The perfect balance
31 May 2019
I loved this series, I can't wait for the next one! Tuca and Bertie has the perfect blend of dealing with real world issues and humour. It's light hearted and fun, yet serious when it needs to be. The main characters are funny and relatable. The animation is so unique. Adult animation can often be lazy, but it's not the case with Tuca and Bertie. A truly eye catching show!! Bring us more!

Delightful
22 April 2019
I love this, as a fan of the moomins, I find this version such a lovely addition. I grew up with the anime and I find this version so pleasant. The visuals are stunning, the feeling you get from this tv show is the same you get when reading the original comics. I love the voice cast, I have been so used to the voice cast of the anime, but I think this might be the best cast version!

Stunning Movie
7 January 2019
Wow! What a film! I have to say that this is the most visually stunning animated movie I have ever seen, I have never seen anything quite like it. The pacing is just right, it is a near 2 hour movie but does not feel like it. The voice talent is fantastic, the animation is brilliant and the story is well constructed. Made the whole cinema laugh out loud!

I really hope that Sony can continue to make movies like this, rather than the atrocity that was the Emoji Movie

Worth a watch, but you may get angry
19 September 2018
I am not from the US, I don't like in a country where abortion is much of a debate. It's crazy to see a country which boasts about personal freedoms is determined to remove reproduction freedoms from women. It made me angry that the anti-choicers just ignored why abortion became legal in the first place. It was a hard watch, but very interesting. I wanted to shout through the screen

Unsettling
16 August 2018
This movie is probably one of the best from 2018. It won't be to everyone's taste but it is well worth a watch. The concept is original and the design and execution is fantastic. The soundtrack, acting and editing all add to the atmosphere. It is really quite unsettling at times, the fear of this great unknown. To some viewers the movie would feel slow and dull, but imo the pacing was just right. There were also a couple of genuinely quite scary moments!

It's a great independent movie to watch

Great Idea
9 August 2018
I love the idea that there are 3 mums who are in a life of crime. They are doing it for their families. However, I find that there are sometimes unrealistic lack of consequences, they steal things and rob but nothing really comes of it. They seem to get away with basically everything. And some times they make really stupid mistakes (lookin' at you, Beth). That being said, it is wonderfully entertaining. The main 3 characters are likeable and funny in their own ways, and I find myself rooting for them even though I really shouldn't because they are literally criminals.

Loved this movie until the end
9 August 2018
I thought this movie had such a good premise, and really good execution. The performances throughout the movie were brilliant, the design, cinematography, editing were all fantastic. But the ending ruined it for me, it turned the movie into something it didn't need to be. I won't spoil it as you can make up your own mind, but it left me wondering why it even happened. Overall though, the film is something that the sci-fi genre needed, an alien movie based on intelligence, not shooting them up. It is worth a watch.

Such a let down
9 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is such a let down, I have never read the comics that it is based off but I think fans would be hugely disappointed. The opening sequence is probably the best in the whole film, the effects are amazing, I love the design of the Mul, the landscape, the creatures, the event etc. But then it all goes down hill from there. I could tell the film was trying to use it's effects to bring people in. It would have worked back in 2009 but not today when CGI isn't new or *that* exciting anymore.

Valerian is a bit of a Gary Stu, he boats about his achievements, but throughout the film is shown to be incompetent, lazy, and ignorant. I hate this character. Laureline is so bland there's nothing really to say about her. The interesting characters come and go so fast, we never learn more about them or why we should care about them. Like Bubble, her story seemed so interesting, but it was over so fast.

The main actor and actress in this film are pretty bad, and I never really comment on performance but this time I had to. Valerian sounded like he was making his voice deeper to sound more manly, Laureline had 0 emotion. Her entire performance can be summed up with the :/ emoticon. Even when Valerian is in life threatening situations she doesn't seem too bothered about it.

To say that he wants to marry her (says this repeatedly) there is 0 chemistry between the two. They fight more than they show emotion towards each other. Rhianna's performance was probably the best in the whole movie, it is a shame we didn't learn more about her character. The main focus was on Valerian and Laureline (well he is the title Character) but I feel more time should have been devoted to the story of Mul and it's people. There were some cool concepts, like the market in another dimension, but on the whole it was poorly executed and badly acted.

