FUBAR (2023)
I ain't mad at it...
The harsh reviews are just harsh. When you turn on this show, you aren't going for something that is Emmy or Oscar material. However, I can tell you that you will be entertained. The characters all work well together. There are some faces you will ask yourself, "where have I seen that person??" and go hunting for their past material. You won't be disappointed. Arnold does a good job. He does give off True Lies vibes but it works. Fortune steals every single scene that she is in. She is an absolute hoot and will always make you laugh. If you want some laughs, be entertained, and try to solve the problems along with them as they do, go for it.
True Lies (2023)
You have to move past the movie, not be immersed in it.
I wasn't sure how I would like this series. I loved the movie. It is one of those movies where you can sit and laugh out loud. After the first episode, I wasn't sure about this. I stuck with it and I am actually enjoying it. You have to move beyond a few things. First, this is not the movie. The first episode sets up the series. None of the rest of the episodes are like that first one. Second, the humor is not the same. This is not set up to be a comedy. It is more of an action show. There is cool tech, good sequences, etc. There is some comedy but it's not Tom Arnold. And third, you have to get over the thought that this is goofy Van, Reba's son in law. Steve Howey is showing that he is so much more than just that one character.
If you want to watch a show and be entertained, then watch it. It's got a little action, a little humor, and a teeny bit of romance. But if you want to watch a show, pick it apart, and say all the thing that it's not, then just move on.
The Noel Diary (2022)
A good flick for thinking
I read through some of the reviews while watching the movie. Things that some thought were plot holes could have been, but other things were easily figured out. The writers made their characters multi-faceted. If you looked beyond the surface and tried to place yourself into their traumatic lives, a lot of their quirks/actions were easy to figure out and/or understand.
If the watcher does not have any experience in adoption, it will not be understood why a character makes a choice at the end. I do have experience with it and can totally understand her reasoning.
Overall I enjoyed the movie. To me, I can imagine a possible sequel. There are still a ton of growth options for the leads.
A Hollywood Christmas (2022)
Get over wanting a 10/10
You have to get beyond wanting a 10 out of 10 Hallmark movie. If you want a Hallmark movie go to Hallmark. This is on HBO. I stumbled across this one by accident and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the fact that it played off of the cheesy romcom was perfect. It showed the other side of moviemaking, not the three week perfection that other studios give. There was the main character with the flaw they didn't see, the goofy sidekick, the classic misunderstanding, and the unpacking of feelings. Oh yeah, it also had some romance as well. If you can get beyond wanting the perfect movie, this really isn't a bad movie. There are a few familiar faces as well. Just try it and form your own opinion. As a matter of fact, this movie made me hop on here and look for other movies that some of these characters are in.
Father Christmas Is Back (2021)
Try it yourself, form your own opinion
I put this in my category of "things to have on while I'm still playing on my phone". If you are looking for an Oscar winner, no, this is not the one. But I looked up from my phone a few times and was entertained. I liked the cast, the story wasn't bad, and it was a fun watch.
Out of Death (2021)
My wife's Hallmark movies have better acting
For real! Bruce.... What happened??? I had high hopes cause of you, but dang.... I had to shut it off. I couldn't believe that it was that bad, Like, the part in the woods where they talk about the spotty service, but yet everyone is on their phone.
The Baker's Son (2021)
It's cute! Worth the watch.
If you were expecting an Oscar for best pic, then yeah, you will be bummed. But if you want to watch a cute flick, then this is for you. There are a few actors who stand out in this film. The part where the actor who played Walter the mayor, is 'cheersing' the ballet and tells them about life insurance, realizes it was awkward and walks away, cracked me up. My son (who laughs at me and my hallmark movies) walked by and said, "that is the best acting and most hilarious facial expression I've ever seen out of any Hallmark character ever. That guy wins!"
Artemis Fowl (2020)
If you didn't read the book, it's fine
We did this as a family movie night. Only my son had ever read the series. Knowing that when books are made into movies there are changes, my son had no major complaints. I'm not going to write a review like I work as a critic. It wasn't bad, kept us entertained, and it would be nice to see a sequel.
Life of the Party (2018)
It made us laugh
Listen, if you go to this movie thinking that you are going to see the next Oscar winner OR are going to gain 25 IQ points, then yeah, you will be bitter. But, if you just want a good laugh, then watch it. As a matter of fact, there was one scene that we all laughed so hard we had to pause it. Maya Rudolph steals her scenes and looked like she genuinely had a good time filming it. If you have no expectations, you should crack up.
Christmas Wedding Planner (2017)
Holy crap - after reading the reviews I STILL watched it
Wow. Kelly R and Joey F were the ONLY reasons this got two stars. I still like them and won't blame them for this movie. I'm not an actress so I will not critique the acting skills of any of the new faces. And I truly wanted to prove other reviews wrong. I really did. I wanted to be able to do the old 'compliment sandwich'. So here goes...."the opening credits were a decent readable font, but then there was this horrific and unbelieveable script, but did you see the readable font for the ending credits?? It was great."
Ocean's Eight (2018)
Not too shabby
I think it did start a little slow but you do have to set it up. Some scenes were predictable. It is an Oceans movie after all. They want you to get comfortable in what you are watching. There are some good cameos and a good ending.
Once Upon a Prince (2018)
It's cute...and a Hallmark movie
If you are expecting an Oscar winner, move on. It's a hallmark movie. They are cute and fun because they are pretty predictable. Even my 15 year old son can walk by and guess the whole thing in 2 min.
Move beyond that though. The two main leads were finally new(er) and different. The setting (although the same) was supposed to be different. They modernized it.
My big complaint - if it's set in Georgia, film it in Georgia. They did this with another one and it was almost insulting. Change it up from Vancouver. When the settings are the same all the movies run together.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
A really good film overall
For people who want something reworked and entirely new, I didn't think this was it. But if you want to see a human adaptation of the classic, I think that this is a very good version. I thought it was a great movie. There are a few little twists and turns that change it up just enough to keep you wondering. As for La Fou and the concerns that some have had about the film
. Truth is, the movie does not make him 'flaming' and there are very subtle, and very few, references to his or any characters sexuality. I saw this movie with a few moms and the scene that no one had seen yet, but had the fit about, could easily be passed off as something else. We even heard a child of about 8 years old ask her mother after the movie, "So what was the thing that everyone was all flipping out about?" If you want to sing along (in your head) and tap your feet, this is a good movie.
Ghostbusters (2016)
If you are looking for an Oscar winner, no. To have fun, yes
I am not sure what in the heck people were expecting with all of the bashing going on. I laughed. I never once thought it was man hating. Never thought of racial stereotypes either. But I did think to laugh at the hilarity of it. It doesn't copy the original but it does have some parallels. There are some good cameos and for someone who did see the original in the theater years ago, I think I can say that this one is OK. They did use Kate McKinnon a few times for too long, I agree with that. But you knew that was going to happen. If you take yourself too serious, then don't go. But if you like to have fun and laugh, go for it. I did go to the 3D version, but I have heard the 2D was just as good. However, I do think that some of the ghosts had to have looked better 3D.
