Nefarious (2023)

Dark slow moody intense

Be aware. This is not a fast action scene movie.

Instead it's intelligent, clever twisted and quite a script.

Exceptional acting and scene setting. A really dark brooding slow story with excellent script and hidden meanings and plots. Asks big questions and concepts.

Slow, dark, and I mean Very very slow moving that draws you in like a good book read.

Artfully made. Good acting from each character.

Sound track is really good too, opening scenes set an atmosphere.

Stick with this movie for it's your king of thing.

You will know within 30 minutes if it's a movie you enjoy or not. Quite rare to find one like this.

Road House (2024)

Doesn't touch the classic Swayze version. But still a decent movie with a decent start. Jake G was good, starts out well enough but screams out 'let's try hard to be similar' but different - kinda runs flat tough.

Love the fact theirs a dopey helpful baddie.

Jake G suits the role really well Coast setting really amazing to see.

Great action scenes but then gets a little flat and too C/m Gregor centred. I was disappointed in his too OTT acting later.

Just kinda flattens out Made me want to watch the original though Oh Jake for James Bond role Think he'd make a great 007.

Sisu (2022)

Epic action

Wow. Epic action, revenge and story. Beautifully filmed in amazing baron landscapes, with intense action and violence along with glorious revenge.

Captures the retreat and run down element of the callous scorched earth tactic. Introduction sets the story.

Every actor was cast for their part so well, gritty and stylish. The costumes again superbly observed.

A non stop battle or wills, greed, evil and new ways to dispose of the enemy.

If you like modern action war movies, this will be for you. The direction and styling was just sublime.

Every moment was considered cinematography from the sunlight angles to the gloomy darkness.

Metal Lords (2022)

Uplifting comedy with a razor's edge of fun

Decided to finally watch Metal Lords, and loved every moment of the high school comedy and great rock dreams. Some skilled music playing and great metal tracks as well as touching emotional acting and meaningful moments. A pleasure to watch and laughed and smiled at it.

Soundtrack is great. Acting excellent.

The unexpected twists will make you laugh and cry, and groan at people's stupidity as well as people's kindness. Great live music atmosphere moments caught well too.

How in earth did I not see this when it came out!

So many music references and different youth and music lifestyles mixing, and inspirational too.

Right, I have my metal homework list to work through.

Loudermilk (2017–2020)

A deep slow breath of fresh (ish) air

Dour, sarcastic, cutting, sad-funny brilliance.

Loving first series - I've seen criticism about future series etc... hope the fact I do not like Loudermilks dad episode and the off shoot Cutter /Tom side story but... everything else is just brilliant cringe laugh out loud.

Enjoying series 1 a lot. Very addictive, and easy to become very invested in the characters and observational humour, his obsessive views on music and how it drives his life.

Found this series by chance, and recommend to anyone with a kook view or life and humour.

Great relationship chaos and missed chances between flat neighbours and LMilk. Enjoyable show.

Project Wolf Hunting (2022)

Action, horror, twisting story line and buckets of gore.

Very good Korean horror action movie - but be *warned: highly excessive amounts of blood & gore gratuitous violence is used. This builds the characters up as what they are, psychopathic prisoners. This does serve a purpose and set a tone for the film though. The storyline is a good one, with a twisting plot turning every claustrophobic narrow passageway and corner not dread and fear. A very good Horror suspense and shock action. Enjoyed this romp into hell with several stories and twists all converging into a living hell for all involved. Shocks galore and twisted battle for survival ensues. I have a feeling that this will get a Hollywood remake soon. (But without the gallons and gallons of blood with the gore). I prefer the Korean cinema crime drama and action but this was a great surprise movie. Even though my other half had to look away during the gore.

The Gates (2023)

Brooding supernatural gothic mystery

Once I saw this film was set in 1890, I had a feeling this would be the dark supernatural gothic mystery I'd hoped for. Well made, great locations and mix of occult that kept you on edge of seat.

Great Victorian era paranormal detectives getting caught up in more than they expected they would.

Some great jump scares but also some great slow build ups.

