FUN but COMPLETELY jarring in tone and execution in the larger context of the universe. Shazaam is really good but again feels like its own thing.
Josstice League is one of the worst things I have ever seen snd I was sceptical to say the least when they announced that the Snyder Cut was going to release. "Same plot, same crappy villian, same hollow characters. What's the point?"
But my curiosity exceeded my doubts. I watched it... And watched it again, snf then one more time and I have realized that I. WAS. WRONG. Justice League is one of my favorite CB movies ever made. And I am BLOWN AWAY.
Let's get the negatives out of the way forst because let's be honest. It's not perfect. It's LONG and the first third is a bit slow and overstays its welcome. The music is sometimes really on the nose, and doesn't really fit. The CGI is kinda bad sometimes, the action (like in most ZS movies) is a bit... much. And yeah the movie drags a bit.
Beyond that it has GREAT character moments between Bruce and Alfred. Between Bruce and Diana, between Diana and Arthur. And it's always sincere. They feel like PEOPLE and the plot doesn't get in the way of the characters ever.
Steppenwolf went from a cringy, generic "bad guy" to a BADASS, damaged warrior with ACTUAL motivation. Dude just wants to go home and redeem himself of past mistakes. They made a good choice eith his eyes, they convey desperation and fear of Darkseid even tvo he's a big brooding monster.
Cyborg is such a gpod character that it PISSES ME OFF at how much his character suffered in The Whedon Cut. Best character in the movie by fat. Same with Flash. Guy went from a pathetic coward who's "big moment" was pushing a truck to saving the entire world.
The ending got the biggest update. We see them ACTUALLY working together, using combo moves and EVERYONE has a thing they meed to do in order to win. It was really satisfying to see.
Not gonna day more than: I loved this Movie snd I want more.
Family Guy: You Can't Handle the Booth (2019)
I don't get the hate?
I actually found this kinda original, clever and funny. People complain "just show us the episode, the commentary distracts". Yeeah cuz Family Guy is usually so full of heavy plot and deep subjects. This was atleast a fun new ONE OFF thing that made it a little bit more interesting.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
C'mon people. Atleast play it.
Like many people on here I actually PLAYED the game. I thought the story and the big "spoiler" sounded awful and I was majorly put off. But after looking a bit more at it I picked it up.
There ARE major writing flaws, especially in terms of pacing. At a certain point in the game there is sort of a jump back in time and you switch to another character to see that characters part of the story. This in and on it self I LOVED and actually gave me some perspective. But this segment is simply too long, and keep in mind that you are waiting to catch up to the events of NOW (with the previous character) and it kinda drags. Had they mixed it up and paced this sequences better (like chapters) I would probably given this a higher grade. Also the entire main plot sorta gets unresolved in a way and it was a bit of a let down. I KNEW beforehand about the spoiler and how the plot iniciated but I didn't know the ending or anything.
So seeing it with my own eyes I was like "alright I'm actually liking this, just give me a really satisfying conclusion as a reward for the hell that was this story"...well... I kinda got that but not really.
*MILD SPOILERS*
Overall this is a GREAT looking game, with gameplay not really better or worse than the first, with an ambitious story that's divisive, bold and pretty weirdly paced. I still recommend playing it tho!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Went in and expected to hate it and was still SHOCKED
The movie premiered in Sweden wednesday the 18:th. Me and my two friends watched in a VIP theatre where being QUIET is usually the way to go because you payed extra money for a nice experience. PEOPLE LAUGHED AT THE MOVIE, not with it. AT IT.
But let's start with the good stuff. I loved the arguments and banter between Rey, Poe and Finn, they had good chemestry. I liked some of the humor even tho it felt really tacked on at moments. Chewie had som great moments and ONE moment made me gasp (even tho the movie fooled me into emotion)
Eh... Some of the action was fun, I liked the first space chase it was really fun... The Sith temple of Palpatine and his followers was done really well, it had a creepy time and was something new for Star Wars.
That's about it, there are alot of smallet moments that I liked but it's hard to remember after just one viewing.
But the BAD is just too much. This movie is a MESS, it's obvious that J.J had to continue his ideas from TFA and try to retcon The last Jedi at the same time. FROM THE FIRST SCENE we are introduced to a slew of clunky exposotion, "my boy, I made Snoke!" like okey? How? Why? I trust the movie to give answers once again but no.
"You are Rey Palpatine!" Like... It's so bad.
My biggest problem is however the constant *WE HAVE A PROBLEM, WE NEED TO FIND A THING, BUT TO FIND THE THING WE NEED ANOTHER THING, AND TO FIND AND USE THAT THING WE NEED TO DE PROGRAM C3-PO SO HE CAN DO A THING, BUT THAT WILL ERASE IS MEMORY,ALRIGHT LETS DO IT, OH NO HE LOST HIS MENORY, BUT OH HERE COMES R2 AND GIVES IT BACK*
There are many such moment where an unnecesary threat comes upp and they introduce a new power or tool to handle it in the same scene.
