Hawking (2004)
Enjoyed this more than Theory of Everything
Mostly a story about Hawking's earlier years as he started on his academic journey and dealing with the onset of ALS. Heartfelt performance by Cumberbatch, I did choke up a bit at the end so be warned. Underrated movie and worth a watch.
Ted Lasso: Midnight Train to Royston (2021)
No Fate But What Nate Makes
It's not unusual for the bullied to become the bully, after all it's the only interaction you know and it's more realistic to see him go this way. There's been hints of his underlying rage and nastiness when he threatened Will in Episode 8.
One thing I didn't notice in previous episodes was Nate's grey hair. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate choice of the crew to show him as older, which in turn makes him a more pathetic character having gone nowhere in life until now and still living with mum and dad. I can see why Nick Mohammed was also nominated for an Emmy, a surprising amount of range for the character who started off in the series seeming to be a one dimensional dweeb type character.
It'll be interesting to see which arc the writers take with Nate. Will he become a genuine villain or is redemption possible?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Last Day Pt 2 (2021)
Stuck the Landing
It's difficult for a multi season television series to wrap up it's run with a perfect ending and some shows have been left wanting in the wash-up, but I feel that B99 absolutely nailed it.
Full of the laughs we've come to expect throughout the shows run, there were easter eggs for the fans of the show.
The heartfelt dialogue of the final episode felt more like the actors talking to each other, than the characters, B99's finale is one for the ages.
Star Trek: Discovery: Vaulting Ambition (2018)
Mind blowing
Even though the signs were obvious in hindsight in regards to this weeks twist, I did no pick where this was going. Absolutely remarkable and enjoyable. I was scrolling through some of the early reviews ripping into this show and they're looking pretty silly now, there was a review titled "boldly going nowhere" - this show is anything but.