A Fun Movie
7 June 2018
The Greatest Showman is a fun movie to watch. It's a feel good movie that it suitable for the family to watch. The soundtrack is great, the cast is talented and it's pleasing to the eyes. However, it does bother me that unlike a lot of musicals set in the past, the music does not fit the era. The choreography and the music is not something you would see in the late 1800s. The film itself is strictly ok, a bit too fast paced in places so we don't get to see much character development, the plot is standard and entirely predictable. A bit lacklustre. It's not Oscar worthy but it is a really enjoyable film, a total guilty pleasure. This is a great film to watch after a bad day!

Peter Rabbit (2018)

Kids will love it
26 March 2018
I saw this with my nephew who is 3. He and the other children seemed to really enjoy it. There are plenty of laughs to be had from the adults too! It's a fine kids movie, nothing too frightening for them and plenty of slapstick humour. There are also some hand drawn watercolour sequences which were beautiful, I just wish the whole movie was like that! However, I don't think this is very 'Peter Rabbit' like. I don't think they captured his personality at all. It has (most) of the characters but none of the charm, which is a shame.

Charming for both adults and children
10 January 2018
Paddington 2 has to be the best sequel for a family friendly movie, ever. The story is so charming and funny yet also simple. Hugh Grant is brilliant as the main villain and plays the role perfectly. I have never seen a children's movie in the cinema where all the children were quiet and entertained for the full hour and a half. There are funny, laugh out loud moments, and an ending that will warm your heart. The post credit sequence is worth staying around for! It's not only kids that will enjoy this movie, it's a great film for all the family.

The Good Place (2016–2020)

So Refreshing!
30 November 2017
I discovered this series on Netflix and I was sceptical at first. It's from the mind of the wonderful Michael Schur who produced shows such as Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine Nine and The Office (USA). I've found that his comedies are so great in that they don't use too much crude humour which most adult-orientated comedies seem to do nowadays. Not to say that I don't like crude humour, it's that it gets boring quickly and relies on shock factor rather than actual witty dialogue.

The Good Place, however, is nothing like I have seen. It's a very upbeat show to say that most of the characters are dead. The acting is wonderful, the pacing is very good as they are 25-30 minute episodes, the colour schemes are very pleasant to look at. This is one of those shows you can watch when you're feeling down. There are some twists and turns you just don't expect!

Creepy!
11 September 2017
I think this is one of the best horror movies that has been made in a long time. I must admit I haven't read the book so I can't compare but as a movie it works very well. The young actors are brilliant and the writers gave them a script so they actually sound like how kids hanging out with their friends would talk. Plot is well driven and runs very smoothly, doesn't feel like things are happening too fast or slow. There are plenty of creepy moments! Personally though, I feel as if it wasn't scary enough. I think that they overused Pennywise so he lost his scariness as he kept appearing every few moments. Great monster horror movies give you a little bit of the monster each time (think Alien or Jaws). I think they could have used the music a bit more to create suspense. Also I don't think they wrapped up the ending (which I won't spoil) enough, personally.

Other than that the film was funny, well produced and had a great cast and I'm sure it will scare audiences!

Stick To The First One!
11 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Man, I was really looking forward to this movie. I loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy. This however, was kinda boring. The producers looked at what worked in the first Guardians of the Galaxy and said "hey we'll do that again" without actually thinking *why* it worked. An example is the soundtrack, usually the songs on the tape would be playing for the characters in the movie; when Peter is in the hospital, when he's on that abandoned planet, when he's dancing with Gamora etc. However in GOTG2 the 70/80s music just plays for the sake of it and selling more soundtracks.

The 80s references felt misplaced and forced, the pac man reference at the end made me cringe. The CGI looked really bad, I mean, *really* bad. It felt like there were hardly any sets and the team just said "we'll just CGI the whole thing". If it looks bad now the film is not going to age well at all.

