Fall (2022)
Frustrating but still a decent flick
For what it is Fall is a OK movie that if just a few more of the glaringly obvious plot holes would have been plugged maybe it could have been really good. I'm sure the climbers out there know more about the plot holes that pertain to their expertise but as a construction worker, who actually used to build and tear down towers, and as someone who in my opinion like has just a little general common sense this movie frustrated the hell out of me! LOL! So as not to get a spoiler tag added to my review I can't state them here but just watch the movie and maybe take a tally of how many you find. I found at least a dozen! Haha. If you don't hear yourself say "why didn't they just"... at least a handful of times please refer to my previous comment on common sense. No judgments here but you might be lacking a little! Lol! JK.
The Peripheral (2022)
Solid all around!
The Peripheral is one of my favorite series this year. Horror & Action Sci-fi are definitely my jam so this review will be a little biased. Though a little confusing at times it has great acting from all involved with super interesting characters and decent pacing. If I had to pick one thing I didn't like about it it would be that even after watching the entire first season I'm still a little bit confused as to how things work. From things being named words none of us have ever heard and then having them not clearly explained to really being in the dark for many episodes as to why the story was even unfolding the way it was. Good acting, an interesting story, and lots of action helped make up for that though. It's one that I highly recommend and can't wait for season 2!
Let the Right One In: More Than You'll Ever Know (2022)
Too many holes in this episode
Try to make me believe it's plausible. Yes I know this is a fantasy world based on vampirism but at least try! For instance climbing into a sewer after what they now know to be a killer vampire with nothing more than a flashlight! Especially after Zeke seems to know everything about vampires and yet still doesn't say "hey why don't we grab a stake or two before going down here" (eye role). Second is we've been told from previous episodes that Eleanor is twice as strong as Zeke and her dad mark put together yet mom and dad are able to hold her down and tie her to the bed! (2nd eye role) It's little things like that that are missed that irritate a viewer and draw them away from being engrossed into an episode or not. Easy fixes but it was obviously enough to draw me away for this review. I know I may sound like I'm nitpicking a little too much but I personally like to feel as if I could be right there with them. Like I'm going through what they're going through, making the same decisions they would make. Like the creators of the show care as much about what is being made as I care about what I'm watching.
I absolutely love anything horror and have watched all the previous takes on Let the Right One In so I'm trying to make this work, and for the most part it's doing an okay job, but it seems like they just threw it out there instead of taking their time with it and creating something brilliant. With as little quality we can get out of this genre today I'd really like for What Little we can to be of good quality.
Out of the Wild (2019)
GREAT FILM BUT NOT A HORROR MOVIE!!!
If you're tuning in to see a good horror western like Bone Tomahawk or The Burrowers then this is definitely not your movie! By no stretch of the imagination does this even resemble a horror movie. Now that doesn't mean it's not a good movie, I rather enjoyed it, but as I was looking for something similar to the movies I previously stated it was definitely a letdown in that manner. It's almost like they thought because it had a scene or two with a little blood in it that automatically makes it horror. Well if you're a super fan of the horror genre like I am you'll know that's not the case.
If you're looking for a decent little movie with a good comeback story this one's for you. If you're looking for a horror movie... you'll need to look somewhere else.
The Retaliators (2021)
It was ok... just ok though
First off horror is my favorite genre and I've watched just about everything out there worth watching. I consider myself to be a somewhat manly man who enjoys lots of action and bloody action at that! After watching the trailer I figured this was definitely the movie for that and I was really looking forward to it!
My first problem is that it took way too long to get to any of that action I previously spoke of and second it had more of a slapstick feel to it instead of a straight up "kick butt, take names" feel that I definitely would have preferred for this type of movie. It's like they couldn't figure out who they wanted to be so they figured they would try both which for me just didn't work. If they would have just went with the same stuff they gave in the trailer, and doled out a lot more of it, I think it would have really worked good.
I give it a 5 out of 10 because again it was okay but could have been something great!
A Ghost Story (2017)
Please don't waste 90 mins of your life on this snooze fest of a movie!
Warning! Though my review doesn't have spoilers I still feel required to warn you that this movie just might be one of the worst films you ever have the displeasure of watching. How it has a combined score of over 2 simply blows my mind! I read an article about how the director almost gave up halfway through making it yet here it is. Evidently not one reasonably sane person stepped in during the making and said STOP! This is trash! From the exacerbatingly long still frames to the almost non-existent dialogue this movie can be summed up as pointless. Okay I'm done. I hope I've made my point clear enough that I might save one of you from losing 90 minutes of your life to this dumpster fire of a movie. P. S. We can do better.
The Old Man: V (2022)
Great series up to this point
Can't tell if it's the directors or the writers of this episode but it feels like this might be turning into more of a soap opera instead of an action packed spy thriller.
