Screamtime (1983)
Don't play with video puppets or voyeuristic intentions. 😳
Thus I stand here today as to why I think this a great movie. I live in the throwback era of the retro videos. Video stores were crucial to my existence in the 1980s. My mom gave me permission to checkout R rated movies on her video card. Needless to say it was on. Screamtime was one of my first experiences into anthology pictures. I can't believe all this time later I am seeing it again like the first time. Made me laugh back then and blew my mind recently. Times haven't changed. People are still dicks and always will be. Just watch and see. Sometimes I ramble, but when I do it's a about time to do so.
Blades (1989)
Mows and Tickles the FUNNY BONE!
The best thing about this movie is that it takes itself not so serious at it's "over the top" approach. Hits right on the nose even in today's "pc" climate, as well as it pokes fun at the the price of fame. The Oscar winning acting really blew me away on a fresh summer day. This feature is on the serious level like rockers and shockers: CADDYSHACK and HAPPY GILMORE. We should pay more attention to the sports we surround ourselves with. Sometimes someone can get into a sport and get so obsessed that they will over do it to the point of a mental breakdown. I really feel that this movie made me relapse into alcoholism. Great film!
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Too Much is Too Much... Cryin'
People wanted something good, something gory and then complained. Drowning in Easter Eggs this re-sequel of EVIL DEAD lives up to it's predecessors by never letting up. It runs a muck with such class that you will have to watch it again to see how much. Ambiguous characters overflow off the screen and get into your mind. Pretty decent scares and gore in this one for the gorehound. All of the references and potential for a sequel are there, but this one carries it's own. Considering it was just supposed to streaming service Giant HBO MAX, but it's just MAX doesn't surprise me. They have great movies and content in that channel.
Gretel & Hansel (2020)
An artsy horror film.
A grim, but beautiful film that is not for mainstream audiences. This is subtle, not boring. A slow burner.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
FOR EVERYDAY PEOPLE
I really enjoyed this film and I'm not a fanboy or critic. I didn't see Suicide Squad so I walked into this as an outsider. For a popcorn flick I was pleasantly surprised by the way it felt as if it was two films in one. Yes HQ did dominate, but did anyone think that this was a decision made because an HQ exclusive movie wouldn't satisfy? Birds of Prey needed a backstory so we got a 2 for 1 deal. DC is not constrained by ratings and are trying to appeal to an adult audience (like Joker before), but will probably suffer in the end. I have to say this one satisfied. Seeing it in the Dolby Theatre was great. Black Canary hitting her first note early on was a great use of low frequencies which rocked my world. Margot is awesome in pretty much anything she touches...
Unaccompanied Minors (2006)
Christmas Can't Save This One
Suspension of disbelief is required, but will not help this disaster of a film that seems so scattered and reckless.
Beastly (2011)
Pretty Bad
I was hoping for something better.
It dragged along even for a 90 minute movie.
Backdraft 2 (2019)
This isn't a "Chicago Fire."
So cheaply done that it wasn't even filled in Chicago. There is no emotional attachment to the characters and is very sparse on action. Watch if you'd like to take a nap.
Jurassic School (2017)
Get schooled!
Everyone knows dinosaurs love being in a park; they are just no good in school. This is more about overcoming a challenge than anything else. Great for kids.
Little (2019)
Flawed, but cute
A cute movie that helped me get out of my head. The cast was terrific with the material that was given to them. I do think it was a little long (could've been shaved down to 90 minutes).
The Intruder (2019)
Far fetched, but fun
Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride. It causes some great scares and surprising laughs. I did, however, find that it did bait the viewer and tried too hard define the "Boogeyman."
All-American Murder (1991)
Burn Baby Burn/Walken in his sleep
This movie should be burned. The writing, acting and direction are horrific. Great cast, but it's wasted and they seem to be just going through the motions.
Mother of the Year (2017)
Home of my dreams
This is the best movie to fall asleep to. I start watching it and immediately feel like I took a sleeping pill. The acting is bad, the flyovers are overused and the story is unbelievable. I know it's based on true events, but this has to be exaggerated.
Beetlejuice (1988)
I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A B+
Definitely a "B" movie that has garnered front-runner establishment. A fluke that proves it's important on so many levels!
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015)
FULL OF SCHMIDT
Funny, quirky comedy with a revolving door of great actors. I just wish it was more about Kimmie and less about Titus (he's annoying at times).
Roller Town (2011)
Move over "ROLLER BOOGIE"
This film had me "rolling" with laughter. So light hearted and inspiring. Definitely one of the best skating movies ever made.
Sleepwalkers (1992)
One "cop kebob" coming right up.
Original, over the top fare with a side of cats. Garris and King cook up one hell of a romp in this dark fairy tale. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll squirm.
Attack of the Killer Donuts (2016)
I'd like a baker's dozen please.
This movie made me laugh and quiver so much I couldn't control my bowels. If I looked away from this gem of a movie I would spew chunks everywhere. I didn't mind because this film is sweet!