I did think that it was a funny movie, though. The humour has carried on from the first movie and it did make me laugh out loud. The main characters are written really well even though there's quite a few of them to fit on screen in 2 hours.

The plot could have been better, I felt like it was pointless really. I would have preferred if there was a movie of guardians just going around the universe being The Guardians of the Galaxy. this is just Peter and his dad issues.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Brilliant
16 August 2017
I love this movie. I have been a fan of Wonder Woman for some time and this film really does her justice. She has been around for 75 years and finally in 2017 she gets her own film! The pacing is great, the music is great, the actors are great, the colour schemes are great. I came out of the cinema so happy at how this film had portrayed Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot is a a perfect casting choice and Chris Pine is great as Steve Trevor. The WWI setting I found really interesting and unique for a superhero movie, it worked really well. Patty Jenkins did an excellent job!!! I thought some of the CGI could use a touch up and there could be less slow motion, but apart from that it's a wonderful film.

Just watch The Lego Movie
16 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I would give 0 stars if I could. This movie is down right *dire*. I think the script was written by a 8 year old. I don't even think kids would enjoy this movie, hell, I think it's an insult to kids and kids movies. I am not sure why the people at Sony OK'd this movie. Why on Earth did you do that, Sony. Why.

The entire movie (excluding the short at the beginning and the credits) is only about 78 minutes long. It's not even feature length. The Hotel Transylvania short at the beginning was funnier than this whole movie.

Gene is an emoji which has many emotions, he is a glitch basically, and the smiley emoji isn't happy that he made the wrong face when Alex (the phone's user) selected him. Alex is sad because he doesn't know how to talk to the girl he likes. Even though he has her phone number. So Gene (why he is given a name yet 90% of the other emojis don't have a name I have no idea) decides to see Jailbreak, a hacker which can make him just feel "meh". She will help him get to the cloud where she can be free and she can turn him into meh. Hi Five tags along for some reason. To get to The Cloud they have to get to DropBox™. Not kidding. But before that they look at Facebook™, Instagram™, YouTube™ and Candycrush™. They spend 7 minutes playing Cnadycrush. And another 5 minutes playing Just Dance™. I wish I was making this up but I'm not. Hi 5 gets deleted with the Just Dance™™™™ App and ends up in the trash. Gene wants to save him.

Spoiler alert, Jailbreak is the princess emoji. She and Gene carry on and go to Spotify™™™™ and ride the music waves. Then they get to Dropbox after being chased by malware the smiley emoji sent out. But don't worry, Jailbreak told us that Dropbox™™™™ is secure!!! They upload to the cloud and fly on the twitter™™™™™ bird to save High 5 and then they all dance at the end and everyone in the audience loses their will to live.

Not a good start, but could get better
16 August 2017
I will start off by saying this series has an interesting premise, but the execution is not all that great. Jason Momoa plays a fantastic character but in the first couple of episodes we don't really see much of him which is a shame. Personally, there are too many characters and smaller plot points too early, this series doesn't seem to be able to pull it off like Game of Thrones does. With all of these characters, there is very little character development and little reason why we should care what happens to them. On top of all that, a lot of the accents are very..interesting to say the least. I hope that it does improve in the next season, as I think this could be a great show.

Really Boring
6 June 2017
I will start by saying that I am a fan of the Harry Potter series, but the charm and magic from the original books and movies doesn't appear in this film. I thought it was boring. I thought (from the title) that it would be Newt looking for fantastic beasts, you know, like the title suggests. Nope. There's another pointless plot line to the movie. I did like the characters for the most part. Jacob is a likable character and adds some comedy to the movie. It was nice to see some of the creatures mentioned in the books but the CGI was way off. This was a big budget film and the CGI looks like it's from 10+ years ago in some parts. I think the American 1920s setting doesn't really help as it makes this seem really far away from the Harry Potter series. I felt like it's running time was half an hour too long, which was a shame, I couldn't wait for it to be over as the plot was predictable. The characters actually in the main plot points I didn't really care about. Also I really struggle to understand Eddie Redmayne, he tends to mumble a lot! Over all I thought it was very dull, even the colour scheme was dull.

