Idi i smotri (1985)
Artistically great
Worth seeing as it tells a dark aspect of WWII that seems as to not be known in foreign countries other than former country-members of Soviet Union. As it comes for the film itself, its artistic side is extraordinary. It has a specific tone with a lot of scenes that are consider to be a metaphorical (or maybe even surreal) way of showing the terror which those people experienced. Moreover, merely the shots with the protagonist's facial expressions, which are highly reminiscent of "The Scream" painting, is a great example of both the artistic side and the specific tone.
Highly recommended, especially for war-movies-to-see lists.
Shaft (2019)
A Non-Expected Fun
I haven't seen any of the other Shaft movies yet, so I just seated to watch this one with no expectations at all and I can define this movie with one word: it's funny. And of course the biggest source of that fun was Samuel L. Jackson and his undeniable gift to bring his scrip in the most sarcastic and comedic way. (Right, you MotherFacker?!) I'm not a big fan of Hollywood comedy movies, so I was genuinely surprised that I found myself laughing with this one. A positive thing which automatically makes the movie such a good comedy is the fact that it did not try to censor the humor and it let the audience escape at least for a moment from the "political correctness". Still the movie lacks a good story-telling, especially with the case that Shaft was investigating which was hard to follow for me. Basically it didn't make any coherent sense and maybe it does not suppose to.
If you looking for a good-time, funny and pleasant 2 hours give it a try.
