Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu (2016)
Excellent Debutante Director
An excellent debut by Hemanth Rao. He has succeeded in blending art cinema and commercial cinema. While the movie seems to move slowly at times, it does not make one lose interest. Anant Nag in his role as an Alzheimer patient is simply stunning. Rakshit Shetty and Shruti Hariharan emote really well. Vasishta Simha and Ravikiran Rajendran are surprise gifts of this movie. Achyuth Kumar's entry marks the twist in the plot. What makes the movie really click is that unlike other Indian musicals, the main characters do not burst into songs and dances to convey their feelings. This brings the movie nearer to real life. Dialogues are very natural. The music is very apt and is only used in the background to suit the mood on-screen. Some scenes are capable of moving the audience to tears but it is only because of their nostalgia piqued by subtle acting and not any ostentatious attempts at dramatic acting. Some of Anant's dialogues make audience burst into laughter.