I had problems with the sound, speech quality was often low so it was difficult hearing some of the mumbled lines in certain scenes.

It did think it went on a little too long, but fans of paranormal and science clashing will love it.

Very enjoyable.

The Pope's Exorcist (2023)

At last a new brooding horror

Russel Crowe is just sublime on this role. A very spooky engrossing and cleverly made movie based on the real Vatican's Exorcisms team. Crowe is ideal as the old school slightly jaded, tired but knows his duty and relishes on his reputation.

I do like deep scary movies that don't rely on just gore and this delivers. It delivers us from evil!

It does draw downs good points out about old school belief in paranormal and new lack of acceptance.

Slow building suspense and classic supernatural horror moments. Really enjoyed this film, had some nice twists. Great locations too.

Quiet hard to find these scary well made ones.

Run Sweetheart Run (2020)

A film of two halves

Starts well. Exciting, mysterious atmosphere.

Pans out into a dark survival mix of The Purge,The Hunt/Ready or Not montage promise.

Some great moments of 'oh no this is a bad idea' foreboding horror warnings.

Grows enjoyably with a dark atmosphere, a meeting / date / becomes more than with a good solid lead cast and support.

A good growing paranormal undertone develops then... bam! Turns into a mess of obtuse metaphors and old cliches mixed with modern life pressures worries and messages which are just runs out of steam and time rushed school essay ending' B movie I did enjoy it, despite some dragged out parts.

Some nice twists in the ideas but... Had so much more potential.

Try harder next time.

Really well made, rollercoaster ride of an action movie. Edge of seat. Ok some cliches but superbly made and handled movie. Enjoyable fun.

Action scenes are frantic and there's some amusing moments.

Excellent pace, building horror and suspense throughout. You ask yourself 'what would you do' in this situation?

Some real tense clever directing and building up moments that are on par with Hitchcock movies.

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

Rambo Rampage part worth waiting for...

Nicely set up start. Rambo looks good for his age but does do some stupid things in the first half of the movie. Guess that's what happens when you own the franchise and no one pushes back on script.

Starts to drag a bit, many cheesy cliche ridden parts but you get a good sense of a building good old Rambo Rampage. And are not disappointed.

Revenge is sweet, brutal and insanely OTT great fun and violent as expected. Novel rewind moments.

Murder on the Home Front (2013 TV Movie)

Charming exciting and fun period drama.

As a fan of crime detective dramas, I found this an enjoyable who-dunnit murders, red herrings in wartime London. Reminded me of Strike, Poirot, 39 steps all mixed up. Fab one liners in there too.

This would make a good TV detective series.

Upgrade (2018)

Very good atmospheric movie

Great atmosphere and soundtrack accompanying adrenaline bursts of action and dark humour. I actually said WTF at one scene just as the lead actor did too... very good twists and turns.

Have this a high score as the acting and characters were just superb. Enjoy.

Sputnik (2020)

New twist for horror

Just hypnotically wonderful, intrigue and slow paced threat and danger lurk in the background of this really well styled Russian movie. Something soothing about retro brown and orange old Russia.

Really enjoyed the well controlled uncertainty throughout, even through we thought we know.

Clever movie.

Great fun with twisty plots and turns all over. Some genuine hilarious gags, one liners and movie in jokes. This was just pure silly horror comedy fun. PS How can demons be so gorgeous too!

Some really good characters and twists in this movie. Yes there's violence, but no more than most movies. but this is a pretty decent movie. You have a feeling of dark ominous treachery up all the time, who is The lead actor is very good, as are the cast. Worth a watch.

A Great cult movie. As a fan of dystopian Sci Fi, this has an instant adrenaline kick start and real claustrophobic tension building. The impetuous of the disaster means you don't get a 70's disaster movie with slow character build up.. instead you have to deal with them as if it were real and the few crew remaining are thrown into this. Also a great comment on the unknown frontier of the sea. Enjoy.

What an amazing film and piece of art. Joaquin played the role perfectly, absorbing the viewer into his dark world, his enlightenment and eventual breakdown. Beautifully filmed, with an enchanting amazing soundtrack too.
