The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
"Resurrections" more like "Remastered"!
Remastered? Well, pick up the story you have, reskin a few of the characters and you have a sequel.
When you see "The Animatrix" which it picks up the concept and shows it in different lenses masterfully, and then you see this it's disapointing, they barely add anything for a sequel and made a poor "mastery"!
I think what people are missing in these reviews is a broader picture of a trend targeted to my generation, the Millennials, "milk" the nostalgia from them, it seems to work at least in other products (games/books/movies).
Eventually, even the most blindsided will understand that after you experienced something once it will never be the same (most likely it will be worst). Which is what happened here!
Draugen (2019)
Isolation, Loneliness, Parting...
Tells the tale an American naturalist visiting a Norwegian fishing village, looking for his sister, just to find that the whole town's population had vanished, joining him on the quest that lasts 6 days, a "kid" of 17 years old, lets call her a "companian". If u know anything about "Isolation, Loneliness, Parting..." u will understand this game, the storyline is short but superb, psycological, where you will have to fill the gaps for what happened to the town and yourself. Lots of walking (people complain), but you will hardly notice cruising such beautiful landscape. Can be played at every age, but every decade of your life you will experience it diferently, similar to "Alice in wonderland".
Kvinden i buret (2013)
If you like "True Detective" more then "C.S.I" then this is for you!
The point that I should start is the official title, "The girl in the cage", I prefer by far the worldwide title since it focus more on the protagonist (has an off-topic: the Italian title makes it sound like a documentary). If you like the old drama/mystery/crime movies like I do, you will love this one, doesn't add really nothing to the gender, but it's so well produced and the acting was on point, got to love when you see an actor, Nikolaj L. Kaas in this case, waking up in a realistic way, the mood of the whole movie brings you to that slow passing detective drama, rare in our days, with all the CSI around, and ends up with a very thrilling ending.
TL;dr - Noir nordish mood crime/drama
Open Grave (2013)
It's "The Cube" but in B rated horror movie, at least it looks like it.
I quickly browsed on the reviews and can't really understand the good reviews, but well everyone is entitled to his opinion. For me its quite simple, horrible acting, there is no real mystery, its a very predictable end, there are scenes that I even said: "this is really bad acting" it's not a very common sentence from me. In the other hand (let's see if there is something good) the story-line has a good passing, well it's pretty much it.
TL;dr A group of people wake up with amnesia, with trust issues between them, they try to figure out what made them be in that place all together. In sum it's not worth it, "The Cube" is way better, and that one was much cheaper, for sure.
La migliore offerta (2013)
Miss Love and all her passionate quirks...
(there are no clear spoiler in this review, but yet a few hints, so beware)
After watching this piece, I reminisce a very important "piece" of my own personal life. Passive/aggressive love, how thrilling, manipulative and fervent it can be. My father (if he was around) would have said in my long lost teen years: "don't search for love right now kid, first u need to bang your head a few times" I relate to that in this movie. Who said that u are innocent only when u are young? One of the saddest feeling there is, is reflected in the last 3 sentences of this "piece".
"Claire: Oh Virgil, if anything should ever happen to us, I want u to know that I do love u!" ... "Waiter: Are you on your own, sir? Virgil Oldman: No, I'm waiting for someone."
TL;dr This movie is about romantic love, the eternal hope of finding it, the constant anxiety/yearning during it and the dread of loosing it.
Stoker (2013)
The drive to murder, but from another perspective;
When I look back, I have to highlight the sound design, emphasis on the ambient sounds, the photography and the attention on the detail, several times u see the cropping of the frame for this effect, and by all means the breathtaking work of Mia, which favored us with hints of eroticism, ataraxia and a predator thrill. Do u know that feeling when u see a quiet dog in the street, it's cute, u want to caress it and as u go closer and closer u see it's face change and u step back? that's the exact feeling I have in some of Mia's scenes. I just remember felling this with Rosamund Pike on Gone Girl.
I have to strongly recommend this artistic intake on murder, let's call it a much better Dexter.
It Follows (2014)
Not your typical teen picture but a "very slow passing" horror movie.
Well this is my first review, don't expect much. Maybe there is a deeper meaning in this that I completely failed to acknowledge, but...
Plot: A teen is scammed by her boyfriend to have sex with her, so he could pass on the curse that haunts him and then she has to do the same to others or she will be "followed" for the rest of her life.
For me its a very slow passing picture, with a short story line for a 1:30h movie. The fact that when she is haunted, it's by an entity that just walks in a slow manner kills all the suspense and terror of the movie, I think this is why they make zombies run these days?! WWZ and I am legend comes to mind.
To be fair, the continuous suspenseful music is very filling and I loved the photography between scenes, as a matter a fact that's probably what I love the most in this one, the "offscenes".
This one it's clearly not your typical teen movie, and has some highlights, but it lacks the foundations in the gender, wait, I can't really say that, it has horror (although not scary) and it has mystery, but it's just... too weak *shrugs*.
Tl;dr: paranoia, promiscuity, sexuality, claustrophobia, egocentrism and friendship, that sums up the whole film.