Also the ending... It's beyond stupid. I wont say too much but Palpatine is BAD in this, like poorly written and poorly used. They made him SUPER powerful to the point of feeling like a fan film, The effects weren't even good which was kinda shocking. And then Rey does the most stupid thing to overcome him and you go "Oh so there was no point of making him powerful" BUT then something happened that actually was pretty good and I was pretty satisfied. And then it was ruined a couple of minutes later (if not seconds)
This is probably one of the bottom Star Wars movies to date. For different reasons than say Phantom Menace. This makes The Last Jedi look good and I'd rather watch that one again. Sorry Star Wars
Metaru Faito Beibureedo (2009)
I keep coming back... But why?
I have no particular nostalgia for the original series. I remember watching it from time to time but I don't actually remember the story. However I was pretty pumped about this series when the trailers played on Cartoon Network.
There are 3 seasons. Metal Fusion, Metal Masters and Metal Fury.
The main character is Gingka who, surprise! He wants to be the best blader in the world because he wants revenge for his fathers death. The first 10 episodes are your typical "get to know the main characters" episodes and have minor conflicts (most of which are orchestrated by Doji, who is one of the two main villians of the first season)
Then the main plot kicks in. Gingka and friends have to stop Ryuga and Doji from using the Forbidden Beyblade: Lightning L'drago. It's a pretty straight forward premise but in my opinion it's the character conflicts (yes there are these kinda stuff here) battles and ACTUAL motivational themes that kept me going. The battles are fun, exciting and for the MOST part creative. My main problem tho is how they can get predictable, a character usually loses at first, then picks himself /herself up and has a rematch (and Wins)
My favorite episodes tend to be the ones where Gingka loses, and in one case he has to start all over due to a loss and it was actually pretty powerful. The plot goes along like you'd excpect with a slight twist in the end.
Now the second season is a whoooole lot better in my opinion. More simple and straight forward- a world tournament. But this time there is ONE goal, not much filler. Just our team of Ginkga, three familiar characters and a new one from America, Who are trying to win the Beyblade world cup for Japan. There isnt really a main villian until pretty late but it doesn't feel forced because it still has to do with the tournament. The battles are SO MUCH MORE FUN, the new characters are much more interesting, The writing is better, the ending feels more epic and satisfying and I have never been so happy to see a certain bratty, spoiled kid get defeated in my life. 9/10 for this season
Metal Fury, the last season picks up RIGHT after Metal Masters and features ancient history, lights in the sky, a god... Wait what? Yes you heard me, a God in the form of a Beyblade, which is really dumb but it actually kinda works if you don't think to much about it. And a doomsday clock. Similar to the first season our Gang of bladers must stop the God Of Destruction: Nemesis (which isn't really accurate to greek or roman mythology), and to do this they need to track down 9 legendary bladers around the world. Ginkga and Kyoya are of course two of them. But hey I haven't mentioned Kyoya or Ryuga that much have I... Kyoya is Gingkas main rival, they're sort of friends but still not really, Gingka actually only beats him twice throughout the whole series and it's pretty established that they are VERY equal (which means they are both the SECOND strongest) speaking of rival... AND strongest... Ryuga... Damn what a character, you can say whatever you want about the writing for this show, yes it is sloppy but Ryuga is an EXCELLENT character. He is of course the main villian of the first season (kinda, you have to watch to understand) then he is an anti hero. He helps when he feels like it. Then in the last season he goes back to more of a villian role as he himself is trying to obtain the power of the legendary bladers, so you hate him, but respect him to loving his badassery. Also a very annoying character from the first two seasons really steps up in this one to become a strong blader of his own, never giving up (which pays off in the end)
All and all this season is a bit weird, it's shorter, but instead of just having fewer episodes they began airing shorter episodes after a certain point in the season, it does feel pretty rushed but I don't know what they could have done. It is tho, pretty fun to see the season start off pretty innocent and getting pretty dark and depressing towards the end.
This series has a special place in my heart, I keep going back (all of the episodes are on Youtube) I know it's pretty corny, stupid and weird but somehow I don't care. It makes me laugh, it manages to make me cry (for real, I'm not even kidding, I'm almost 20 and it has a few really sad moments) and it makes me excited, what more can I ask for? I'm not expecting anyone to watch it, it has just stuck with me for 10 years now and I can't get over it.
That's my really long, sentimental review of this really insignificant show, complete with spelling errors, sloppy writing and over simplifications.
Spider-Man (2018)
A human, heartbreaking story
I expected this to be a pretty good game. With som fun boss fights, swinging and fast paced combat. Well you GET all that, but the real star is the story and characters.
*SPOILERS*
The first time I we meet Otto Octavius I was like "no not again" but then he turned out to be a nice guy, and a good mentor to Peter and I suddenly felt strange... I actually CARED about these characters in a video game, and I realized that I didn't want to see this man become evil. It was really really REALLY well done and setup.
All The other things are GREAT too, Martin Li, while a LITTLE obvious he was a villian, he was done so well and ties in to the different characters very well.
The boss fights are... Okey, the Electro and Vulture fight is really good. And the final fight is really great, not just because of the mechanics and combat but more so the drama and character conflict.
This is one of the best games I've ever played, up there with the Arkham Series, Assassins Creed II and Half Life