The Expanse (2015–2022)

Pleasantly Surprised
20 April 2017
I started watching this on Netflix, I didn't know anything about it and I was pleasantly surprised. I love sci-fi and the mystery element really works well with the series. I thought it was slightly confusing at first because there are quite a few main characters thrown in straight away but it doesn't take long to figure them out and get back into the story. I also really liked how this version of the future was presented, with incredibly stark contrasts between The Belt and Earth. The Expanse has a very interesting plot that keeps you engaged, the costumes and sets are really well designed. (My only issue is that they have see-through phones, why on Earth people think we'll have see through phones in the future is beyond me, why would you want everyone to be able to see what you're reading/looking at? It's a sci-fi pet peeve of mine) Even though there are quite a few main characters, the episodes don't seem rushed. We don't know much about them but we know enough to keep the plot going.

It's definitely worth a watch!

Good, But A Little Annoying
19 April 2017
I'm a fan of the original release, the cast were quick, witty and hilarious (Space Mutiny being my absolute favourite). The 2017 version has been updated, but the much loved corny effects and movies are still there with more modern references. However, I find that there seems to be *too* much going on during the movie. The cast seem to jump in with a joke just slightly before it happens and they seem to comment on everything and anything. I know that MST3K has always been scripted, but the original felt like it was just some friends watching a movie, the jokes felt (mostly) natural and spontaneous. The new one, not so much. There are whole chunks of jokes and talking at times and it's a little off putting personally. I've also noticed that the little silhouette at the bottom seems to be slightly smaller than in the original series! However, the B movies are just as terrible, the actors and robots are funny, which is all you really need for MST3K, I'm sure it'll please new and old viewers alike.

A Bit Disappointing
27 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film a lot more than I thought I would! However, there are a lot of problems. I did like how it gave us more detail into the curse. It also added more to the curse, how when each petal falls the castle starts to crumble and the staff become more and more less human. It really added to their desperation. I loved the piano and the wardrobe characters. It was also nice to see some diversity!!

The costumes were fantastic, apart from the yellow dress. I was so disappointed. The girls at conventions can make an exact copy, why can't Disney with a budget of millions? It did not need a 2 hour run time, the parts about Belle's mother could have been cut out. It was nice to know but it added 0 to the story. The best character was Gaston played by Luke Evans. I thought he was fantastic! He really brought the character to life. The Beast wasn't right imo. I didn't really feel anything towards him, in the cartoon the audience can see straight away that he feels guilty about having kept Belle from saying goodbye to her father, he gives her the library etc.You really see his sweet side. However in the live action remake we don't see this, he doesn't give her the library as a gift he just short of shrugs and says something along the lines of "you can't have it if you want whatever". There isn't any reason for Belle to fall in love with him. The songs are great and creative, especially Be Our Guest, but the new added songs are dull and forgettable. The magic book was so pointless, it added nothing to the story, in fact it created a small problem. When Belle sees her father in the magic mirror, she runs off on the horse, but if the Beast had the book which could take them anywhere, why would she run all the way home? At least if she did that we wouldn't have to sit through the Beat's song. I was disappointed with the dance scene, there is a great part in the original where the "camera" pans down from the chandelier and ends up on the floor as the dance past, for an animated film it is such an achievement and it's a wonderful scene; I was disappointed that they didn't include that famous shot. Again the dress was a let down.

I think the cast was great and all the voice actors did a great job! Apart from Emma Watson, her face was dull, she had a really fake smile during Be Our Guest which was a shame because Belle is really into the routine in the cartoon. Also, when Beast transforms back into the Prince, she's just stood watching with a face like Kirsten Stewart, she's not really in awe or surprised that this is happening right in front of her eyes. The cartoon is so bright and vibrant, it's a wonder to watch. This however, the colour palette was great for the first 20 minutes, but it was really dull for the rest of the movie, which I know they wanted to make a "darker" version but I don't think it really worked in this case.

Conclusion: It was OK - but the original cartoon is much better.
