The Accountant (2016)
Hollywood and Ben Affleck did not fail this time.
Ben Affleck, for some he did not even deserve that Oscar, but if you have some, actually, just little doubts about his acting then watch this. If you enjoy every second of watching an actor performing incredibly and can not stop yourself from smiling whenever you see his acting and admire it then yes, this is your movie. Incredible. Was not expecting it to be this good. I was slightly doubting the movie on the way even though I have seen the 7.8 rating on IMDb. But, it is really worth watching. It has a very good plot, and introduces you with the characters properly and professionally. You feel emotional and close to the characters. Even though, Ben Affleck's and Anna Kendrick's character did not end up together. (which was a nice blow to the stereotypical ending of every Hollywood movie and a nice way of this movie showing this is not an ordinary one) I would say, Hollywood and Ben Affleck did not fail this time, even though they did recently, they succeeded this time. I would say this is one of the best movies I have watched in the last couple of months.
Jurassic World (2015)
A film that is supposed to be in 21st Century, but in 20th Century.
I do not get it. OK, I would like this movie better if I was 8 and it was the year 1999. Come on. The whole movie is full of logical mistakes and I am not talking about the dinosaurs, I am talking about the plot itself. The big problem that is possible to see in almost all Hollywood movies in the last 10 years. That is why I prefer European Art Cinema. I mean, I normally can take it when the mistakes are small, but in this one, oh boy no way. I can not stand it. I just can not. Two main problems, Idiotic plot and unnecessary details. I would say the only good thing about this movie is Mr. Pratt's acting. But again, the way characters interact, the following of the plot, it is just, so amateur, this kind of stuff happened in 90's or early 2000's. Come on it is fricking 2015. I believe CGI and some good acting and roots of this movie got it a 7.0 on IMDb. But it should not have. This is 5.0 even when you try to be very optimistic about it.
Now You See Me 2 (2016)
What were they thinking?
What should be expected from this movie? I believe that is the most important question before watching these kind of movies. It obviously will not take you and challenge your brain to understand what is happening. The plot is much simpler in a comparison with the prequel. When the plot is much simpler, that also means this movie will not appeal to the group of people it supposed to appeal. You know what that means? Drumroll please... It means you will lose $30.000.000. I mean, what were they trying to do? Were they trying to make people laugh? If that was it, why did not they just put Jesses Eisenberg in a room with that poor interviewer girl again. That way, they would not spend $90.000.000 for a dead project. Come on people. Hollywood may have done this just to keep the tradition of butchering decent movies by making terrible sequels. That would explain it. But, there is one good thing about the movie, the acting, at the beginning of the movie by the young Dylan, that was incredible, just incredible.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
Book was excellent Tim Burton made it great!
When you think about the subject of the book, you should give it to Ransom Riggs, just think about it taking something horrible in the history that will never be forgotten and turning into something that people would watch with enjoyment not with fear. The books were exceptional, the movie was not excellent but it was great. Producers did not dare to make it more than one movie, how could they know if it was going to be as great as the books, they were right too, if it would be two movies, it would not be as popular as the first one. The concept of the book is hard to portray on mise en scène. Tim Burton had to change a lot of things in order to adapt it to the silver screen. There were some logical mistakes in the movie, I am aware the world itself is fiction anyway but some mistakes could be corrected in the supervision of Tim Burton. The fact that, hollows took the eyes of the peculiars just did not succeed. It failed. That was not even in the books anyway, do not know why he tried to do that. That adjustment dragged the quality of the movie. I will not get into the details how it had failed, if you watch the movie carefully, you will see the mistakes I am talking about. But mistakes did not entirely made the movie bad, they were small mistakes that is why I called it great. Eva Green tried hard, and she performed just fine. But if to tell the truth, it is very hard to pull off a woman character act who smokes pipe and be very lively at the same time, it was possible to see some incompatibility in that manner for Miss Peregrine's role. Asa Butterfield, was himself again that kid who can not adapt to the story of the current set, but has great potential in some other context. He was good, he did not have any incompatibilities. That is what he has been doing for a long time so he was just fine. Other than that, Samuel Jackson was a bit too much to the overall acting of the movie, similar to Asa Butterfield, he was just himself, he was great and he has way too much experience, that is his difference when compared to Asa in that manner. The man is number one at being the bad character. The movie was great, but it had far more potential, but it is a question, if you would be able to do a better job in 2 hours, probably not.
Laid in America (2016)
Not that bad
It was not as bad as I thought it would be. There are some funny moments. KSI was behaving and acting the exact way he does in his channel. Absurd laughter and swearing. That is pretty much him. But Caspar, I do not think anybody gets close with the Caspar's character. It was a very bizarre performance. He was about the cry in every scene. He just did not belong to the movie. He could have done better. Even though it was a performance of stereotype, 'Tucker' did a good job. I do not think there were some exceptional acting or plot. The only thing keeps the plot going is the fact that these two main characters are virgins. When you think about the target group of viewers maybe it is not that bad of an idea to attract teenagers.
The Magnificent Seven (2016)
A nice modern western
Even though the plot is simple, people who made the movie needed to a remake the version of 1960, which is an interesting point to consider. In the whole history of Western Genre, which had dived in to the pages of film history starting from 1930's, I have not seen a character like Chris Pratt. OK, when you consider the factor of modern day audience, maybe they had to make Chris Pratt perform this role. This movie would not make it to anywhere with the conventional features of the Western Genre today. Chris Pratt was needed in that manner, you need the funny guy if you want your movie to be watched and make money. That is a way of looking at it from the creators point of view. (!!!Spoiler!!!) Maybe that is why, we also witnessed a bizarre ending. Modern day applications. Because in the Western Genre, there has to be a reason, characters do not risk their lives for money, that happens in the Gangster Genre, and believe me Chris Pratt would play a very good mafia role, so good that, people would have make his pictures their wallpapers in his mafia costume. But that is not the case in this movie neither in this genre. The topic is, this movie is not exactly Western. The most important thing, revenge is in the movie, yes, but you can not feel it when there is a funny guy and a fat guy making weird stuff to make people laugh. More than half of the characters do not belong to the movie. They do not want to take revenge. There are only two people who wants to take revenge, Denzel Washington with a spectacular performance. He could have perform easily in the best Western movies in the history of the genre. He clearly has an aim, he wants revenge. You can see that. Also, Emma, obviously wants to take revenge and she fits in to the story as a woman which is a bit unusual. ( Please do not take this comment wrong, but in the history of the genre, women do not exactly play a big role, I am not trying to make a sexist comment) I guess this is one of the good sides of the modern day Western. Overall, despite the big flows on the story, it is worth seeing.
